“I’m bored.” Yunjin huffs.
“Hi, bored. I’m Nakamura Kazuha.”
Yunjin glares at the Japanese girl.
Kazuha stares back at her with the biggest, most dopiest of smiles. Eyes all squinty and bright, cheeks crinkly. She looks so damn proud of herself for such a lame joke, and Yunjin—
Oh god. Ugh.
Well.
Yunjin kinda sorta swoons, okay?! Just shut up.
The older girl rolls her eyes.
“You’re annoying.” She mumbles, weakly kicking at Kazuha’s sock-covered ankle before flopping down onto the couch right beside her.
She lays her head on Kazuha’s shoulder and clings to her arm, snuggling into Kazuha’s side and yawning quietly.
“What are you watching, Zuzu?”
Kazuha smiles softly at her voice, feeling the way her own fluffy heart bursts, her stomach curling up in tangent with it, nearly exploding with how intense its satisfaction runs. Kazuha imagines her heart sprouting little legs and running as far outwards as it possibly could, coming to a dead-end stop and having to resort to pound its tiny fists on Kazuha’s bones. Anything to try and make her open up the doors; the big double-doors that helped lead it to Yunjin.
The younger girl rests her head on Yunjin’s, leaning into her and almost laughing at her own silly little dream worlds.
“I’m not sure yet. Wanna help me decide?”
This was Kazuha’s love language. She was usually the queen of hogging the remote. Or more accurately, she just never let anyone tell her what to do. Cough cough at least most of the time, anyway. She was ever-gentle and happy to please, true. But we all have our own things we’re stubborn about.
What Kazuha wanted to watch, she was going to watch. There was no question about it. There was no such thing as negotiation or convincing her otherwise. She adored movies and television, enchanted by the idea of a silly wild-west story, or an epic fantasy adventure, or a romantic life lesson. It was nice to indulge sometimes. It was nice to have different places she could pretend to be in. Places where she didn’t have to be anything for any audience. She could just live as herself. Perhaps even as a background character buying simple apples or oats at the market.
So, naturally, she grows protective of this. It’s her form of escapism, more or less, and so any potential threat to that sanctuary is an instant call-to-arms. No one gets to interrupt her precious TV time!
Unless, of course, you know… Kazuha says so. Because she sorta kinda maybe has a crush on this person.
Strange. It’s so totally not obvious or anything.
The good thing about having her crush is that she doesn’t act much differently to the point where it’s palpable.
(At least that’s what she thinks.)
And the truth of the matter is that there is some crediblility to this claim; Kazuha was the biggest, most lovable and goofy sweetheart who naturally looked at people like they were her world.
The difference? It lies in the subtleties. Things that the fans would never get to see. Things like how her heart-eyes for Yunjin always stayed well-past the cameras. Things like how Kazuha became extra clingy after a frustrating day of practice. Things like how she tries to read more books now, or looks up YouTube tutorials on how to play simple guitar chords.
People had always joked about their relationship being one-sided. The whole ‘love triangle’ thing and how Yunjin supposedly liked Kazuha while Kazuha was stuck on Chaewon. People online were funny like that. What else were they supposed to think, when they were only seeing what was scripted?
And sure, yes, it’s a joke. All light-hearted good fun, and really it’s just a part of the job. Kazuha gets that. But still… sometimes she doesn’t like it.
She wishes people could see. But then, at the same time, maybe she doesn’t. She doesn’t mind having a pretty girl all to herself.
Yunjin kept being outwardly and openly affectionate with Kazuha because Kazuha was outwardly and openly affectionate with her, too. Only in private. Yunjin knew that Kazuha would mess around and poke fun and be clingy with everyone else but Yunjin, because that was what the paper said. That was what the meetings said.
But the world flips once the doors close.
Kazuha is gentle. And smiley. And so thoughtful, in that whimsical Zuha way, and Yunjin dissolves into mush.
Yunjin knows that it’s her, at the end of the day. It’s her that Kazuha chooses and holds and kisses goodnight. It’s her that sees the real Kazuha, barefaced and in her adorable button-up pajamas. That’s why it doesn’t bother her when the jokes are made. Work is work. Business is business. Simple as that.
And it’s her life, with the truths that only she knows. And it’s her Kazuha, with the long legs and addiction to lizard gummies. It’s her Kazuha who lets Yunjin be a sulky brat; it’s her Kazuha that pampers her and lets her get whatever she wants.
Including this.
Yunjin sits up suddenly, throwing her leg across Kazuha’s lap and sitting on top of her.
“I’m bored.” She repeats, in a testy manner. “I wanna touch your muscles.”
Kazuha blinks, a breathy laugh tumbling out of her and that smile that made her ten times more attractive blooming across her face.
Her hand comes up to hold Yunjin’s hip.
“Really, unnie? That’s your idea for curing your boredom?” She teases.
Yunjin nods, beaming with a smile.
She makes a show of tilting her head, putting on her best puppy eyes and pouty lips. It looks reminiscent of when she’s about to do aegyo, and the thought nearly makes her cringe so hard she self-sabotages. That is, until she remembers that Kazuha is an absolute secret sucker for her aegyo. For the cheesy cute act. She’s grossed out for the camera, yes, but Yunjin knows the truth. It’s obvious in her blush.
“Pleaseeee, Zuzu.” The blonde girl says, ultra-sweetly, fiddling with the hem of Kazuha’s beater tank. “Pretty please. You’re already wearing the perfect shirt, you know…”
Kazuha feels her heart skip, the princess act never failing to get her nice and whipped.
“Ugh. Unnieeee…” She whines, nearly covering her face.
Yunjin’s plump lips curl into a smirk, eyes flashing down to Kazuha’s lips while she leans in.
She presses a kiss, feather-light, to Kazuha’s cheek.
“Please, Zuzu.” She whispers, holding her lips just above Kazuha’s. “C’mon. For me?”
But her hands are already on Kazuha’s shoulders. Fingertips readily claiming what’s hers.
Kazuha whines quietly, her face extremely warm and her stomach swooping low all the way down to her socks. She knows she’s about to be praised, and she always did have a thing for being told how physically strong she is. Now imagine it coming from the hot girl of her dreams.
Kazuha’s body works without even her thinking about it. She lets go of the remote and stretches her arms up, tucking them behind her head and flexing in that special way she knows Yunjin likes.
Yunjin smiles, planting a kiss on Kazuha’s lips and reaching down to roll Kazuha’s shirt up and expose her abs.
“Good girl.” The blonde murmurs. “Look at these big muscles…”
Kazuha blushes.
Yeah. There’s no fucking love triangle at all.
