Kiryu leaned against the window of the car as yellow house lights and streetlamps blurred past his vision. Everyone was uncharacteristically quiet except for Nirei giving a report on the fight they just went through to Umemiya in a hushed tone. The sounds of the car driving across the pavement left a hum that kept things from becoming silent after Nirei had finished his summary. Umemiya was driving everybody home due to how dark it had gotten and how tired they all were. Sakura seemed to be half asleep already, slumped back in his seat between Nirei and Suo. It was no surprise, with how long this fight had dragged on. The opposing gang seemed to have infinite members and even more reinforcements, leaving everybody unharmed but exhausted. Kiryu himself could feel the fatigue weighing him down in his seat, his muscles finally getting a chance to loosen.
To Kiryu's surprise, even Suo seemed burnt out. He wasn't making conversation with anybody or speaking much, be it out of his own weariness or consideration for everyone else. In the cramped car with four of them sharing a back row (Tsugeura took the passenger seat), Kiryu could feel Suo's knee pressed against his and was struggling (and failing) not to think about it much. He was also not focusing on the way Suo’s elbow brushed against his every time the car went over a bump or took a turn. What was fully impossible for Kiryu to not acknowledge though, was when Suo’s head gently fell onto his shoulder. He froze, forgetting to breathe for a second. Did Suo fall asleep? Kiryu could hear his heart racing, the sound flooding his ears and making it hard for him to stay outwardly calm. After a second of processing what had just happened, he started to breathe normally again. His heartbeat, while still racing, once again became background noise. He was extremely grateful for the dark atmosphere, which made his sudden and bright blush hard for anyone to notice.
His breath hitched.
Suo was asleep. On Kiryu. Not to mention in front of a lot of people. It was genuinely shocking how Suo had actually let his guard down, and was tired enough to fall asleep on Kiryu, and he felt honored. Did Suo really trust them all enough to fall asleep in their presence? Or did he just trust Kiryu that much? It was hard to believe that Suo was so tired that he couldn't help but fall asleep, since Kiryu was sure he'd been through more daunting fights without being as worn out.
As Suo showed no signs of stirring, he couldn't help but hyperfocus on every touching point between him and Suo. Their arms were fully against each other, and Kiryu was very aware of the weight of Suo leaning on him, and the way he could feel the warmth from Suo’s head on his shoulder. His body warmth seemed to be bleeding into Kiryu and spreading everywhere, because he felt warm all over.
After a few minutes of complete stillness, he had an idea. He carefully moved his arm that was against Suo with absolute delicacy, cheeks blazing once again while making sure not to wake him up. With as much delicacy as possible, he wrapped it around Suo’s back, resting it on his opposite arm. Their sides were now basically pressed against each other's, and his chest bursted at the way Suo seemed to breathe smoother, the rise and fall of his chest more peaceful. As Kiryu watched Suo, slightly flustered, he thought about how Suo had never looked so at peace before. His visible eyelid seemed perfectly still, his dark eyelashes and eyepatch contrasting with his soft skin. He wanted to memorize the way Suo looked, in this intimate and serene state. He wanted to be able to see this image of Suo every time he thought of him, to see his beautiful features and his calm resting face that Kiryu had been lucky enough to witness.
As he observed Suo, he noticed that there were some strands of hair falling across Suo's forehead, and Kiryu had to resist the urge to brush them to the sides. And maybe kiss his forehead. He almost chokes at the thought, and feels his cheeks heat up again. He had it worse than he thought. He quickly and subtly looked around, making sure nobody saw him and his embarrassing reaction. Sakura was fast asleep, and Nirei was soundlessly observing the world pass by out his window. However, when he looked to the front of the car, to Kiryu's panic, Umemiya was looking directly at him through the rearview mirror with a smile and a knowing look. Kiryu's eyes widened, and he awkwardly smiled, looking back out his own window while internally praying that his blush wasn't as apparent as it felt. After he mostly regained his composure, his attention, of course, turned back to the boy sleeping on him and he once again became all too aware of their positions beside each other. His mind looped over and over through thoughts of Suo and his current situation, unable to think or focus on anything else. As he sat there with the cozy warmth of Suo and the soothing sounds of his breathing, Kiryu grew tired. As he started to relax his muscles as much as he could without disturbing Suo, he tiredly watched Nirei and Tsugeura exit the car at their respective stops, saying their thanks and goodbyes to Umemiya. He hoped that they didn't look too close at Kiryu as they left, he was already embarrassed by himself as things were. As the car ride went on, presumably in the direction of Sakura’s home, Kiryu could feel his eyelids gradually growing heavier. He distantly wondered what would happen when Suo woke up and saw what had happened, but those thoughts were pushed to the back of his mind as he felt his head slowly lay against Suo’s, with Kiryu's cheek pressed into his soft hair comfortably. The last sounds he heard before dozing off were Suo’s soft breaths and the tires of the car against the road.

As Umemiya drove towards the final stops of Suo's and Kiryu's homes, he once again glanced at their sleeping forms through the rearview mirror and smiled at how they slept against each other, so content. He mourned that he would have to be the one to disturb such a nice moment and wake them up.
