Work Text:

It had been a while since your last date night.
What with Joon’s busy schedule (and a new mixtape about to drop, but no one was supposed to know that) and your tireless work with other idols.
Sometimes you wondered how you got so lucky, being called in to cover another stylists shift one day. "Just a quick photoshoot" they said. Fortunately for you, that photo shoot had extended far past the camera. Now, you were happily floating through an almost two-year long relationship with the kindest soul you had ever met: Kim Namjoon. And as soon as he got off that plane, it was time for a long overdue date night.
Your phone buzzed on the bed beside you. "BTS Kim Namjoon Incheon Airport 161203" your Twitter notification said. You smiled deeply and got off the bed to get ready. It only took about 8 months of dating to figure out it would be faster to figure out where Joonah was by following his best fansite than by waiting for him to have time to text. Manager-nim tried to give them time but it was hard. As you turned your shower speaker on to listen to some music while showering, your phone buzzed.
"Landed. See you soon, baby. ❤" from contact ID Joonie.
Your smile only widened as you thought about holding his hand again and hugging. Of course date night would be held at the BigHit building: no one knew about your relationship except for the group and staff, as you had pushed for the secrecy. You didn't want to see your love being abused online for dating and you were a little scared of what overzealous fans might do for their oppa.
Twenty minutes later, you got into a cab and check your email. Nothing much new, but one surprising email from Namjoon. This was not entirely unusual: if Joonah couldn't message you via phone, he would email you when he got wifi. He liked emailing you some of his thoughts throughout the day. Thoughts about how the world works and what he wanted in the future. How he felt about you. How much he missed you. How much he wanted to be with you forever. It was deep and it was personal; he trusted you.
You read the email, stopping yourself half way through to make sure you didn't cry. Your mascara was not waterproof and you were not going to re-apply it in a cab.
After choking back tears you finished the email. It read like this:
"We are chasing the sun with the plane. It is trying to run away and take its warmth with it, but our plane is just holding on to the tails of the farthest rays.
I'm glad we can move this fast. I want to be home. I want to be in your arms. I want to hold you and make you feel better and sing you to sleep because I know you don't sleep well with no one by your side, even if you say you do.
I can't help but imagine my life without you sometimes. I'm a bit of a masochist that way. I look at what I would be without you and shudder. I love you more than the earth and the moon and the Han river combined. You are my air. I cannot live without you, my love.
I can't wait to see you when we catch this sun.
Love always, Joonie."
As you finished, your cab stopped outside of BigHit. You payed and quickly ran inside, greeting the lady at the front desk. Her name was Sam. She was a lovely foreigner who got the job three years ago and had helped you get Namjoon’s phone number after your first meeting. She joked that she shipped you and Namjoon, but you never took her seriously.
When you said hello, her smile broke ear-to-ear and she pressed the button to open the gate doors. You were meeting Joonie on the roof garden area. They had built it when JHope could no longer go outside the building to dance without being followed, but needed some fresh air. He and Yoongi had grown the most beautiful flowers and plants since its start, and hung fairy lights just recently so they could practice up there at night.
"Have a great night!! I know you will!" Sam called behind you. You waved and pressed the up button. For some reason, as the door closed you thought you could hear crying.
As you walked down the hall to the roof entrance, you noticed that Jimin's studio door was open, but he wasn't in. Odd. He usually never left the studio until 12 pm, even if they had just gotten off a flight. You pushed the roof access door open and breathed in the smell of roses.
As you closed the door, someone hummed.
You slowly turned around to find Jin, Jungkook, Jimin, Taehyung, Yoongi, and Hoseok standing by a small table with a single candle on it. The fairy lights blended in with the stars and the trees around you slightly rustled in the wind.
"Guys, what's going on? Where's-"
"Always." Namjoon spoke softly as he stepped out from behind a bush. He wore a white button-down and black slacks, his hair in its own natural perfection.
"Joonie, what's going on?" You asked quietly. Your heart began to race.
"Always." He sighed and grabbed your hands with both of his. They were warm. They were home.
"I will love you from now until always. And I want to show you that. No matter how far away I go, no matter how long this winding road. I will love you. Always."
Jin hummed once more, and the boys joined in. They hummed a sweet tune that you had heard once before... the piano on Namjoon’s new song, titled "Always".
When you looked a Jin, Namjoon removed one hand from yours. He reached into his pocket and smiled.
"Always, my love. Always."
