Work Text:

Travis held the gun up to his head with his shaking hand. He was cold. Freezing even.

He was standing in the middle of a forest in winter. No gloves or scarf or anything but he didn't really care. He stood there for a few seconds just contemplating. Devin had left him. He had no friends, no family, no money. Nothing. He lost it all. He was done with all of this, he just wanted to be normal.

He started into the never ending landscape made up of trees covered in snow with the gun still raised to his head. His arm started to hurt.

He made up his mind.

He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath before whispering “Make me normal next time, god.” his finger was slowly pressing the trigger when suddenly.

“Travis?”

He recognized that voice all too well. His finger immediately let go of the trigger. He lowered the gun, a few seconds later he turned around to face the person he hadn't thought he would see again. There. Standing was Devin, looking at Travis with a horrified expression painted on his face. His eyes flicked between the gun and Travis's face.

They both stared at each other. Not moving a muscle until Devin spoke up. His voice filled with worry and anger at the same time

“TRAVIS! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” He yelled as he rushed towards Travis wrapping his arms around him in a tight hug, snuggling his head into Travis’s chest as tears started to stain Travis's jacket. Travis flinched when Devin ran, he thought he was gonna shout at him or something. He was shaking in fear, or that was because of the cold. He couldn't tell. As Devin approached he closed his eyes awaiting the worst just for his fear to be washed away by the warmth of Devin’s arms around his body.

“Im sorry” He paused. looking up at Travis. His face was red and his eyes were puffy from crying. before continuing “I didn't mean to leave. I didn't mean for this to happen. I'm so sorry. Im so fucking sorry” he was now fully face to face with travis. Hot tears rolled down his cheeks while Travis just stood there. He was still processing what was happening. The weight of the gun weighing his hand down. Devin turned away and pulled away his right hand from Travis’s back to cover his teary face while he was calming down from what he had just seen. Travis continued to stare at him.

Eventually Travis couldnt hold back anymore and started ugly crying. Right then and there in Devin’s arm(s). He dropped the gun before falling down on his knees and covering his face with his hands. Sobs and hiccups were all that Devin could hear.
Before Devin could do anything Travis scooted closer to Devin and hugged his legs for some support while he broke down.

Devin didn't know what to do. He bent over and hugged Travis again. It was kind of an uncomfortable position but what other choice did he have? He traced circles into Travis’s back as he whispered apologies. God he felt terrible. He just left Travis knowing damn well he wouldn’t survive out there. He had no money, he was getting evicted and he had hallucinations constantly terrorizing him.

Eventually Travis calmed down. And immediately everything dawned on him. But before he could break down again, Devin’s touch and whispers broke him out of his trance. He looked up at him.

“We should probably go somewhere warmer.” Devin stated.

Travis nodded “Okay.”

Travis let go of Devin’s legs while Devin grabbed his hands and pulled him up. Hand in hand they began walking back to the car when Devin remembered and quickly let go of Travis’s hand and went to grab the gun from the ground. It had sunk into the snow which made it a little hard to find but eventually he found it and unloaded it and ran back to Travis. They continued holding hands the whole way back. Neither of them said anything about it, but to be honest, they had bigger problems right now. As they got to the cars, Devin led Travis to the passenger seat of his car, keys in hand he unlocked the car before opening the door for him. He went to the driver’s seat. Opening the door and hopping into the car that was slightly warmer then outside. He put the keys in the engine turning the keys as the car whirred to life. He immediately turned on the radiator so they wouldn't have to freeze anymore.

Devin turned to look at Travis. He was just staring onto the road

Devin waved his hand in front of Travis’s face. “HeLlOoO, earth to Travis?” He tried to lighten the mood a bit. Travis turned to look at him with a neutral look on his face.

“We're going to Rusty’s. I know that- I know you don’t like him but I need to fix this somehow. And that starts with getting you a place to sleep…… I'm sorry.” He whispered that last part. As he shifted the gear stick and stepped onto the pedal, driving to Rusty’s house, already dreading the conversation he's gonna have with Rusty to explain why that so called “Freak” is now at his place, looking for somewhere to sleep. It didn't matter, all that mattered was that he fixes the horrible mistake that almost cost Travis’s life.

It's gonna be a long night.
