The late autumn breeze was crisp and cold as Jihoon walked down the street, looking around the cozy neighbourhood, his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his oversized, beige coat whilst a warm scarf was wrapped around his neck. He entered a flower shop, shooting a sunny beam at the cashier who welcomed him before turning his attention to the colorful flowers that were neatly lined up before him. There were a variety; roses, tulips, orchards. But Jihoon’s hand immediately reached for the bouquet of pink lilies, the sweet aroma instantly hitting his nostrils.
He walked up to the cashier with much lighter steps. “I’ll take this, please,” he smiled. The cashier nodded, then took the bouquet from Jihoon’s hands.
“Perhaps for a lover?” she asked, smiling. Jihoon’s face melted into a grin, his cheeks all red and warm against the chilly air. “Yes,” he whispered shyly, making the cashier let out a chuckle.
“You couples are very sweet. Hope you have a nice day, son,” she waved Jihoon a goodbye before Jihoon bowed and disappeared down the street. He walked down the familiar buildings of the neighbourhood again, the bouquet’s wrap rustling in his hand.
I can’t wait to see Kyungmin’s reaction when I give him this. He smiled at the thought of his boyfriend’s face lighting up when Jihoon would give him the bouquet later that day.
So, whilst he and Kyungmin were laying on the rooftop of Jihoon’s house, Jihoon couldn’t help but fidget with his fingers out of nervousness. He turned to Kyungmin, whose face was illuminated by the orange rays of the sunset, his gaze locked onto the flaring sun before him. The golden sunlight highlighted the curve of his jaw, the sparkle in his eyes, and some strands of hair that were flowing with the breeze. Jihoon watched as his boyfriend exhaled through his mouth, causing a faint mist to float, but it disappeared as quick as it appeared.
Jihoon pursed his lips. “Kyungmin-ah,” he called, making the boy turn to him with a hum as a response. He slowly handed the bouquet of white lilies that he had been hiding for a while now and he couldn’t fight back the grin when Kyungmin’s face lit up, his mouth gaping.
“No way,” Kyungmin exhaled.
Jihoon could feel his blazing hot cheeks and ears. “Happy anniversary, love. I love you so much.”
Kyungmin squealed, jumping over to wrap his arms around Jihoon’s neck, pulling him tight. Jihoon, grinning, hugged his boyfriend back warmly. “I love you so much, love. You’re the best,” Kyungmin chuckled. He pulled away just enough to see Jihoon’s flaring red cheeks(to that, he grinned even more), and planted a quick peck on his lips, still smiling like an idiot.
Jihoon couldn’t help but chuckle awkwardly at the kiss, head lowering to hide how red and stupid he probably looked. “I love you too,” he grinned, all smile lines and shiny rows of teeth.
That night, whilst the two of them were bundled up on the couch watching a movie, Kyungmin sang with his sweet, soothing voice and played with Jihoon’s knuckles. “Smoking cigarettes on the roof. You look so pretty and I—,” he suddenly yawned, drowsiness stirring behind his eyes. To that, Jihoon chuckled fondly, kissing Kyungmin’s forehead.
“Go to sleep, love,” he whispered.
Kyungmin obeyed like a little kid and drifted into a deep slumber, tangled in Jihoon’s warm embrace amidst the cool autumn weather, the chatters of the TV fading as he fell asleep.
And just like that, a few hours later, Jihoon also fell asleep in the warmth of Kyungmin’s body against his, snoring faintly, their chests falling into a steady rhythm.
We fell in love in october;
That’s why I love fall.
