oryn and zef's friend groups roamed a park together as the sun was setting. they were broken up into pairs as they walked along the path with chatter among them. kazu and koa walked side by side. koa blushed at something kazu said and hid his face in his hands, earning a genuine smile from kazu. lin and taro led the group while "bickering" with each other, everyone except them knew they were flirting.
zef and oryn silently observed the four from behind. neither knew what to say. just as it was beginning to get awkward between them, lin called out to the group.
"guys, look! there's a playground!" she sprinted ahead.
kazu, koa, and taro raced behind her without hesitation, leaving oryn and zef behind.
"those idiots.." zef grumbled.
oryn sighed, "gotta love 'em."
zef groaned and tossed his head back out of annoyance, exhaustion, and a hint of something else.
"are you okay?" oryn asked worriedly.
"i'm fine." zef spat.
"okay... shall we have a seat? i don't really wanna play on the equipment either," he laughed and pointed to a bench.
the two walked over and sat next to each other without a word. after a few moments of silence, oryn tried to make conversation.
"so..-"
"i already told you, don't try that talk no jistu shit with me. i'm only here for taro."
oryn glanced at zef, "i know you're not really the type to talk about feelings, but i can tell something's up and i want you to know im hear to listen, if you'd like."
he let out a sharp exhale, "we're supposed to hate each other. i'm a villain. you're a protagonist. we aren't supposed to be all buddy-buddy."
oryn hesitantly placed a hand on zef's knee.
"don't." zef called out and forced himself to look away, "you're making this harder for both of us."
"making what harder?"
"...killing you."
"what?"

.
zef let out a barely audible whisper, "i don't want to kill you, i don't think i ever really did. but i have to."
oryn's heart sunk and his eyes seemed to fall out of focus, he'd never seen zef like this. zef has never been the kind of person to hide, and here he was with tensed shoulders facing away from him while letting out uneven breaths. it was a painful sight.
"well," oryn hesitated, "i've thinking over this a lot recently. you know i've never wanted to fight you, but it's our fate to fight each other, right?"
he was met with silence.
"i was talking to kazu and koa a few days ago... and they.. gave me an idea."
zef turned his head slightly as he listened.
"i should've told you sooner, but... i've been trying to change our story."
zef he's whipped around as he exclaimed, "what?! how?! to what?!?!"
"that's the tricky part and why i haven't told you," oryn laughed out of embarrassment, "only if you're okay with it...." he took a deep breath, "..i think a bl would be nice."
zef's eyes widened, "a bl..? with.. me?" his cheeks flushed.
"yeah.. you know, enemies to lovers? that sort of thing." oryn's voice became less and less confident as he continued speaking.
zef rested against back of the bench with his mouth agape and his cheeks pink.
"sorry, i know this is kind of sudden and probably made everything really awkward but i totally understand if you don't want that and we can choose something else-..." the words spilt out of oryn's mouth faster than he could process. he had to cut himself off. he was panicked, he didn't know what to do. he winced as he watched zef seemingly calculate something in his head.
zef could only find three words, "that's.. an idea."
"i'm sorry," oryn looked down, ashamed.
"stop apologizing," zef cupped oryn's face and forced him to look at him, "i never said no," he stated factually. he hesitated for a moment, "i just.. don't know what my family would think." his hand slipped down oryn's chest.
"we can figure it out-"
"what if they hurt you?"
both remained silent and turned to face the playground. zef noticed oryn's hand was still on his thigh. he put his own hand atop his and pulled it closer to his hip, his thumb grazing the back of it.
zef put his head on oryn's shoulder as he spoke, "i didn't know you thought of me like that."
oryn laughed, "kinda hard to not catch feelings when you're yelling that i'm yours all the time."
"yeah, cuz you are mine." zef cuddled closer as he thought through this interaction. it everything making sense now. "all mine." he repeated.
"i'm all yours." his nose found zef's scalp. he took a deep breath and planted a small kiss on the top of his head.
zef went rigid and looked up.
"i'm sorry i-"
"what did i say about apologizing?"
"im sor- you're right." oryn corrected himself.
zef looked down at oryn's lips his hand cupped his face again, "i never said i didn't like it." he brought his lips to meet the ones in front of him, before momentarily pulling away to observe oryn's reaction.
his face was pinker than his hair, his eyes were so wide it looked like they might pop out. zef could only giggle at the sight before pulling them back together.

kazu, taro, koa, and lin crouched behind a slide and watched the interaction, koa and lin were the only ones who really cared, though none could hear what they were talking about
lin gripped koa's cardigan, "oh my god they just kissed!" she squealed.
"oh my god! oh my god this is so cute!!" koa squealed back and shook lin.
"we did so good!!" lin grinned.
taro and kazu sat silently, unimpressed.
kazu sighed, "at least they're happy."
taro laughed, "quite the handful, but.. gotta love 'em."
