The advantage of being Yagami Light’s little sister is that you are constantly surrounded by the nicest and prettiest girls alive. The drawback? They all come for your perfect brother, not you.
All of Sayu’s first crushes were ruined by that silly reason. And she was not at fault, really. She just couldn't help herself around beautiful girls like those!
There was the first and most unforgettable—Yuri, the girl with cute doe eyes and puffy hair.
When Sayu realized she had forgotten her wallet home way too late in a sunny day, Yuri magically appeared and paid for her ice cream without hesitation. Then she offered Sayu the most gorgeous smile known to mankind, asked if she was Light's sister and even talked to her! Yuri had a decent fashion taste and such pleasant talking style that made Sayu giggling at every line (or was that because of something else?) The 14-year-old girl felt like she was floating on her way home that day—who wouldn't? Having been approached by such sweet girl that paid for your ice cream!
That night, Sayu discovered something new about herself; and she thought she would embrace herself that way. Sayu was dreaming about how their first daughter would be named Sayuri when the sound of light's mobile default ringtone interrupted her thoughts. Sayu winced, thinking about how thin the walls were in her house as her brother picked up the mobile; and a familiar voice knocked her out immediately.
"Hey Light!"
It was Yuri's. Sayu knew it wasn't going to be good.
"Hello, Yuri." She could hear her brother answer; his voice was so uninterested that even the most hopeful girl on Earth would give up after hearing it. "What are you calling me for?"
"Nothing important, really." A faint sound of chuckle. "It's just, I met your sister Sayu this afternoon. And I think you would want to make sure to remind her to bring her wallet next time!"
Yuri was even more than just hopeful; Sayu quietly decided as she started to realize what all of this meant.
Do you know how a cracking heart sounds like? Sayu didn't, because the sound of her sobbing had covered all of it.
And there was Mayu, the young lady with fair skin and beautiful curly hair that impressed Sayu at the sight of it.
They met at the local amusement park, when Sayu had to go alone because her friends were all busy. She asked if Sayu was Light's sister, offered to play a lot of games with her and insisted on paying for all of them. Never had the little girl met someone that attractive and outgoing—that successfully brought a strange yet familiar feeling to her heart.
Sayu had fallen into the trap once; she knew better than to have fallen for it again. So she did what she knew Mayu would like her to: speaking positive things about the yound lady in front of her brother.
The next day, she saw Light hanging out with Mayu. Damn, she knew it!
Then there was the last, and also very thrilling one—Misa.
It didn't start as a celebrity crush like people might imagine. Instead, she only started having a crush on the blonde after her third visit to the Yagami household.
She was insanely pretty—that was no doubt, Misa Misa was a supermodel after all. They spent an afternoon talking and laughing together while Light was busy doing something in his room. Not to exaggerate, they have basically everything in common—favourite pastry, favourite takoyaki flavour, favourite genres of film and their love for fashion. Maybe the only one thing that made them different was that Misa didn't really like Ryuga Hideki—that saddened Sayu a bit, but she was grateful enough for having such a pleasant afternoon. And her heart was racing, she knew this was dangerous.
But Light had said he didn't like girls like Misa, so maybe she still had a chance?
She knew it! Misa had officially become Light's girlfriend and potential fiancée now. How could she be so stupid after all the traps?!
That being said, Yagami Sayu loves being Yagami Light's little sister, but hates it at the same time. At least she knows for sure that he wouldn't pull Ryuga Hideki.
