Work Text:
Damian hated his life. After injuring his spine on the job and permanently unable to continue his vigilante work in Gotham, he really didn't know what he was supposed to do with himself.
He liked to help out Barbara when he could, but a lot of days, he couldn't even get out of bed anymore. He just couldn't. And if he could get out of bed, he had trouble using his brain to think enough to be useful in the stressful situations the Bats always found themselves in. And he hated himself for that.
His only comfort was found in Jon. Jon didn't see him as less than or other, even after the debilitating symptoms started hurting him to the point where he couldn't move or think sometimes.
Today was one such day. Damian laid in bed, just waiting for the worst to pass. But it was so painful. He could barely even breathe. He was alone and in pain.
But maybe he could change the alone part.
"Jon," he whispered. It was barely audible. But hopefully it would do the job.
Three seconds later, Jon was slipping through the window. Damian breathed a sigh of relief. His husband was here.
"Dami," Jon said, and Damian didn't even have to look to hear the frown in his voice.
Damian just looked at him. He wasn't able to talk.
Jon sat on the edge of the bed. "Hey, baby. You want some cuddles?"
He nodded. Cuddling up with Jon was comforting. His familiar feel helped Damian feel so much more grounded. It gave him an anchor while he was tossing about on the waves of pain.
Jon kicked off his boots and settled underneath the comforter on the bed. He pulled Damian towards him and started purring, as Kryptonians are known to do sometimes.
Damian melted into the touch. The purring soothed him. Of course, Jon already knew this. That's why he did it.
Rubbing his tears off on Jon's shirt, Damian took a deep breath. The pain wasn't gone, but it was so much more manageable in Jon's arms.
"Hey, it's gonna be okay," Jon said as Damian wiped his tears. "You take your meds yet?"
Damian nodded weakly.
"Okay, good," he said, pulling Damian closer and threading his fingers through his hair. Damian loved when Jon did that. "You just focus on feeling better. I'll be here."
"I love you," Damian said. He said it so softly if Jon wasn't Kryptonian, he wouldn't have been able to hear it. Luckily, his husband was amazing and had super hearing.
Jon kissed the top of Damian's head. "I love you too. Now rest."
And Damian fell asleep contentedly in his husband's arms.
