Fearless

Summary:

And I don't know how it gets better than this
You take my hand and drag me head first
Fearless
And I don't know why
But with you I'd dance in a storm
In my best dress
Fearless

Work Text:

For two seasoned NASA astronauts who had been pining for each other for who knows how long and finally got their shit up, their first date went extremely well.

"Thank you for the dinner, Reid. It was lovely." Christina said as the two of them approached his car, his blazer around her shoulders after he put it on sometime during the night when it was getting chilly. Reid let out a soft chuckle as he glances over to the beautiful woman walking beside him, "Well, thank you for saying yes."

Their strides slowed down before completely stopping beneath a streetlight as they turned to face each other, drowning themselves in the other's gaze — ocean blues meeting hazel browns.

Reid broke the silence, "You're absolutely stunning in that green dress, have I told you that?" he pauses, taking in Christina's mesmerizing facial features and the emerald of her dress highlighted by the warm light of the post above them, "I'm still wondering how I got so damn lucky."

Christina felt heat rising to her cheeks, giggling to herself as she playfully bumps Reid's arm with her shoulder, "Look at you getting so cheeky, Wiseman." she pinches the bridge of her nose before smiling up at him, "And yes, you've already told me a million times since you picked me up earlier."

Reid shrugs, "I don't think I will ever get tired of telling you how much you take my breath away."

Christina jokingly smacks his bicep, "Reid, stop it—", but she was immediately cut off by the sudden downpour of rain; immediately soaking them.

"I think I trusted my weather app a little too much tonight." Reid blurted out. Christina replied with a soft snort, "And let me guess: you also don't have an umbrella with you?". Reid only nods.

Their eyes met in the midst of the unexpected rain that evening — gazes unwavering as they stare at each other.

Christina reached out first, her hand finding Reid's, "Since we're already drenched, why don't we take advantage of the rain?". Reid cocks his head to the side, "What do you have in mind?"

She inches closer until there was no space left between the two of them, and rested her head on his chest — her ear right where his heart is, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. She took her hand from Reid's and wraps her arms around his neck before gently guiding their bodies to sway back and forth; not long after, they are engaged in a slow dance.

Reid understands what she wants and places his hands on both sides of her waist — just holding her near him, "You want to dance?" he asked. "First time for everything, love." she replied.

So be it, he thought. If the love of my life wants to dance under the rain, I'll gladly take her lead.

"I love you, so much."  Reid said.

Christina smiled into his chest, "I love you, too."

And in that moment, their lives were complete — one end of a red string finally meeting the other.
