Pheromones are scents that people can release. I cant tell you how they do it, but they function just as they do in animals. They indicate emotional state, status or heat/ rut.

What´s heat and rut in the omegaverse?

Heat is the time where an omega is fertile. It lasts a few days and occurs every few months I think. At that time omegas emit strong pheromones to attract alphas. Some omegas produce slick, that’s some kind of secrete.
Rut is similar. A rut can be triggered naturally or by an omega in heat. Alphas are really instinct-driven and possessive during that time and try to bond with an omega. Bond just means a magical, deep-rooted connection. Once you´re mates the partners can perfectly soothe each other and the omega can completely ignore the scents of other alphas
