Work Text:
Trembling in the silence, my heart
beats in a familiar rhythm.
As I walk through the darkness at the
start of something beautiful, I see you.
You are here beside me, yet you are
far away like the promise of the dawn.
But as long as you are here, I have
nothing to fear.
I call to you, but you pay no heed to me.
We walk upon different paths as you
begin to fade into the bright unknown.
I know there can be no sweet hellos
between us: only solemn goodbyes.
I know that now.
This thing called love swells in my chest
and in the song I sing.
One day, when the time is right, I might
sing to you my song of eternity.
One day, the light will come home and
nest in our arms and in our souls.
Maybe then, on that new day,
I will see you smile.
Stumbling through the silence, my heart
beats in an unfamiliar rhythm.
As I walk through the darkness at the
end of something beautiful, I see you.
You are no longer beside me; you are far
away like the promise of the dawn.
The future awaits you, the morning
breaks, and the day will shine for you.
