Chapter Text
Draco Malfoy:
I don't want to do the whole hello or long time no see thing.
I just have something that's been bothering me for a long time.
That year in that shop, you saw me through the glass, didn't you? I saw your father hit you with his cane. Why didn't you say I was hiding there?
And that day at your manor, you clearly recognized me. Why didn't you point me out?
Before the war, I thought about it day and night and still couldn't work out what you were planning. I even had dreams about beating you at Quidditch. I got so obsessed that I stopped caring about real Quidditch matches. Ron and Hermione said I was like a different person. I admit it. I was obsessed.
I went to the bathroom hoping to find you and missed you every time, until one day I finally saw you there. You were crying, and I was shocked. You were telling Moaning Myrtle about all the things you were scared of inside. You get scared too?
I used to see you as just one thing: a terrible person. The sharp tongue, the arrogance, all of it was awful.
The first time I met you in Diagon Alley, the way you talked reminded me of Dudley. What I couldn't stand was you calling Hagrid a servant.
You probably don't know that I was comparing myself to you too, and I was excited to find out there were things even you didn't know.
I also had thoughts about pranking Dudley to get back at him, making his hair fall out or something. I can't deny that when I looked at that book through the shop window, I had those kinds of bad thoughts.
Back then we were getting fitted for Hogwarts robes together, and we never even introduced ourselves.
Maybe we can't be friends now. Your crying and sobbing made me understand that people are complicated and have many sides. You didn't deserve to die. That's why I came back twice in the Room of Requirement to save you. If we had met for the first time when we were both older and more mature, maybe we could have been pretty decent "friends".
I'm sorry I hurt you so badly that day. If you want, come to my house for tea. You're welcome anytime.
