Dave rested his head on Cassidy's shoulder, who laid her own head against his. They both stared off at the TV. Cassidy had the remote in her hands, mindlessly surfing through different channels.
"That was an awful movie," she said quietly, chuckling.
"Mhm…but it was fun," Dave murmured against her shoulder.
Cassidy nodded. "Yeah, it was.."
It was getting late, and Dave had come over to Cassidy's house hours ago. The two of them wondered if this counted as a date, but they didn't actually call it that—at least not to each other's faces.
They ate together, watched countless movies…now, they were just enjoying the other's company.
Cassidy turned her head to look outside her window, one arm wrapping around Dave to keep him close. He would usually jump at such touch—but not with her. She saw how dark it was outside, and admired the stars before speaking again.
"Hey, Davie…" she said softly.
"Huh?"
"What time do you have to be home by?"
Dave sat up, trying to match her tone. Her arm slid down his back, and they scooted to sit facing each other.
"Oh, uhm…my Dad said to be home by 11."
Cassidy looked at him with wide eyes. 11? She smiled.
"Okay…we still have some time left. I was kinda scared you'd get bored and leave me," she said half-jokingly, looking off to the side.
He cupped her chin gently with his fingers, turning her head to look at him again.
"What? I'd never do that, Cassie, come on.."
Cassidy blushed softly at his touch, smiling.
"Yeah, I know…" she said, swiping his hand away then holding it in her own. "You've been like, very touchy today, you know that?"
Dave blushed hard, his hand tightening in hers. "Uh…ah, well…"
She giggled, her other hand ruffling his hair. "I'm joking…I'm joking." Her voice was soft and welcoming, a tone she really only ever had towards him, and him only. Something about him just made her feel…safe, to be herself.
She placed her other hand in his, and they held hands silently for a moment, lost in the other's eyes.
"Cassie…this is totally a date, though, right?"
She was slightly taken aback, but then she smiled knowingly. Usually he'd never go and say something like that out of nowhere. He seemed to gain a certain level of confidence when he was around her, and she liked it.
"O-of course it is, silly…" she cleared her throat, "very brave of you to actually say it.."
"I-I mean…I'm not stupid, it's obviously…" He paused for a second, then spoke again. "Were you scared to say that it was a date?"
Cassidy paused, flustered. "I wasn't scared!..I just wanted you to say it, that's all."
"Huh..I guess.."
They'd been scooting close to each other the whole time, and their bodies were awfully close by now. Dave was slouching less than usual, to meet her at eye level. He could feel her breath against his skin, and she could feel his.
Something about the way Dave looked at her was driving Cassidy insane. His head was slightly tilted forwards, and he looked like he was sweating a little. Was he…nervous? Was he thinking the same thing as her? Every muscle in her body told her to go for it, but she didn't know. She wasn't sure.
Meanwhile, Dave was completely helpless, and all he could do was stare at the pretty girl sitting in front of him. She was a flirt, everyone knew that. But he really felt like they had something special, even if he had no idea what that was. I mean, she had practically asked him out on a date to her house. That had to mean something, right?
Suddenly, Dave spoke in a low, whispered tone. He only said one word, and it was all that he needed to say.
"…Cassidy.."
She replied quickly in a hushed tone.
"…David.."
She leaned in slowly, and he leaned in just as slowly. And that was enough, as Cassidy quickly closed the distance and pressed her lips on his. She did it as gently as possible, trying to contain her excitement—but it was an excited kiss nonetheless. He leaned into it, enjoying the fleeting moment that they had both fantasized about for so long.
They both pulled back quickly, staring into each other's eyes. Neither of them knew what to say, or do…so instead, they just smiled at each other.
They leaned in again, sharing a slower, gentler kiss. Their mouths moved in unison, savoring it as much as possible. They broke the kiss, their faces mere inches apart.
Their breaths were in sync, and both of them were afraid to speak. The silence was actually comforting, like they knew what the other was thinking, and there was no need for words. Their hands found their way to each other's, and they held on tightly.
Eventually, Cassidy let out a small chuckle, her finger trailing across one of Dave's hands.
He chuckled back in response. "..what?" He asked quietly.
"Nothing…I just wanted to do that…for a really long time now." She smiled, looking down.
Dave held her hands tighter. "…me too, Cassie."
She looked up to see him smiling back at her, and she couldn't help but lean in and wrap her arms around him. He wrapped his arms back around her, and they stayed in that position for a while.
Eventually, they pulled back, smiling at each other.
Dave spoke softly. "So do…does that make us…are we, you know…"
Cassidy couldn't help but let out a small laugh at his innocent question. "…You haven't asked me yet."
Dave smiled in embarrassment, blushing hard. "Ugh…I…okay…"
They prepared themselves, looking deeply into each other's eyes.
Dave took a deep breath.
"…I really, really like you, Cassidy."
"..I really like you too, Dave."
They couldn't help but smile, and Dave continued.
"…do you want to be my girlfriend?"
Cassidy smiled happily.
"Yeah." She giggled. "Of course I want to."
Dave giggled as well, and they hugged each other tightly again.
"…I'm so happy.."
"…me too…"
"So, so happy…"
They shared another kiss—a long, romantic kiss. Dave placed his hands on Cassidy's waist, and she placed her hands on his neck. Their lips moved together, slowly and carefully and lovingly.
