His eyes fluttered open, and he lay sprawled on the couch. The room around him spun temporarily, and he rubbed his eyes, clearing the fog. There was light coming from the kitchen. It was obvious that he was in his old home. Chosen scanned the room with his eyes until someone caught his attention. He stood in the kitchen, his red hair impossible to mistake. It was him.
Chosen's heart sank to the bottom of his chest. A profound sense of dread overcame him.
"You're finally up," Dark said. He walked towards where Chosen was seated and plopped lazily onto the couch. "You know, I thought you were going to sleep for the entire day."
Dark turned to glance at Chosen, and he raised a brow.
"What's wrong, Cho? Bad dream?" He teased.
Chosen didn't reply; he reached a hand forward and brushed a finger across Dark's fur jacket. The one he always wore, the one Chosen had gotten him. He was really sitting next to him; he was alive.
"No." Chosen finally murmured quietly, "...Dark I thought you were dead."
Dark didn't pull his arm away but gave Chosen a small smile. "So it was a bad dream then? You must really care about me. Though, I'm not that easy to kill, I won't be dying anytime soon, Cho."
Chosen looked away.
"Yeah..." He replied, just above a whisper.
His heart ached, this wasn't real.
Dark turned Chosen's face towards his.
"Come on. I can tell when you're lying, what's on your mind Cho?" Dark said. His voice was quiet, in that small awkward way when he wasn't trying to be charming.
"Being sappy doesn't look good on you." Chosen replied, half-joking.
Dark lightly smacked Chosen, shaking his head.
"And this is what I get for being kind." Dark gasped dramatically. He put the back of his hand on his head, leaning back onto the couch.
"Stop it." Chosen stifled a small laugh.
Their laughter slowly ceased and a comfortable silence settled between them.
Chosen let out a small sigh.
"You are real, right?" He finally asked, gazing at Dark.
Dark rolled his eyes.
"Why wouldn't I be? I'm sitting right next to you, aren't I?"
Chosen hesistated, "I... I don't know."
Dark sat up abruptly, observing Chosen silently.
"What are you trying to tell me Cho?" Dark asked.
A beat passed.
"I thought... I thought you had died. That day..." Chosen muttered.
Dark looked at Chosen expectantly.
"What happened that day?"
Chosen shook his head quickly. "Nevermind. It was just a bad dream, Dark."
"Chosen..." Dark pressed.
"No. It doesn't matter. It wasn't real anyways." Chosen insisted, lying through gritted teeth.
Dark sighed, but he didn't probe further.
"Okay..."
Chosen held onto Dark's hand a little firmer, searching for his pulse.
Their hearts beat together for a quiet moment.
"I'm sorry, Dark." Chosen said.
Dark was taken aback, why was he saying sorry?
"For what..?"
"I'm sorry I betrayed your trust. I'm sorry for not trying hard enough to find you and..."
Chosen's voice faltered.
"...I'm sorry for being the reason you were created in the first place."
...
"Why are you apologising?" Dark finally asked.
"Because... I know I won't get to if I ever see you again."
Chosen gave Dark a weary smile.
"And... I want you to know that I do care."
Dark didn't reply, he ran a hand through his hair. "Cursors. Cho, I don't know what to say..."
Chosen adverted his gaze to the plain white wall.
"Just tell me that you'll forgive me." He muttered.
Dark squeezed Chosen's hand.
"I'll forgive you."
Chosen knew Dark wouldn't forgive him but... hearing it out loud tonight was more than enough.
The moon's light glistened through the window. It sparkled the same way Dark's eyes would when he would talk about his future projects.
In this sweet dream, Dark was alive. He would reply to Chosen's sarcasm with his own snarky remarks and the two of them would fly around destroying websites without a care in the world.
In this sweet dream, they sat beside one another on their stolen couch, hand in hand.
Just tonight, Chosen and Dark were still friends.
"Thank you." Chosen eventually said, breaking the silence.
Dark only nodded.
"And you said being sappy doesn't look good on me."
Chosen rolled his eyes. There was that sarcasm again.
"It really doesn't."
Chosen hated to admit it, but it was nice seeing that side of him every now and then.
Dark grinned.
"I'd argue with you, but I know you're always right."
A small smile tugged the corner of Chosen's lips, despite trying his best to suppress it.
"I know." Chosen said.
"You weren't supposed to agree!" Dark exclaimed.
"Well what was I supposed to say then?"
Dark rolled his eyes.
"You were supposed to say 'I'm not right all the time.'"
Chosen blinked in surprise.
"Okay, sure. I'm not right all the time." He sighed.
Dark glanced at Chosen for a long moment.
"Don't apologise for being the reason why I was created."
He paused.
"To be honest, I'm glad it was because of you."
Chosen's eyes met Dark's, their hands still intertwined.
A small smile painted his features.
"...I would choose you everytime." Chosen said, his voice just above whisper.
In this sweet dream, Dark really meant what he said.
