Work Text:

Sylas blinked and was in the world. It had gotten reset. Which meant that Twixxel died. Which meant it had failed. Again.

They felt so exhausted. They needed a break. They couldn't do this for eternity how much longer would it be until it was? Certainly not too long.

He just wanted Twixxel to be safe again. He couldn't remember the last time he was. It has gone on for far too long. But at least only one of them had to remember what's happened.

It couldn't bare it if Twixxel had to experience this over and over as well. But could it bare experiencing it either?

They buried their head in its hands, leaning against a nearby tree. They pressed themself harshly against the tree. They knew that their suit would get scratched up from this, but they didn't care. It would get reset next time anyway.

Sylas began to shake slightly, shoulders jerking inwards as he curled inwards slightly. He didn't know what was really happening, but supposed he was crying.

And that suspicion was soon confirmed when tears began to stream down their face and down their hands, soaking their coat. Nothing was different from the last loop, so they didn't know why it was affecting them so.

Small, scratchy staticy sobs began to form. He didn't think that Twixxel would be able to hear him, but he didn't really know. Maybe he wanted Twixxel to hear him.

It dropped to the ground, bringing it's knees close to it. It buried it's face in its knees and wrapped its arms around them. It felt small, but then it really matched it's level of ability.

After all, a stronger entity would've gotten out of the timeloop already. A stronger entity never would've gotten stuck. But he wasn't.

It wasn't sure how long it sat there (Maybe a few hours?) but it had long since lost the energy to even cry. it heard footsteps approaching it. They were slow, and it knew it had been seen. It wasn't worried though, it was Twixxel after all.

They picked their head off their knees and met Twixxel's eyes. He looked... Disturbed? Confused, definitely. Worried? It was a new expression that Sylas hadn't seen yet anyhow.

"...Hey? You... Doin' alright there?" Twixxel asked, tail flicking nervously.

Sylas watched him for a bit, then shakes his head.

"Do you want like... A hug or something?"

Sylas nodded their head.

Twixxel approached Sylas and leaned down, and wrapped his arms  around it. Immediately it leaned into Twixxel and whined, a small, pathetic sound that hurt Twixxel's heart as soon as he heard it.

Twixxel began to slowly rub his back and Sylas grabbed onto Twixxel's jacket. Eventually, Salad's tiredness overcame him and he shut his eyes and went to sleep.

It knew that Twixxel was going to die in a few hours, but it needed the break, the comfort. After all, it's already done this over a hundred times.
