Work Text:

Everyone always complains about their feet hurting after a day at Disney. Or maybe any amusement park, really. It’s just that Disney was the safest option—and most rationalized one—because of its enormous size.

Ha ha. Just like—

Kazuha shakes her head, not usually one to even consider those types of crude, teenager-esque jokes. She’s been hanging out with Eunchae and Chaewon too much lately. Sakura really had said it best. Those two bring out the mischief in each other. Or was it someone else that said it?

Who knows! And who cares honestly? The specifics weren’t that important. At least not for this. The point is that Chaewon and Eunchae are little troublemakers together. The kind of duo that could be put into an escape room and solve it, but not without treating the props like toys first. And their method of problem-solving would be far from conventional. It’s like they simultaneously lose and gain brain cells when together, being incredibly efficient but then cracking up at that’s what she said jokes in the dumbest of places.

Yeah, Kazuha’s seriously gotta take a step back or two.

(Not really. She loves them both to death. She does love her alone time too, though. So maybe it just depends on her mood.)

But the fact that their antics have bled into her eccentric mind, threatening a dirty joke in the middle of Disney World, is insane. And… honestly? Kind of amazing. It’s impressive, in a way. Like woah. Were they that influential? Or was Kazuha just incredibly receptive?

It’d make sense. She’s always been a people pleaser, and she surmises a big part of that is going with the flow. The flow of plans, of humor, of discussions, etc etc.

She’s getting better, though. Really. Being adaptable was not inherently a bad thing. But it did make her end up in all sorts of tiny situations that could have easily been avoided. Things like disliking her own outfit, or eating food she doesn’t particularly like, or sleeping in an uncomfortable place. Things with feasible solutions. Things that would be swept away if she just stood her ground and said how she felt.

You know who’s really good at doing that?

The girl standing right in front of Kazuha right now, long blonde hair bobbing softly while she bounds forward to order a soft pretzel in the shape of Mickey Mouse.

A soft pretzel with a fucking $10 price tag, but Yunjin simply can’t resist it and absolutely has to have it, because His ears are just so cuuuuttteee! and C’mon guys. Who knows how long it’ll be ‘til we’re back here?

She always was the one to seize the moment when she felt like it, no matter how small.

Kazuha chuckles to herself, leaning her weight on one of the park’s lampposts while she and the others wait for Yunjin to pay.

The blonde girl is chit-chatting with the employee, exchanging pleasant small talk while she digs through her purse for her wallet. She has some American cash in there, and her card had been bugging out all day when she tried to pay with her phone.

Kazuha watches the older girl’s movements, noting the way her forehead creases and her demeanor slides into slightly frantic.

“Sorry,” Yunjin gives the worker an apologetic smile, prying her purse’s pocket more open and earnestly digging through.

Of course this happens to her in the middle of a crowded theme park in the boiling sun. Where the fuck was her—

Beeeep.

Yunjin is brought out of her predicament when she hears the familiar shrill chime of the register’s tap-to-pay option.

She blinks, brown eyes ladled with curiosity upon the culprit.

Kazuha stands there, tucking her phone back into her pocket and offering a shy and smiley “Thank you” to the cashier.

Yunjin blinks again, lips pursing into a small kissy face of wonder mixed with a grin.

“Sorry, unnie. You were taking too long.” The Japanese girl says, picking up Yunjin’s pretzel and leading them out of the line.

Yunjin scoffs, making a faux-offended noise and swatting at Kazuha’s arm.

“Rude.” She pouts, taking her pretzel and melting at the sight of Kazuha's giggle.

“Thank you, though. That was so embarrassing. I don’t know why purses always do that.” Yunjin mutters, a slight flush of embarrassment creeping onto her face.

“Don’t worry, it happens to me too.” Kazuha reassures her. “Last time, I had some spare change I wanted to get rid of, and it took me forever to get it out of my bag. Then I dropped it all and it was so loud. And there was a line behind me too.”

Yunjin can’t help it. Kazuha winces hard at the memory and closes her eyes, pinching the bridge of her nose for dramatic effect. It makes the older girl burst into a full laugh, and she does that thing where she grips Kazuha by the bicep and rattles her, making Kazuha giggle too.

“Unnieeee! Don’t laugh at me! That’s so mean!” She huffs, not looking at all bothered, but rather just adorably childish.

“I just paid for your snack, you know!” She frowns.

Yunjin bites her lip, forcing her giggles to subside.

“Okay, okay. You know what? You’re totally right. Sorry, Zuha-ya.” Her voice almost wavers with remnants of her laughter, but she manages to get through, even though she knows they are being fully playful.

“Thank you again. I’ll pay you back, I promise.” She loops her arm through Kazuha’s while they keep walking. “The next thing you wanna get, it’s on me.”

Kazuha is waving her off before Yunjin can even finish her sentence.

“No, no. It’s okay, unnie. Really.” She dismisses. “You don’t have to get me anything.”

Ever the gallant one. Kazuha was the ultimate girl crush just by being adorable and chivalrous at the same time.

Yunjin bumps their shoulders together.

“What a gentlewoman.” She purrs coyly. “You’re gonna make me blush.”

Kazuha makes that cute little face she always does when she’s hiding a big, shy smile.

“Well…” She mumbles bashfully. “Good!…?”

The word is enthusiastic, and then last-minute sounds like a question. Almost as if she’s saying I want to make you blush!!! You know… if that’s okay with you…?

And she can barely look Yunjin in the eye while she says this, and her silky flimsy white top looks so much like something that Yunjin would buy, that Yunjin can’t think of her as anything but perfect.

“You’re so cute, Zuha-ya.” She damn-near pouts. “How about I pay you back by letting you have a bite?” She offers out the pretzel to the younger girl.

Kazuha blushes, butterflies throwing a party inside her stomach at the fleeting compliment.

She nibbles on the snack, reasoning it’d be good to have something that chases the butterflies down.

***

No one really prepares you for the kind of heat Florida brings. It’s not a regular kind of hot; it’s a humid kind. The kind that feels like you slathered a thick layer of lotion on and walked outside. Balmy, and it doesn’t go away.

The good thing is that the sun is on its last hour or so before being completely gone, painting the Magic Kingdom in a golden-hour glow. They’ve been taking pictures for a little while now, mainly because Chaewon is incredibly picky and Yunjin won’t give up until she thinks it’s perfect, too.

Eunchae sighs boredly from her spot in between her unnies, switching over from bugging Sakura to now target Kazuha instead.

She drops her chin onto Kazuha’s shoulder, sighing again just for the fun of it.

“You’ve been staring at Yunjin-unnie for like ten years now.” She deadpans. “God, just kiss her already.”

Kazuha’s eyes widen, shoulders immediately squaring as her face burns furiously and she whips around to look at Eunchae.

“W-what?” She stammers. “I-... N-no I’m not! I’m not staring!”

Eunchae snorts, rolling her eyes with playful ease. “Sureeeee.” She replies. “Seriously, Zuha-unnie. I saw the way you were drooling when she was posing for pictures. Just tell her you think she’s pretty! If you do it during the fireworks, she’ll probably cry and kiss you on the spot. You know how emotional she gets.”

Kazuha sputters, the thought of a first kiss beneath the fireworks tickling the romance-movie part of her.

“I was not drooling!” She protests, though she knows damn well she’s lying.

But really. How was it her fault Yunjin looked so pretty under the sun? The way the sunlight hit her made her look magical, not just because they were at Disney World or anything. She just looked so radiant. Especially with her blonde hair. God, she looked like a real-life angel. She looked like she was glowing, even more so when she smiled.

“Either you tell her, or I will.” Eunchae tsks. “I’m tired of seeing you two act like losers around each other. It’s always me in the crossfire!”

“Crossfire of what?”

Kazuha nearly jumps, startled out of the conversation by Yunjin’s innocent question. It seems like she and Chaewon are done taking pictures, the leader slightly busy while she talks to their manager.

“Oh, hey Yunjin-unnie.” Eunchae replies, unfazed. “We were just talking about how we hope we don't get split up during the rides since we’re an uneven group. I don’t wanna sit in the middle of two strangers, especially if it’s a couple. I saw one fighting earlier, so that’d be super awkward to have to sit in between them, you know?”

Yunjin laughs, agreeing with Eunchae and adding some remarks of her own. Kazuha doesn’t pay much attention to it, too preoccupied with her own panic. But damn, Eunchae was a great liar.

“Yeah.” Eunchae smiles. “Anyway, we should probably keep walking. Manager-nim said we have a reservation at some restaurant for dinner. I’m starving.”

She takes a step to walk away, then turns back around.

“Oh, and Yunjin-unnie? Zuha-unnie thinks you’re really pretty. She couldn’t stop staring at you while you were taking pictures. I think she wants you to be her girlfriend.” She punctuates her sentence with an innocent smile, as if she has no idea what she has just done, and then she walks away.

Kazuha freezes, the panic in her body going into maximum overload to the point where she locks up. Her eyes are comically wide, looking frantically at Yunjin.

The older girl has a sparkly look in her eye, her mouth dropped into a slight ‘O’ shape of surprise.

She turns to look at Kazuha, eyebrow lifting in question.

“Unnie, I-....” Kazuha begins fumbling for an explanation. “I d-... oh my god…”

Her hands are flailing, body frantically searching for some way to spit out the words she’s trying so hard to think of.

“I d-didn’t say that at all… I mean! I don’t… not want that… but that’s not the point! Of course I think you’re pretty, and-... she- Eunchae’s just trying to humiliate me, b-but… I wasn’t staring. I mean, I’m not like a weird guy or anything! And… gosh, I’m s-sorry, Yunjin-unnie. I’m so, so sorry, because this is so awkward and I feel so stupid and I don’t wanna make you uncomfortable, and—”

Kazuha is cut off by Yunjin stepping close to her and hugging her neck, holding one side of her face then leaning in to press a big kiss to her cheek. It leaves the faintest shape of a mark, with remnants of Yunjin’s lip tint.

Kazuha freezes again, though this time for a very different reason. She feels like one of those cartoon anime characters with the pink blush lines and giant puppy eyes.

She turns to look at Yunjin, blinking up at her and absently hugging her waist.

Yunjin giggles at Kazuha’s reaction, finding the Japanese girl so unbelievably endearing right now.

She presses another kiss to Kazuha’s cheek.

“I think you’re pretty too, Zuha-ya.” She whispers. “Don’t worry. I stare all the time.”

She undoes her hold around Kazuha’s neck, looping their arms together again but this time also holding Kazuha’s hand.

“Sit next to me at dinner. We can take selfies.”

Kazuha swallows a butterfly knot, a big smile etching onto her face.

“O-okay…” She accepts shyly, still recovering from two cheek kisses from her crush.

Eunchae watches them from a little ways away, grinning with victory.

Idiots.
