Chapter Text
This would be your first EVA.
You and Grace held the laptop, taking turns trying to get into the stuffy undergarments and figuring out how to weasel into the suit. It proved quite annoying. However, time was of the essence. A mysterious object had been launched toward the ship, and you two had to investigate.
“Aha,” Grace said, bumping the helmet on with his hand. You furrowed your brows and shimmied it onto him so it could connect correctly.
“Your glasses are crooked.” You grinned.
“I know.” He sighed, knocking on the glass with his fist. It wasn't much help.
He came forward and helped you with your EVA suit. He put the helmet on you as you watched him carefully, clicking it into place.
“Thank you.” You sighed a breath of relief.
Grace nodded in response and turned the hatch to the ship. The room was depressurizing, and you were waiting behind him while the room filled with white smoke.
Once the door had opened, Grace peered through, grabbing his rope that was tethered to both you, him, and the ship.
You watched him hunch over. You leaned over to try to see what he might've been seeing, but then he immediately retracted himself with a “nope”.
“Is everything okay out there?” You asked, coming closer. You looked over to the starry scene in front of you. Your pulse spiked.
You looked back at him. You could tell just by his eyes that he was filled with terror.
“We got to go find it though…” You said, looking back at him. “So…”
“No!” Grace backed himself up to the closed hull, suddenly causing him to launch into space. You felt the tug against where the tether was clipped, immediately being ripped away from the ship.
You and he screamed as you two flailed around each other’s rope. You spun, trying to reach out for the brief glimpses of his red EVA suit that you saw.
He grabbed onto you and pulled you in tight, just against his chest. You spun with him until he was able to grab onto one of the metal handles against the hull, with one arm still wrapped against your torso.
You whined at the nauseating movement, finally coming to a stop. Except your legs still felt like they were floating.
He let out a sigh. You could hear him through the comms. You tried to look up at him, but the helmet blocked your view.
Instead, you saw the stars twinkling, but also the rather massive ship beside you two. It was quite distracting, and it was unlike anything you’d ever seen.
With just a few beats of silence as he was encouraging himself to pull you two up, you looked down at his arm and felt a stutter in your chest.
“This is quite romantic.” You said abruptly, grabbing onto his thick, gloved hand. You could feel him tense in response.
“You’re weird,” he said. You could tell he tried to stifle a laugh, though you didn’t know if it was from amusement or fear. “We’re in the middle of an EVA. Come on, you seriously can’t be thinking about that now?”
“I’m lonelier than I initially guessed.” You shrugged against him.
With no response but a grunt, he pulled you and him up to rest against the ship. With you first, your bottom half flung as his arm pulled you above him and back onto the ship. You let out a disgruntled sound as your body smacked against the white metal. Your hands desperately latched onto the closest rail they could find.
You looked back at him with widened eyes. He, too, looked merely shocked for just a moment, but was nonetheless happy you were safe.
"What made you want to say that?" He asked.
"Is this the right time for that?" You said, looking at the flying object.
"I guess not, but I want to know. I mean, we're the only two human beings here on a mission." His hands fidgeted against the rail.
You chewed on your lip, thinking for just a moment. Yet the clock was still ticking.
"Let's just say I see you way more than as a crewmate." You said.
"Likewise." He said immediately.
Your face dropped into a simple, stunned expression.
He looked up at the large ship that was hanging above you two.
“Let’s wrap up our little space date then so we can see what this ship is sending us.” He said, grinning toward you.
A smile graced your face, and then you turned to look toward the incoming cylindrical object. You began pulling yourself toward it, with Grace following behind you.
