Strong, smoky waves billowed from your shoulder. It hurt, you felt it all too well. Perhaps placing your partner's hand on your shoulder to reassure him that you’d be there whenever the blond needed you hadn't been the best idea. It was bound to happen; you just hadn't (wanted to) notice the signs.
Katsuki had grown so frustrated with this relationship; he never considered himself a good boyfriend anyway. It wasn't as if you didn't remind him daily that he was wrong, so you had assumed everything was fine. His eyes widened, you pursed your lips as you felt your skin sting. The blond had never been that careless, but that didn't matter; you needed to tell him you were okay before things got worse. It was complicated — you were human, after all, and an explosion caused pain; of course it did.
The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the park where you used to spend countless nights in each other's arms after grueling training sessions at U.A. Air thick with tension; you sat on the bench, eyes fixed on the ground, tears silently streaming down your face. Katsuki stood before you, hands trembling, heart heavy. He didn't want to relieve it. He had turned back into a monster.
"Listen to me. Let's ending our relationship." Katsuki's voice wavered under the weight of his decision, yet he hadn't hesitated to speak his mind. He knew it was the right thing to do — at least for him.
You looked up, voice thick with emotion. "Katsuki, please... you aren't in the right state of mind. Don't do this, I love you." It was obviously a unilateral breakup, the kind of thing you would not want to face even if you were a corpse.
Katsuki glanced between your shoulder and your eyes. "[Name]... I can't do this anymore. I can't keep hurting you." His voice grew more strained with every word.
Your heart skipped a beat as the words sank in, your mind racing to grasp what he was saying. "Katsuki, I don't understand. We've been through so much together. We can get through this too, together!" you said, desperately trying to hold onto the relationship.
Katsuki shook his head. "No. Not this time. I've hurt you a lot, even if this is the first time it was physical, I never wanted this. I can't fucking stand seeing you suffer because of me." He had never been this sentimental, but hurting the person he loved felt awful; he hated people who did that, and now he had made that very same mistake.
Your breath caught in your throat as memories of the incident flooded your mind once again: the pain in your shoulder, the fear in Bakugo's eyes when he realized what he’d done.
"It was just an accident, Katsuki. I know you didn't mean to hurt me. Please, don't do this." Your voice trembled, tears welling up in your eyes.
Bakugo's voice nearly cracked as he spoke. "I wish it were just an accident, but it's more than that. I can't keep putting you in danger, you know that."
Your heart broke as you heard the truth in his words, realizing that their love might not be enough to fix what was broken. Tears began to stream down your face uncontrollably, yet you still forced yourself to speak: "But I believe in us, Katsuki. I believe in you; I can help you, just like I always have. Please, don't give up on us." You pleaded.
His palms were sweaty, resolve crumbling. "I don't know what to do. I'm afraid of what I might do to you if I stay. Don't you fucking understand? I can't bear to see you get hurt because of me." Perhaps, deep down, Katsuki had never truly been the right person for you.
Your vision blurred as you could already see the love of your life slipping through your fingers, the pain of losing him overwhelming you. "But I can't imagine my life without you," you whispered.
"I never wanted to hurt you. But I have to let you go. For your sake— No, for our sake." Katsuki's voice dropped to a mere whisper as well. "I’m the one who’s wrong in this relationship," he said, looking away. "You don't deserve this; it's the best thing to do." He stated, voice still filled with concern for you.
"What? You're really going to end it all? Why break up with me when you could just check on me to see if I'm okay instead?" You offered an alternative, clutching his right shoulder, the exact spot that hurt on you. "Please, Katsuki! I know you hurt me with your quirk, but don't leave! I need you in my life!" With those words hanging in the air like a heavy mist, Katsuki simply turned away, unable to confront the both broken hearts.
You lost the love of your life.
As Katsuki walked away, leaving you alone in the dim light, the world crumbled around you; the echoes of your love haunted you like a bittersweet melody. Had your childhood best friend — now ex-boyfriend — really done this? It's too much to process in such a short time. Katsuki had actually ended a relationship that had lasted nearly a year; you had never imagined such a thing could happen. Despite his complicated personality and volatile temper, you had loved him without a doubt. But now, knowing what the blond was like, you knew you would not be able to win him back.
You wept as you never had before. You truly had lost the love of your life. Nevertheless, was it really real? One thing was: Katsuki Bakugou couldn't love you. That had always been a risk; the whole thing had been a risk from the very start.
