Chapter Text
Caretaker, as much as she loved burying herself in the comfort of her bed, knew that they didn't have the time to do so. She is the busiest person in the building after all aside from the sheriffs. Caretaker, like the other "civilians", was chosen to be part of a research group by the government to investigate a number of cases. Those cases include a rogue tenacious "Pursuer" that's one of it's kind, a rogue defunct Killdroid on the loose, A suspicious and rather the persistent type of malware hacking computers all around this section of Robloxia, and a rogue Construct from another dimension currently on the loose. But the most important case of them all is the investigation of a massacre caused by a French Showman currently on the run. All those cases weighed heavily on Caretaker's mind all the time for a reason not even Caretaker themselves could explain.
Caretaker manages to finally get herself out of bed to start her morning routine because to her, maintaining a healthy routine is important. Their routine consists of plenty of things, such as washing her face with the often described too cold water, brushing her teeth and long, straight blond hair, making her bed, and getting dressed. Caretaker put on her signature white nurse's hat with an opaque veil covering the back and sides of her face and barely her shoulder, her white, one-piece scrub-dress that goes just past her knees with slightly loose and puffy sleeves (one sleeve has a nurse badge on it to show that she is a medic), The black utility belt with a few bottles of healing potions and bandages, and loose boots paired with puffy socks and a band with a green cross symbol on it on one leg above their sock. And like everybody else in the team, Caretaker wore LOTS of charms EVERYWHERE around her outfit. Sure, it looks (and is) uncomfortable, but it looks fantastic on them.
Caretaker immediately made her way downstairs from her room and into the medical center to get started on today's investigation. The entire room is divided into three smaller rooms and one care unit in the back connected to the entrance by a hallway. The first small room was Caretaker's office, the second was Carepad's office, and the last an extra storage room for the majority of the healing supplies. Caretaker opens Carepad's office door and is greeted by the usual friendly wave of Carepad.
Carepad always wore her white and green builder's club hat with green opaque veils the size of her head hiding up to her ears, which are covered by the very short, messy brown hair. She also wore her green vest with a white t-shirt with sleeves so long that Carepad had to roll them up all the time. She had her utility belt on and puffy green pants (pockets included) with the odd choice of sneakers to go with her fit. Carepad wore less charms then Caretaker and more green was prominent on her outfit.
"Geez Caretaker, you look way more exhausted than usual. Had trouble sleepin' last night?", Carepad remarked.
"Yup, as usual." Caretaker replied, realizing just how bad of sleep they have been getting recently. Yesterday night had been her worst sleep so far.
She and Carepad were coworkers, but more like really really really good friends. Carepad had been looking after Caretaker for a while after she became so indulged into her work and kept forgetting to take care of themselves a lot. Caretaker tried to convince Carepad that they were fine, but she didn't buy it.
"Got any new information of this Artful guy?", Caretaker asked Carepad.
"Nothin' new so far, but I completed the autopsy report like ten minutes ago!" She replied.
"Great, lemme see." Caretaker asked in the usual polite manner that they were accustomed to ever since they started medical school.
"Okieeeeee, gimmie a sec"
Carepad immediately snagged the computer mouse and after a few clicks revealed on the screen was the completed autopsy report. Caretaker read through the report rather quickly.
"So the injuries are usually centered around the head, some people have dents in their heads, possibly from a heavy projectile somehow thrown... -" Caretaker started.
"And most have broken bones and such, could imply that there was a LOT of panic at the scene. And with that, more injury and even more chaos." Carepad finished.
"Uh-Huh, and judging by the injuries, the majority are around the legs. So yeah, you're completely right." They noted.
The two pondered about their thoughts on the report for a few minutes until Caretaker broke the silence. Meanwhile, Carepad printed out two copies of the autopsy report.
"i'll talk to Sheriff about this, and also grab breakfast along the way. Do you want breakfast too?" Caretaker asked.
"Nah, ate already. Pie and Sweettooth were up early today. See ya later!!!" Carepad replied, her smile growing bigger.
"Alright. See you soon!" Caretaker said as they picked up a copy of the autopsy report from the printer wedges in-between the desk and a few columns of cabinets before excusing herself.
They headed out Carepad's office door and the entrance door and strode away to speak with Sheriff.
After turning left and walking some more, they make it to the Common Area of the building. The Common area is the largest space in the building and is divided into 4 sections. The first is the lounge, which has plenty of couches and sofas, a fireplace under a TV, and a massive carpet on the floor. The second section is the kitchen, which has a layout similar to a school cafeteria, with the actual kitchen being separated by a long table to display the food, the only connection there being the door to the right side of the table. The third section is the gaming setup, which is connected to the lounge area and has all the gaming materials needed plus a "mountain" of snacks and soft drinks. The last section, if you would call it one, is the entrance, with coat hangers, shelves for hats and scarfs, and bins for literally anything else. Caretaker waved at Taunt, Banana, and Hotdog who were playing video games. They then strode to the kitchen and waved to Pie, who just so happened to notice Caretaker coming towards the kitchen.
"Hi Caretaker! Ya hungry for anythin'?" Pie exclaimed, drawing Sweettooth's attention.
"I could use some Bacon or something. I am heading to the Sheriff's Office after this." They replied, enthusiastic.
"Comin' riggggghhhhhttttt up!"
A few minutes later, Caretaker's food had arrived. They grinned and said their heartfelt Thank You's before departing to the Sheriff's office.
The Sheriff's Office was actually outside next to the entrance. It was a particularly large shed for one. Caretaker knocked on the door before deciding that opening the door would be a much better way of getting attention. She entered the shed to find Loveshot scrolling on her phone and found themselves wondering where Revolver went.
"Helloooooooo mate!" Loveshot greeted Caretaker.
"Hi." Caretaker said back.
The Office was cluttered as usual, with a coat hanger next to the door, a shelf for scarves and hats, and two windows on the same Wallas the shelf and a smaller one next to that. On the right side was a desk where Loveshot usually sat and worked on whatever case she had. The desk has a computer that she and Revolver shared, a few coffee mugs either holding pens or empty, and of course, way too much paper scattered everywhere on the desk and the surrounding floor. On the floor were brown and pink carpets everywhere.
"I- uh- wanted to show you the autopsy report you asked for that Carepad finished this morning." Caretaker expressed, trying their hardest not to blush.
"oOoOO! Could I possibly read it now?" Loveshot asked.
They handed her the report, and as she read it, Caretaker couldn't help but look at what she wore today.
Loveshot was wearing her signature magenta cowboy hat with a feather attached to it and a lace rim, a matching magenta and purple jacket with a fuschia shirt underneath, a utility belt with a cloth attached to it, magenta flared pants with ruffles underneath, and cowboy boots hidden beneath the pants. She also wore a brown duffel bag, plenty of charms and bracelets, and visible bandages on her forearms and wrists. Her gold sheriff badge shimmered I the sunlight seeping from the window too.
After a few more minutes of reading, Loveshot handed Caretaker the report back.
"When Revolver comes back, you, me, him, Flashlight, and Carepad are going to the crime scene to get some evidence. M'kay?" Loveshot declared.
"Okay." Caretaker replied.
The two exchanged waves of farewells as Caretaker left to collect Carepad.
