Work Text:
Coy was tired.
The start of the relationship was fine. His boyfriend took him out every now and then, he gave Coy some of his time, but as it went on he just… stopped.
The good morning and good night texts stopped, there was always an excuse to not go out, he never even wanted to call Coy. At first, Coy blamed it on himself, maybe he was just being too clingy, but he couldn’t shake off the feeling.
More than once a week, he found himself in the same predicament, drunk out of his mind sitting on a couch with none other than his best friend Will Mahony, rambling on about his boyfriends newest excuse while Will gave him a sad, almost annoyed look that drunk Coy could make nothing of.
“Like- He barely even fucking texts me…! Who the hell under the age of 40 actually uses the thumbs up emoji!?!” His arms lazily flailed around in front of him as he spoke, his words slurring together from both the alcohol in his body and the anger.
Coy knew this wasn’t the best way to work out his anger (the best one being to just talk to his boyfriend, but if the guy didn’t even want to text in full sentences, Coy was sure he would just be met with a “Let’s play 8-ball!” response), but it was still comforting to be affirmed by Will, even if the only advice Will could offer was:
A. Talk to him
and
B. Break up with him
None of those choices were exactly appealing to Coy. He still liked the guy, he really did, he was just frustrating and much less enjoyable than anyone else that Coy knew.
So that was his cycle, it was less than ideal, but it was something. He still had a loving boyfriend and loving friends, so he was okay. Everything was okay.

Coy could barely make sense of his thoughts as he opened the door to Will’s room at 11 pm on a tuesday night, his steps wobbly as he blinked back the rest of his tears and sniffled pathetically, trying to keep the tears and alcohol from spilling back out of his mouth.
“Coy…?” Will squinted in the dark, the only light being the computer screen he was just looking at, his eyebrows furrowing in concern as Coy wobbled closer.
“H-He forgot.” That was the only explanation Coy offered as he threw himself onto Will’s bed, gripping onto Will’s arm.
“Huh…? Forgot what?” Will wasn’t stupid, he knew exactly what had happened and he was furious. Coy hadn’t been able to shut up about him and his boyfriend’s anniversary for the past week.
Coy whined, shoving his head into the blankets like he was trying to burrow and hide in them. It was only after he had done so did Will realize that Coy was crying again.
“O-Our anniversary, Will. He forgot it. He fucking-“ He cut himself off with a sob, curling into himself further. He knew he was a fool for having any hope, but he wanted to believe so bad that he was still loved, still remembered.
Will sighed, wrapping an arm around Coy’s shoulder, gently pulling him closer, a look that Coy couldn’t understand painted onto his face.
“It’ll be okay Coy, alright? Just take a deep breath” He knew how Coy could get when he was too deep into his head, but he knew also knew how to pull Coy out of it.
Coy nodded, following along as Will guided him through taking drop breaths while Will’s hand soothingly massaged his shoulder. It was… nice, domestic even. It somehow felt more intimate than anything Coy had done with his boyfriend.
The two sat in silence for a while, basking in the company of the other during the tranquility of the night.
“M-Maybe you were right, Will… maybe I should break… up with him…” Coy’s voice trailed off every now and then as he fought the sleep that threatened to overtake him.
Will would be lying if he said he wasn’t at least a little surprised that Coy was admitting this. He knew Coy would break at some point, but Coy hated being wrong.
“I-I just wish I knew why this is all happening… what about me is so forgettable? Am I really that unappealing…?” His voice started warbling as the tears filled his eyes again, Will holding him tighter.
“No, no, none of that is true Coy… at all. You’re not unappealing or forgettable… quite the opposite, honestly,” Will chuckled a bit at the end of his sentence, tracing patterns onto Coy’s shoulder with his thumb.
Coy just nodded, messing with the hairs on Will’s arm as they sat there.
“If you were my boyfriend you wouldn’t forget about me… right?”
Right. Coy was still drunk.
“No, of course not.”
He felt Coy smile against his arm, dozing off not too long after.
Will sighed, the lump in his throat only growing. He shouldn’t feel guilty, because Coy’s boyfriend was a dick, but Will was still practically cuddling with someone’s boyfriend, and Coy’s question… he had to blame it on the alcohol. Despite the questions intentions, Coy was taken. Will didn’t have a chance, at least not yet.

Coy had planned to go out for dinner with his boyfriend a month later, because it was his boyfriend’s birthday, but of course, he cancelled last minute.
Coy was bummed, he wanted to celebrate his boyfriend’s birthday with him, but he wanted to celebrate with family he wasn’t out to yet, so Coy was omitted from the celebration.
To put salt on the wound, Coy had to refrain from drinking that night as well. He had to film a video with the rest of Bunch of Friends the next day, and his hangovers were never nice to him.
One thing he could do though was whine about it to Will, even if Will had been acting… off. It was like he scripted, checking every word he said to make sure it was correct, unlike the completely unfiltered Will he had grown used to.
Coy was able to complain for a good ten minutes before Will changed the topic.
“How about we watch a movie or something… maybe that’ll get your mind off him…?”
Coy just agreed, he didn’t mind doing most things with Will.
An hour later, Coy was laid almost fully on top of Will as they watched the movie playing on the computer that sat on Will’s waist, positioned perfectly so they could both see it.
During a quiet scene, Coy looked up at Will, who was fully focused on the movie, and Coy smiled. He looked cute.
He gently tapped Will’s shoulder to grab his attention, his smile softening as Will looked down at him with a tilted head.
“Just… thank you. For everything.”
Will smiled, his hand spreading across Coy’s back warmly.
“Of course… you deserve it.”
The words held a weight that Coy could feel on his shoulders, weighing down his body and his heart pumping faster to deal with it. The ache, the heat pumping through every vein in his body, his limbs suddenly feeling heavy.
Their gazes never left each other. Coy swallowed as he slowly leaned closer, and Will mirrored him. Coy could feel the familiar sensation of his nose bumping against another as his mind struck him with a reminder.
He had a boyfriend.
Sure, he wasn’t a good one, but he hadn’t gone so far as to cheat on Coy.
Coy couldn’t do it.
“Shit- I-Im sorry Will, I-“
He didn’t finish, just sitting up and silently leaving the room and entering his own. He shut the door and curled onto his bed.

When he really thought about it, maybe he should have just kissed Will that night, what happened after would have still occurred anyways.
Coy was sent the pictures by an anonymous number two weeks later. There were three.
The first one, his boyfriend at a party, red solo cup in hand as he leaned against a corner, talking to some guy. Coy didn’t recognize the guy, but that didn’t matter much, the photo was innocent enough
The second one was where the lines really started to blur, his boyfriend with the same guy, but this time they were dancing, hips pressed flush against each others, faces closer than a friendly interaction would usually allow.
The third one was really the cherry on top. It wasn’t hard to digest, it was his boyfriend making out with the guy, the guy who was most definitely not Coy.
Coy wasn’t nearly as devastated as he would’ve been as little as a month ago. He had come to terms with the fact that his boyfriend didn’t truly love him, but Coy was bitter. He could have had something he wanted long ago if he had just stopped caring about someone who never cared in the first place.
After the night they almost kissed, things were awkward between Will and Coy. Will basically avoided Coy, and Coy missed him. Will only talked to him during filming, and even then it was sparse, as he kept opting to be paired with Hanbon or Anthony. It was infuriating.
That’s why he was at Will’s room. Will cant run or hide anymore, and Coy had an excuse to be doing this now.
Coy entered without knocking, a sense of déjà vu filling him as he saw Will sitting in the dark, his computer light illuminating the room.
Will looked up in surprise, his mouth opening to speak, but Coy cut him off before he could even start.
“We need to talk.” His arms were crossed as he moved to stand at the foot of the bed.
“A-About…?” Will played the oblivious card. Of course.
“You know what, Will. What happened last time. When we almost kissed.” He was blunt. He wanted to get this over with and skip to the good part.
He could see Will sifting through his own thoughts, his expressions not doing a good job at concealing it.
“I-Im sorry, Coy. I-I know you have a boyfriend, as shitty as he is but-“
“He cheated on me.”
Coy could feel the air in the room change as he spoke those words.
“What?!” Will almost yelled in shock, his eyes bulging out of his head.
“Yeahhh… So, you don’t have to be too sorry about it.”
Once again, he could see Will’s thought process on his face as it settled with a dark flush.
“I…don’t?” He tilted his head, a hopeful lilt in his voice.
“Not really… I mean he clearly doesn’t seem too guilty about it, no reason for us too…” He looked around the room before settling on Will again, but he nervously rocked back and forth on his heels, “I-In fact we should do it… for real this time though..!”
He smiled awkwardly, praying Will would take the bait.
“I-I mean.. sure? If yo-Hmph!?” Will was interrupted by Coy straddling him on the bed and pressing their lips together, sighing in unison. It felt right, better than any kiss Coy had before.
Coy’s hands settled onto Wills shoulders as Will’s hands settled on his waist for a short while before they crept underneath Coy’s shirt, trying to feel every bare inch of him.
Coy nipped at Will’s bottom lip, drawing a whine from him as Coy ever so slightly shifted his hips.
Will pulled away from a moment,
“This isn’t just— fuck — a revenge thing… r-right..?” He was distracted by Coy kissing along his jaw and sucking on the area where his neck met his shoulder.
“Doesn’t have’ta be.” He kept his answer short as he pulled Will back in, burying his hands into Will’s beautiful fucking hair this time.
“Good. Don’t want it to be.” A string of spit connected he spoke, taking his turn to kiss and mark up Coy’s neck, to prove to Coys lame excuse of a boyfriend that he really was better, that Coy was Will’s.
Coy shook his head.
“Me neither.”
