What if home isn't the place where you were born? What if home is a place you need to learn and discover for yourself?

The misty evening air was cool on their skin. He leaned down to brush his fingers against the grass. The dewey grass was soft and prickly under his fingers. She felt like he could breathe in the mystical air forever.
The smell of roasting marshmallows took them back to those late nights with his friends, looking up at the stars, not a care in the world. The northern lights were beautiful. They had laughed over how the blanket wasn't big enough for the three of them. Her friend's arm on their shoulder, resting his head on theirs, felt like home. It was then, he knew, this was their true family.
The bark was rough against his outstretched hand. The night felt so peaceful, like the wilderness was trying to comfort them. She looked up at the twilight, admiring the way the sky outlined the darker leaves. The constellations were beautiful tonight. How they longed to climb high, and look out at the world below. As he gazed out into the night, in limbo between here and there, he realized, she never wanted to go back. This was the first time in a long time they could breathe easy without worrying about that. They were leaving it behind, and starting a new chapter. With a deep breath, they took a decisive step towards their new home.
