Work Text:
Owen stared at the sign.
The sign Legundo left for him.
The sign that the doctor didn’t know was his fate being sealed.
It was done.
The doctor was now undead.
And Owen felt nothing.
Still nothing.
Louis, louis, louis. His unbeating heart chimed when reading the sign for what felt like the 100th time.
Owen finally walked away.
“The damned doctor is cursed, why can’t I just be happy about that? He was trying to take Louis from me again!” the lumberjack said to himself.
He was so much like Louis
His thoughts were then interrupted by-
Smoke.
Owen could smell smoke.
“No.” He whispered, suddenly out of breath.
He froze, black blood in his veins turning to ice.
Then Owen’s form became smaller. And smaller. He was a bat.
The vampire then flew as quickly as his wings could take him, until the town was in sight.
Owen perched on the town wall, petrified.
“Please! I swear it wasn’t me!” Louis Legundo screamed while being bound in silver by the remaining humans. “I would never hurt Pearl- Owen - . Cleo! Please!”
Cleo kneeled next to the bleeding form of Pearl, trying to patch her up. Refusing to look at the mayor doctor.
Owen’s eyes then caught onto the fire. The pyre. They were going to burn him.
Legundo yelled pleads as he was tied to the pyre, then-
He screamed.
The fire licked Louis and black spots started appearing along his skin. The vampiric healing tried to work but the fire overtook it.
Owen would wait no longer.
“LOUIS” Owen screamed, his mind stuck in the past as he fought past the townsfolk.
Owen didn’t know what he was doing. All he knew was fire was burning him it was so hot so hot burning burning-
The lumberjack pulled his sire fledgling off the pyre.
“Don’t you dare die. Not again not again.” Owen said as he laid the semi-conscious vampire on the ground.
Louis’s Legundo’s body was mangled, some by the fire and some by Owen himself when he turned to doctor.
But Legs opened his eyes. Any hint of the green in his irises long gone, replaced by crimson. So alike to louis’s
“Owen… what…?” Legundo managed to say.
Bloody tears started pouring out of Owen’s eyes and he hugged Legundo closer.
“I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.” The lumberjack whispered. “You were never trying to take him away. You were just so much like him I hated it. I don’t hate it though. I don’t hate you. I'm sorry.”
“What did you do?” Legundo said breathlessly, looking around.
“I saved you.”
Owen sobbed quietly, holding one of the only two people he cared about in his arms.
“Nothing else.”
The bloodied corpses of the townsfolk would say otherwise.
