Work Text:
Leon had saved up for months. His money, obviously, putting money aside every day, just in case. His days off, carefully in the attendance sheets so he could take them whenever he could. And then his hopes.
Carefully packed in his chest pocket, right next to his heart where she was taking more and more place.
He had first noticed how expensive her dress and coat must have been. Well no, first of all he had noticed how bright her eyes were, looking at him like he was nothing more than dirt under her high heels.
“Ma’am… You should not drive with those,” he had sighed as he scrambled something on the bill - he was too nervous to write anything down honestly.
Maybe it was linked to her name, that he was desperately trying to grave in his brain. Or the big FBI letters shining on the paper.
“Look, I did what you asked. Pulled over, did the ethylotest… Can I go now ?,” she had sighed.
Leon had looked up at her. Totally lost.
“Huh… Hum…”
He had forgotten the procedure. What was he supposed to do for a speed ticket ? Did the FBI even got a speed ticket ? Was he allowed to put a speed ticket to a FBI agent without loosing his job ?
“Huh yeah, you can go. If you are careful with those heels-,” she was already back in the car.
Leon tapped on the window.
“-and if you give me your number.”
She had looked surprised, hands still on her keys. And then the seconds kept ticking back, and Leon had started to think she was going to report him for harassment. Which would not be a surprise, because using his position to get something was totally it. But she was FBI, so wasn’t she his superior ?
He should have just given her that speed ticket.
“...Don’t push it, rookie.”
He had frowned, then wrote down his number on the speed ticket.
“Right, sorry.”
He gave her right before she closed the window and left, way too fast and probably still wearing her heels. And Leon had went back to his patrol car with a sigh, thinking that if he did that with every pretty girl he met, he had chosen the wrong career.
Two weeks later, he was already thinking of his resignation letter and what path he could still take at twenty one years old - he was only seeing army, which was definitely not his first choice - when his phone rang.
“Yeah ?,” he answered with a raspy voice.
“You don’t seem eager, rookie.”
He sat down on his bed, holding the phone like it could explode.
“...Wong ?,” he asked carefully.
-...Yeah,” she answered, and he could hear a smile in her voice.
His heart beat faster as he gripped the phone tighter. Just one minute, just one second of the pretty girl talking in his ear.
“Am I fired ?”
He wanted to make her laugh. He earned a chuckle. Victory.
“No. Except if you did that with other girls after me ?
-No. No, of course not-
-Then… We can talk. If you want to. What’s your name ?, she asked in a soft tone he wanted to hear more of.
-It’s… On the speed ticket you probably did not pay,” he chuckled, settling in his bed.
She giggled in the phone, and his brain immediately started to think of other ways to hear that sound from her.
“You got me there.
-It’s Leon. Leon Kennedy.
-Well, Leon, I am not often in Raccoon City but next time… I could phone you and we could meet ?”
His heart beat faster. Oh, he never went that far with a girl… He had no experience from there.
“Yes ! I mean, yeah, if you want that would… That would be great,” he said, trying desperately to sound just a tiny bit more nonchalant.
“Great. I’ll let you know. Bye, Leon.
-Bye, Ada.”
He had waited for months. Truly. Made sure he could be free as soon as she asked. Maybe he was a bit desperate, especially for someone he had met five minutes a few months ago.
He knew that, of course. Perfectly aware of it.
But still, he was on the mall’s parking five minutes in advance. With fresh flowers and his blue shirt - the one that brightened his eyes, pacing the parking and hoping… That maybe she would be here today.
In heels, maybe. Oh the thought alone made him blush-
“Hey”
Her heels clicked on the ground as she approached him. She was… Smaller than him, he noticed. Not that he minded.
“Hey. Hum, this is for you,” he stood awkwardly, handing her the flowers.
She smiled. Or was it a smirk ? He was not sure. He liked both.
“Thank you, Leon. It’s nice of you. Very knight in shining armor.
-Oh, it’s nothing…” He answered, flattered.
She shook her head, and they walked inside. The mall was filled with people on this Saturday, and yet she was keeping her sunglasses.
Leon followed her as they walked. Should he buy her a drink ? Ask what store she wanted to visit ? Choose himself ?
Why was going out with a girl so difficult ? It necessitated a lot of logistics he did not think off…
While Leon was overthinking, Ada kneeled in front of the pet shop. A puppy was playing with its tail, eagerly bouncing against the window to lick at her hand’s reflection.
It was not natural. In fact, it seemed a bit weird, even for himself, but Leon was practically sure he felt jealous of the puppy.
“Puppies are so cute. I wish I had time to take care of one,” Ada said, getting back up as the puppy kept jumping on the other side.
“You know I am… A bit like one. Except I can feed myself,” Leon said nonchalantly.
Ada laughed out loud.
“I don’t know if it is supposed to be reassuring,” she smiled as they started to walk.
“Well… The difference between me and a dog is… I am taller. Think about it,” Leon said, playing with his button shirt.
