Work Text:
You didn’t think anything would come from your silly, desperate text.
You had spent all day in bed, doubled over with the worst cramps of your life. You’ve barely been able to eat all day, and haven’t done anything but felt miserable for yourself. You scrolled on your phone, which was always a bad idea, because you came across sad animal videos, and then you came across people doing cute couple trends, and that made you feel horrible and miss your man more than anything.
So you sent Simon a text. You didn’t think he would even see or respond with much, really. All you said was that you missed him.
Then your stomach reminded you of its anger and you rushed to the bathroom, locking yourself inside. With period cramps always came the worst stomachaches you’ve ever had in your life, you swear. You were in there, dizzy and sweating with every part of your body aching and your head swimming for what must have been at least an hour before you splashed cold water on your face and returned to bed. You fixed the towel you laid out on the bed just in case and then crawled back under the covers to curl up and try not to die.
You paid no attention to your phone. You had turned it on silent earlier when your headache started, and you decided to take a break from screentime to see if it helped.
You weren’t sure when you nodded off, but you woke up when you heard the door to your house slam open.
Shit, shit, shit, shit…
You rolled over, reached for the metal bat you kept by your bedside. You could have sworn you locked the door, you always do!
You practically fell out of bed because the covers tangled around your legs when you went to get up. You heard heavy footsteps searching through your house and it sobered you instantly. You gripped the baseball bat and got to your feet, going to the closet to hide out. You left the door open slightly enough so you could peek out and gripped the bat tightly in your hands.
The bedroom door opened and you watched a large man step in, but he didn’t go to the jewelry left on the dresser, which made you pause. He went to the bed, lifting the covers and cursing softly when he didn’t find what he wanted. He turned around and you caught the familiar skull balaclava on his face.
Your shoulders immediately relaxed and you let the bat hang loose in your hands as you pushed open the closet door, stepping out and revealing yourself to him.
“Simon, fucking hell,” you scoffed tiredly. “What are you doing home so early?”
“You didn’t answer your phone,” he gruffed, stepping forward immediately.
He took the bat from you and set it down against the wall, then he was scanning you for injury. Confused, you let him pat down your sides as he searched for an injury you didn’t have so he could reassure himself.
“What do you mean? Did something happen?”
“Your text.”
“My text?”
“You never text me you miss me out of the blue and then go radio silent for hours,” he huffed, still searching your face for something. “I thought… I thought somethin’ was wrong.”
“Oh… Oh shit, sorry, Si,” you sighed, realizing how worried you must have made him. You knew he got worked up easily over you.
You stepped forward and opened your arms, and he stepped into them, letting you hug him as he reciprocated by wrapping you up in his big, strong arms.
“Nothing’s wrong, I’m just having a shitty day,” you mumbled into his shoulders, feeling him pet down your back. “I didn’t mean to make you rush home.”
“Well, I’m here now,” he muttered, resting his chin on top of your head.
“Won’t Price be mad you skipped early?”
“Price can deal,” he muttered. “My wife needs me.”
You melted in his arms at that, always over the moon every time he referred to you as his wife. You still couldn’t believe he tied the knot with you, that he wanted you for the rest of your lives.
Before you could say anything else, he scooped you up into his arms and started to carry you back to bed, and you didn’t have it in you to fight him. The weak exhaustion hit you again as the adrenaline from preparing to fight an intruder wore off.
Simon pulled back the covers and laid you back down, glancing at the towel you put over the fitted sheet of the bed. Then he glanced down at you, looking over your attire and you were painfully aware you were still in your pajamas from the night before.
“Hmm,” he hummed.
“What?”
“I see what happened here.” He leaned forward, pecking your forehead through his mask. “I’ll be right back, lovie.”
You watched Simon leave the bedroom, missing him again already. He wasn’t gone long, though. He returned with a glass of water and the heated blanket from the hall closet folded over his arm. He set the water and the bottle of pain reliever from the bathroom at your bedside table and then unfolded the heated blanket to place it over you. He found the cord and plugged it in, turning it on to medium.
“You get nice n’ cozy, luv,” he muttered, bending down to kiss you through his mask again on the top of your head. “I’m takin’ a shower first, I’m rank from PT.”
You watched Simon leave you again to grab a quick change of clothes from his dresser and then head out to the bathroom. You knew he would be back soon, but again you missed him.
You burrowed under the blanket that was slowly getting warmer and grabbed your phone from your bedside. You unlocked it to find that Simon had sent you multiple texts after yours asking if everything was alright, and then a final text saying he was coming home. You felt bad for making him leave work, but at least he had mentioned that morning that he didn’t have much on his schedule outside of PT and running a few drills for some new recruits.
Simon reentered the room after just a few minutes so you tossed your phone back on the table, taking a couple pain relievers and drinking half the glass of water he left you while he tossed his sweaty clothes into the hamper. The water was nice and cold, with ice cubes just the way you liked you. He knew you so well.
As you set the glass back down, you felt the bed dip as Simon joined you. He lifted the heated blanket to crawl under with you, wrapping his arms around your middle as he pulled you into his arms. You turned around to cuddle into him, smiling when you found his face bare and maskless. You took the opportunity to lean up, kissing the underside of his jaw and making him sigh heavenly.
“Have you been rottin’ in bed all day, luv?” he muttered, tilting his head to look down at you. One hand ran along your back and the other cupped your face so you couldn’t hide from him.
“Maybe…”
“Tha’s no good,” he muttered, leaning in to kiss the top of your head. He really was a big softie when he knew you were upset. “Have you eaten, at least?”
You tried to sink down in shame, but Simon’s hands kept you from escaping.
“Luv,” he scoffed. “Alright, looks like I’m orderin’ takeaway then, hm?”
“I’m sorry…”
“Don’t be,” he corrected. “You look like you feel like shit.”
“I do feel like shit,” you chuckled, letting him pull you against his chest. You sighed, sinking into him as the warmth of the heated blanket started to soothe your aches and pains. “I feel like such a baby, making you come home because I missed you…”
“You needed me,” he muttered, kissing your cheek again. This time, you could feel his lips properly against your skin without the mask in the way. “My wifey’s in pain and distress and needs me, of course I was comin’ home to her.”
“I don’t what I did to deserve you,” you mumbled against his chest, inhaling the smell of him deeply. He smelled like that cheap soap he insisted on using because it ‘got the job done’.
“I ask myself that about you every day,” he murmured, holding you tighter until you were practically squished against him, but the compression made you feel that much better.
“Mm.. I love you, Simon.”
“Love you too, lovie.”
He set his hand on your back over the heated blanket, rubbing soothing circles to help the ache in your lower back. You sighed, closing your eyes as you let the warmth and comfort make you drowsy, and soon you fell into a light sleep against him, content to nap. You knew he would likely pull out his phone and start ordering food while you dozed, and you didn’t mind at all, knowing you would be safe and provided for in his care now that he was home.
