Work Text:
Pausing to examine the remains of Navy Lieutenant Mark Schilz which lie perfectly preserved inside the cargo pod that an unnamed deer hunter, Gibbs can't believe that the Lieutenant has been found albeit dead after being declared missing for over nine years.
It's of little comfort, though.
This means if the Lieutenant has any family left, they'll have to be told of his fate.
Which means grief.
Pain.
Tears.
Yet Gibbs knows that this isn't an accident.
It's too clean.
Too calculated.
No.
If anything, this is a murder.
Plain and simple.
Someone murdered him and hid his body like this for many years.
They probably assumed it'd go unreported.
Well, they're wrong.
Because now this case is active.
Very active.
Gibbs won't stop until he's uncovered the truth of how and why Lieutenant Schilz wound up here.
He will get closure for the family.
And that is a promise.
