Morning After

Summary:

A storm keeps you from going home.

A sleepy Felix convinces you to stay for breakfast.

One plate of chocolate chip pancakes later, he's already asking if you'll stay for lunch, too.

Flufftober Day 4 - Alt 7: “Stay?”

Work Text:

The storm had sounded much worse than it actually was. At least, that was what you told yourself when you woke sometime after midnight to the sound of rain tapping steadily against Felix's bedroom window. You'd only meant to stay until the worst of it passed. That had been the plan.

You'd come over in the evening, intending to spend a few hours together before driving home. Then the rain had started. Then the wind picked up. Then Felix had looked at you with those impossibly soft eyes and told you there was no way he was letting you drive home in that.

So you'd stayed.

Somewhere between watching movies under a blanket, stealing handfuls of popcorn from Felix's bowl, and falling asleep against his shoulder, you'd apparently made your way into his bed.

You weren't entirely sure when that happened. You were very sure you didn't regret it, especially not when you woke to warmth. A lot of warmth.

You blinked sleepily, staring at the pale morning light spilling through the curtains. Then you felt the arm around your waist.

Felix, still asleep. His face was tucked against the back of your neck, his hair an absolute mess against your cheek. One arm was wrapped securely around your middle, while one leg was tangled lazily with yours beneath the blankets.

You smiled as you carefully shifted an inch. Felix immediately tightened his hold. You froze.

A sleepy sound escaped him. “Mm…”

“Felix?”

He didn't answer, instead, he buried his face a little more firmly against your neck.

You laughed quietly. “Are you awake?”

“No.”

“You're talking.”

“Still no.” His voice was rough with sleep.

You smiled wider. “Okay.” You tried to move again.

His arm tightened. “No.”

“You can't just trap me here.”

“I can.”

“You're asleep.”

“Exactly.”

You giggled, reaching up to run your fingers through his messy hair, his expression softened even though his eyes remained closed, then he pressed a sleepy kiss against the side of your neck.

Your fingers paused.

Felix hummed contentedly. “Morning,” he murmured.

You turned your head slightly. “Good morning.”

Another kiss, this one just beneath your ear. “Morning.”

“You already said that,” you smiled.

“Wanted to say it again,” his voice was barely above a whisper.

You turned carefully in his arms until you were facing him. Felix opened his eyes just enough to look at you. His hair was sticking up in every direction and there was a faint crease from the pillow across his cheek. Yet somehow, he looked ridiculously adorable.

“You're staring,” he mumbled.

“You're cute.”

He immediately pulled the blanket higher over his face.

“Don't hide,” you giggled.

“Too early.”

“You've been awake for at least five minutes.”

“That's basically noon.”

You gently tugged the blanket down.

Felix peeked at you, then he smiled, that soft, sleepy smile that made your chest ache.

“Hi.”

“Hi.” He reached for you without another word. His arms slipped around your waist again, pulling you against his chest until your cheek rested over his heartbeat. You settled there willingly.

For several minutes, neither of you said anything.

The storm had passed yet rain still dripped from the gutters outside, but the world felt strangely quiet. Felix traced lazy circles against your back.

“You sleep okay?”

“Mhm.”

“Good.”

“You?”

He nodded. “Best I've slept in a while.”

You lifted your head. “Really?”

He looked at you. “Yeah.”

There was something about the way he said it that made your teasing smile fade into something softer.

“You make it easy to sleep.”

You brushed a strand of hair away from his forehead. “That's because you were practically crushing me.”

“I was not.”

“You absolutely were.”

“Maybe a little.”

“A lot.”

Felix grinned, then he leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead. “Still sorry.”

“You don't sound sorry.”

“I'm not.”

You laughed softly. Eventually, you managed to convince him to get out of bed. That turned out to be significantly harder than expected. Felix followed you into the hallway wearing an oversized sweatshirt and sweatpants, his hair still hopelessly messy. He looked half asleep as he shuffled toward the kitchen. You stopped when you noticed your bag sitting near the front door.

“Oh.”

Felix followed your gaze, his expression changed ever so slightly.

You walked over and picked it up.

“I should probably head home.”

Felix didn't answer immediately. He was standing in the middle of the kitchen, looking at you.

“Already?”

You smiled apologetically.

“It's morning.”

“Exactly.”

“You have schedules.”

“Not for a while.”

“And I have things to do.”

“I know.” His shoulders dropped.

You hadn't expected that reaction.

“Felix…”

He looked down, then, almost as though he'd made a decision, he walked toward you. Before you could ask what he was doing, his arms slipped around your waist from behind, his chin settled on your shoulder.

You smiled despite yourself. “You're doing that thing again.”

“What thing?”

“The clingy thing.”

“I'm not clingy.”

“You're literally holding me hostage.”

“I'm asking you to stay,” he stated softly.

You rested your hands over his arms. “For how long?”

He thought about it. “Breakfast.”

You laughed. “That's it?”

He nodded. “Breakfast.”

“You're making breakfast?”

“Mhm.”

“What are you making?”

“Pancakes.”

You turned your head enough to look at him. “Pancakes?”

“With chocolate chips.”

“You're bribing me.”

“Maybe.” His lips brushed your neck, a soft kiss. Then another.

You felt yourself melt against him. “Felix.”

“Stay for breakfast.”

You turned around inside his arms, his hands stayed around your waist. When you looked at him, his cheeks were slightly pink.

“You really want me to stay?”

He nodded. “I like having you here.”

Your heart gave a little flutter. “Just for breakfast?”

His eyes flickered toward your lips before returning to your eyes. “Maybe…” He hesitated, looking at you softly. “Maybe I don't really want you to leave yet.”

“Why didn't you just say that?” you smiled.

“Because it's embarrassing.”

You laughed softly.

“It's cute.”

“It's not cute.”

“It is.”

He leaned down and kissed your cheek, then the corner of your mouth, then your forehead. Finally, he tucked his face into the curve of your neck again.

“Please?”

You closed your eyes. There was no way you were saying no.

“Okay.”

Felix immediately brightened.

“Okay?”

“Okay.”

He pulled you into a tight hug, mumbling a small ‘yay’ into your neck.

You laughed against his shoulder. “You're ridiculous.”

“I know.” He kissed your neck again.

“Pancakes?”

“Pancakes.”

He finally let you go, for approximately thirty seconds, then you felt his arms wrap around your waist again from behind while you stood beside the counter.

“Felix.”

“What?”

“You're supposed to be making pancakes.”

“I am.”

“You're hugging me.”

“I can multitask.”

“You're not even holding the spatula.”

He glanced down. “Oh.”

You laughed as he reluctantly released you. He turned back toward the stove, and you watched him begin making pancakes. Every few minutes, he'd glance over his shoulder. Every time your eyes met, he'd smile.

Eventually, he brought the first plate over. He placed it in front of you with an exaggerated flourish.

“Breakfast.”

You looked down. A stack of slightly uneven pancakes sat on the plate, covered in strawberries, powdered sugar, and far too many chocolate chips.

You looked up. “You made all this?”

Felix shrugged. “I wanted it to be good.”

“It is good.”

“You haven't tasted it.”

“I can tell.”

He smiled as you took a bite.

His eyes immediately widened. “Well?”

You chewed, pretending to think. “Hmm…”

“Don't do that.”

“It's perfect,” you laugh.

“Really?” His entire face lit up.

“Really.”

He leaned over and kissed your cheek. “Good.”

You looked at him. “You know…I could get used to mornings like this.”

Felix went very still then he smiled.“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

He reached across the table and took your hand, his thumb brushed slowly across your knuckles. “I could too.” The words were quiet, almost shy.

When you finished breakfast and started gathering your things again, he didn't even pretend not to notice. He simply walked over, wrapped both arms around your waist, and rested his chin on your shoulder.

“You could stay for lunch.”

“Felix,” you laughed.

“I'm serious.”

“Then what happens after lunch?”

He thought for a moment. “Dinner?”

“And after dinner?”

His cheeks turned pink. He pressed a soft kiss beneath your ear. “Breakfast tomorrow?”

You turned around in his arms. “Are you asking me to stay the night again?”

“Maybe.”

“You could just ask.”

“Stay?” he asked with a smile.

You leaned up and kissed his cheek. “Yeah.”

“Good.” His arms tightened around you, and pressed another sleepy kiss to your neck. “Because I wasn't ready to say good morning without you.”
