Kleos
Summary:
A poem.
Do not plagiarize my work.
Notes:
(See the end of the work for notes.)
Work Text:
κλέος
He was born to tyrian purple,
Cast in golden light,
Promised that the stars would know him,
If he burned out in the night.
They offered him a quiet age,
A slow and fading flame,
But he chose the sharp, brilliant edge
Of a brief and heavy name.
Now the pyre has turned to ash,
The gold has lost its gleam,
Two names carved upon one stone,
Washed downward in the stream.
They traded all their tomorrow-years
To blaze across the sky,
And found that even the brightest stars
Must learn the way to die.
Notes:
It took so long to brainstorm and write this. I need more sleep.
Very loosely inspired by the story of Ἀχιλλεύς.
Writing a poem is the farthest thing from easy.
