Peter's vision was blurry as he blinked awake, groaning at the steady ache in all of his joints, the back of his head, and pretty much his whole body really. He looked around pathetically, registering that he didn't recall getting home from patrol. If he had passed out in an alleyway AGAIN, Tony would kill him.
It was certainly dark, damp and dirty enough to be an alleyway, but the lack of a sky, or any way in or out pretty quickly told him he was in a room of some kind. Looking down to assess his body for damage, he saw his slowly numbing wrists tied tightly by rope.
With a sharp jerk, he snapped his wrists away from each other, expecting the rope to break – He'd broken much thicker ropes in the Avengers gym while testing his strength at Bucky and Steve's insistence and encouragement. This rope though, despite being far thinner and looking far weaker, held firm.
That was fine. That was fine. He just had to remember Nat's instructions. She had trained him well in how to escape binds, and he'd always been naturally good at it, likely helped his spider side which had made him obnoxiously flexible. He twisted this wrists, tugged at the ropes, pulled gently, then harsher, then gently again. Nothing. Despite all his training with Nat and Bucky and Steve, the rope was defeating him. That was fine. Maybe the rope was enchanted, but Peter doubted the wall where it was attached was. He knew he was strong enough to rip out parts of the wall, had done it on multiple occasions, most of them accidental. So he tugged, pulled, snapped, dragged, used every trick in the book. Nothing. He was trapped. Why? How? It made no sense. It made absolutely no sense. He was strong enough to escape being pinned by both Bucky and Steve at once, was strong enough to hold up an airplane carrier or a warehouse or pull a boat back together. Surely he could break out of some measly ropes!
He blinked quickly, forcing back the tears that were blurring his vision, but the motion didn't help, didn't change the way the world blurred in front of him. He reached up to his eyes, testing for any wetness but they were dry, for now at least. He started to shake as he realised several things in quick succession. One, his super strength wasn’t working, two, his vision was blurry much like it had been before the bite, three, everything was far too quiet, and maybe it wasn’t that there was nothing nearby to make sounds, maybe it was just that his hearing wasn’t as strong as he normally was.
His breaths came in hard and fast as he whipped his head around, searching desperately for anything that might help him get out of here, might help him escape. He just wanted his powers back. He couldn’t go back to being normal after all he got to do as Spiderman. He couldn’t lose that freedom. He couldn't. He couldn’t. He couldn’t!
"Well, well, well, hello there, Peter Parker," A voice snickered, cutting through Peter's sobbing panic. His head shot up and quickly his vision, blurry as it was, landed on the figure in front of him. He should have heard the man enter, should be able to hear his heart beating, should be able to sense if he was going to hurt him. The room felt painfully, unnaturally silent, finally broken by the man speaking once more, "Here's what's going to happen. We are going to break you down until you would never even consider leaving. We are going to make you forget anything except us. We are going to strip away your old name and life. We are going to turn you into Asset Atrax. We are going to make sure you know exactly who you belong to, and then, only then, will you get your powers back, but only to work for us. Hail Hydra."
"Never," Peter snapped, twisting in his binds, desperate to break free and launch himself at the asshole who dared suggest he would ever be one of them.
"Oh, but my lovely asset, you belong to me now, you don't get a choice in the matter," The man snickered, clicking his fingers. As if on cue, three guards appeared, two gripping Peter's shoulders and arms, dragging him onto his knees and shoving him forwards in a bow that he fought desperately against. He tried to bite at the hands holding him, and it quickly became apparent that the third guard's job was exclusively to prevent exactly that, rough hands gripping his head and forcing it to bow as well. Peter spat and struggled, yelling furious insults and snarling promises that he would never ever break for them. The man who was clearly in charge just chuckled, stepping closer. "Look at me, Asset."
Peter fought the hands that dragged his head up but there wasn’t much he could do. He lacked his super strength and there was no chance he could fight off the three huge men holding him. He met the eyes of the asshole leader, fury and hatred flashing through him.
"You WILL obey, or you will regret it, understood?"
"Fuck. You." Peter spat back, instantly receiving a sharp painful slap across his face. He glared through it, refusing to show any sign of pain. It was far from the worst thing he'd ever felt.
"Watch your tongue, Asset," The man warned, voice low, though Peter ignored any danger in it. The man's voice couldn't possibly hold more danger than Bucky's and he had withstood that. The man stepped forwards, cupping Peter's cheek with fake care. If it weren't for the guard holding his head still, Peter would have bitten the bitch. As it was, he was forced to stay still as the hand moved to tighten around his neck. Panic rose for a second, not ready to fight for breath, but the man didn't choke him, he just squeezed, then slackened again and wrapped something tight around Peter's neck. Numbly, he recognised the item for what it was. A collar.
"I'll kill you," Peter hissed as the guards quickly stepped away, leaving Peter with the asshole. Almost as soon as the words left his mouth, a sickening burn shot through his neck and he screamed, his body convulsing twice before the pain shut off again and he was heaving for air.
"I would advise against threatening your handler, or any of your superiors for that matter."
"Fuck you," Peter hissed back, refusing to let this so called "handler" think he would break easily. He wouldn't. Tony would come for him. The Avengers would come for him. All he had to do was hold out that long. He would not crack. Pain shot through him, making his back arch and his limbs spasm aggressively as he fell, the agony continuing for several brutal seconds before shutting off once more, leaving him with a strange tingling sensation.
