“Zoro, get off me!”

“There’s no fucking room to get off you”

After listening to Nami’s pleas on the other end of the line, Sanji ultimately agreed to attend the high school reunion party that her and her girlfriend were hosting.

Upon arriving at the house party, Sanji could already acknowledge the lively atmosphere and the reeking smell of alcohol that flowed seamlessly through the rooms. Sanji didn’t like to drink much, and in all honesty he hadn’t planned on indulging himself in more than one or two drinks.

But as he slowly swallowed down more of the intoxicating liquor, laughing along with his old friends, he found his shoulders relaxed and his mind evening out. He enjoyed the presence of his old friends, Luffy’s laughs, Usopp’s stories. It brought him back to his time in high school, the time where he could laugh with his friends during every break, where he could relax and take things one day at a time.

Now his days are spent working long hours at the Baratie, of course he loved cooking and he loved the Baratie, but his work seemed to consume him every day. He could slowly feel himself pulling back from all his old friends, declining offers to catch up due to his job (and the exhaustion of it).

So now, in this short moment Sanji decided he would take all that he could get. He would relax and laugh with his friends for this one night before waking up and going back to work tomorrow. He would let the alcohol cloud his mind, allowing him to enjoy this night. And he would ignore him.

As Sanji sat within the crowd of those both in who he was friends with and those who he barely remembered, a bottle spinned in the centre of them all. Sanji’s head spinned with the bottle, unfazed by the game in which he was taking part. He assumed with the amount of people participating in the game that there was a very low chance of him being landed on. This eased his mind, allowing himself to smile with his friends as they were randomly landed on to spend time with people they’d never interacted with before.

But non the less, his laughs were long lasted as the bottle ultimately landed on him. With a quick glance around the room it took no time before he figured who he would be spending the next seven minutes with alone. And of course with his luck that person was Zoro.

Without making eye contact, Sanji watched as Zoro made quick to open the closet, stepping inside.

Fuck.

Of course it landed on Zoro. The one person in the room that Sanji would be content to never talk with again for as long as he lives.

The same Zoro that Sanji had spent his whole time at high school crushing on. The Zoro that never looked back at him unless to argue. The Zoro that was always out of reach from Sanji.

They were friends in high school, however only when they were surrounded by their other friends. The other times that they were alone were only spent silently sitting in class and awkwardly sharing notes. Zoro never wanted to talk to him. Sanji understood.

Sanji always stared at Zoro, but he never stared back. The rare moments that they would exchange eye contact, Sanji wished Zoro would stare longer, keep looking at him. But he never did.

And apparently even now, 3 years later Zoro still couldn’t look at him. In all honesty he just wanted to leave his high school crush in the past, something bound for high school and high school alone.

Yet now, hot from the alcohol flowing through his blood, he decided that the quicker he got in, the quicker he would get out and never have to see this ugly moss head again. Standing up, his body swayed as he made his way to the closet.

Now, the two of them stand there within the small closet without any gap between their bodies. Sanji’s hands found a perch on Zoro’s chest, his head positioned downward so as to not look at Zoro. He didn’t want to see his face, not being this close.

They didn’t talk, they just stood there, silently, the only thing audible being their deep breaths. “Did you drink?” Zoro suddenly asked, cutting through the silence and simultaneously catching Sanji off guard. Sanji’s head slowly lifted up, and for the first time in years their eyes met.

“Yeah…” Sanji whispered, gripping Zoro’s shirt as he pulled his eyes away to look at the wall behind him.

“I thought you didn’t like drinking” Zoro leaned onto Sanji’s shoulder, his hands finding comfort on Sanji’s slim waist. Sanji however, pushed back from Zoro enough so he could see Zoro’s face again. “Why the fuck do you care what I like or dont?” He furrowed his eyebrows, glaring at him through his visible eye. Sanji also couldn’t help but question how Zoro knew at all that he didn’t like alcohol. Zoro never paid him any mind so why does he remember that? He only spoke about it briefly at a party in high school where he refused a bottle of beer. He in all honesty doesn’t remember mentioning it to any of his friends, not even Nami.

“I don’t care, I was just asking” Zoro grunted, gripping his waist harder.

Sanji sighed softly, looking down again. “How long until we can leave?”

“It’s only been two minutes”

“Zoro, get off me!”

“There’s no fucking room to get off you”

Sanji shoved Zoro’s shoulders, attempting to push him off.

“You big oaf! Move!” Sanji could feel his knees weaken as Zoro’s eyes never left him. Sanji gulped as he tried to stare anywhere other than at the man in front of him. “Don’t look at me..” He whispered, defeated.

“Why not?”

‘Why not?’

Sanji bitterly laughed, “Why not? You’re fucking kidding me.”

“You couldn’t even bear to look at me during high school so what the hell changed within these three years.” Sanji stared daggers at him, scowling. “What? Have you finally decided that I’m worthy of Roanora Zoro’s attention?”

“What are you talking about!?” Zoro argued back.

“Y’know-” Sanji started before he was cut off by lips slamming into his own. Zoro took Sanji’s face within his own hands, cupping it within his strong grasp.

Zoro pushed deeply, sliding his tongue on the base of Sanji’s lower lip before trailing it into his mouth. Zoro was kissing Sanji so passionately that he hadn’t had time to pull away nor reflect. However, he supposed he hadn’t needed to because Zoro’s skillful mouth felt good. And suddenly he could feel everything. Every brush of Zoro’s calloused fingers on his cheeks. Every brush of Zoro’s tongue on his teeth. Every deep breath that warmed his face.

But before he could get fully pleasure drunk off Zoro’s tongue, it would occur to them both that their seven minutes were over. Zoro paused at the sound of Luffy yelling from the room, allowing Sanji enough time to pull away as the closet opened.

Sanji took no time to immediately part ways with Zoro.

A few days after the party, after Sanji’s hangover subsided, he continued his work at the Baratie as normal. However, as much as he tried to forget what happened, he just couldn’t. What was that?

He assumed it was probably because Zoro had been drinking and had just done such to pass the time. Whatever it was didn’t matter. He and Zoro weren’t going to see each other anytime soon, they didn’t like each other and they didn’t care for each other.

They had gone three years without seeing each other and Sanji could quite easily do it again.

Whatever Zoro was thinking in the moment wasn’t important to Sanji.

Well that was, until he got a phone call from an anonymous number.

Sanji was on his smoke break out the back of the restaurant, distressing from the heat of the stove. He initially just let it ring out, not bothered enough to figure out who it was. But as it kept ringing after the first call he decided whatever it was might be important and he may as well pick it up.

His name echoed from the other line, owned by a deep voice, Zoro’s voice.

“Zoro? What do you want?” Sanji groaned, sliding down the chilling brink wall behind the kitchen.

“Where are you? Can we talk?”

“Talk about what?”

“Everything” Sanji sighed, confused and frustrated. “I’m at work, I finish at 12. Unless you’re going to wait until then, no.”

“Okay, I’ll pick you up then”

Sanji huffed out a chuckle, “fine”.
