Why do the healers die first?

Summary:

EPIC x Percy Jackson
The gods are demigods and they are in the scene of Polyphemus and Survive from the Cyclops Saga

A healer is an important part of the team, without one, everyone would be in danger with no one to treat wounds. Enemies target healers because attacking the warriors would be useless if they could just be healed. Artemis knew this, but what Artemis didn't know was that her brother would be in such danger.

Artemis

A healer is an important part of the team, without one, everyone would be in danger with no one to treat wounds. Enemies target healers because attacking the warriors would be useless if they could just be healed. Artemis knew this, but what Artemis didn't know was that her brother would be in such danger.

Me and Apollo lead our crew to a cave that was filled with sheep, Apollo was the one that convinced the Lotus Eaters to tell us but I was still a bit wary. I shot a sheep with my bow and arrow that Apollo mad me when we were younger.

My second in command (Athena) praised us for finding this cave that would be able to feed the whole fleet. I expressed my concerns of it being too good to be true because it's true, why would the Lotus Eaters not have already eaten the sheep when they know about this cave.

Just as I finished expressing my concerns, I could tell Athena wanted to add on to the conversation. We were interrupted by a deep voice saying "Who are you?"

We froze, I turned and saw a massive Cyclops that I recognized from myths as being Polyphemus. I quickly explained "Hey! We're just travelers, we come in peace." though I doubt he would let us go without a fight.

"You killed my sheep, my favorite sheep." I felt my face drain of color. "What gives you the right to deal a pain so deep?" he asked." Don't you know pain you sow is pain you reap? " he stated

He started talking about pain and suffering an how we are in danger." There's been a misunderstanding, we never came he to steal. Though now that I see we've done some damage maybe you and I can make a deal." I said

"We'll give you our finest treasure,so long as we can leave alive.  A wine so fresh you'd never want to eat human flesh again. " I said while gesturing to Dionysus

"Wine? " he asked."Have a drink, one sip and you'll understand, the power that's in your hands. A trade you see? A gift from you and a gift from me. " I explained

He drank the wine we gave him, I hoped he would spare us. "I'd like to thank you, stranger what's your name?" he asked

Athena looked at me, expecting me to do the right thing. "My name is Nobody." I said and Athena looked satisfied. "Nobody, for your gift I'd like to thank you." he started. "Im so glad we see eye to eye." I said. "Yes, you shall be the final man to die." he said. "What.." I said before screaming "WATCH OUT!"

I turned to our crew and said" My siblings, the rest of our crew waits at the beach and if we're defeated they're as good as dead, that is who were fighting."

"No backup, no chance for support. So draw out your swords our foe must be thwarted right here and now. "

"600 lives at stake, it's just on life to take, and when we kill him then our journeys over. " Some of our crew shouted." No dying on me now, defeat is not allowed! We must live through this day so fight fight fight! " I shouted

We charged at Polyphemus and I could hear Ares shout a battle cry. Apollo stayed relatively at the back, shooting arrows at him because no one was hurt yet. He shot arrow after arrow cleanly and precisely. I always loved how he could be optimistic even in war and boost the morale of our crew. I really wondered how we would've made it this far without Apollo.

I told the crew about his weakness of being slow and using his weight against him and the fact we are way more agile than him. Athena shouted orders and strategies while throwing her spear at him.

"Push forward!" I shouted while I drew my bow and shot an arrow. Apollo was healing the warriors injured and occasionally shooting arrows. He helped up comrades who fell and was occasionally shouting encouraging words, boosting morale.

We fought and fought. Apollo was healing a comrade and I saw Polyphemus pick up something and look a certain way. I looked the direction he was facing and I could practically hear the gears turning in his head though I didn't know what it was about. I looked too late and could only see Polyphemus holding a club and already in the process of crushing someone. I realized that the person had golden hair and tan skin before the realization dawned at me that Polyphemus was about to crush Apollo. My Apollo, the one who was with me through everything.

"LOOK OUT!" I shouted but I knew I was already too late. Apollo looked backwards but he just saw a club crushing him to his death. "Artemis..." he said before dropping to the ground, dropping his medical supplies and golden bow. Apollo's golden bow, the one I made for him. I froze and I heard Polyphemus say something like "Enough."

"Hes got a club!" Iris shouted before being crushed. "What are our orders? Artemis, ARTEMIS." said Hebe before meeting a fate similar to Iris. I wanted to shout out clever orders but I was too frozen. Polyphemus just killed my brother, Apollo. The Apollo that has a smile that lights up every room, The Apollo that has an infectious laugh. My Apollo.

I heard Polyphemus say something about the lines of" You've hurt me enough
Six hundred lives I'll take, six hundred lives I'll break. You're dying here and now, escape is not allowed, And when I kill you, then my pain is over. You won't live through this day, now die. " before I heard a loud thud and I remembered that I gestured for Dionysus to add Lotus in his wine just in case. Thinking about it just made things worse because Apollo was the one who brought the Lotus.
