Chapter Text
The road runner is running. Running running running.
The road runner sees the coyote. Fun fun fun. The road runner loves the coyote. The road runner loves the game they play. Loves watching the coyote chase chase chase.
The coyote is making… a nest.
A nest.
Finally. Finally finally finally finally. The coyote has realized what the road runner has known all along. When the coyote started offering the road runner food, the road runner thought it knew what was happening. After all, the coyote does all the things mates are supposed to do. It feeds the road runner. It gives the road runner water. It offers the road runner baths. It runs with the road runner. It holds their territory and protects it from others.
Like that terrible, awful bunny.
Grr.
The road runner does not like the bunny.
But now, finally, it’s happening. The coyote is building a nest. And in the nest… an egg. A perfectly shaped, perfectly large road runner egg.
The road runner thought the coyote might never lay, but it’s so glad it was wrong.
It hops up onto the egg happily. It will hatch the egg. The coyote doesn’t need to worry about a thing. It may be thin, but the road runner is very warm. And it watched its mother hatch its siblings. It knows exactly what to do.
The coyote isn’t waiting close by, which is strange. The road runner wishes the coyote were here for this. Maybe it’s getting more food. The coyote is so good at feeding the road runner.
The road runner settles in and gets comfortable. Shifts back and forth happily on top of the egg. The egg egg egg egg egg. The egg!
The road runner is so excited, but this could take a long, long time. It has to be patient. The road runner is not good at patient. But for Wile E’s egg? The road runner will be as patient as it needs to be. The road runner is so so so excited to have a chick. A chick with Wile E! Its lifelong mate! The road runner is ecstatic.
Rmmmmmmmb.
Crk. Crk. Crk.
And out of the egg pops a small clock with a road runner head. That was fast. Just like the road runner.
The road runner watches it. It is not a road runner. It… kind of looks like a road runner.
Oh, poor Wile E. The coyote must have gotten so frustrated with not laying properly that it built an egg. Silly coyote. Doesn't the coyote know that its buzzy toys always blow up?
The road runner watches as the not-chick explodes in the coyote’s face.
Oh, the poor coyote. The road runner feels bad for it.
The road runner will have to lay the egg for both of them. It’s not sure it can do that. But it will try its absolute best. It loves Wile E, and if Wile E wants an egg, the road runner will do whatever it can to get one. The road runner would do anything for its mate.
