Work Text:
The sun beat down on Joke’s dark scales as he soared across the desert. It was hot. Too hot. And his wings were exhausted. Joke had decided he did not like the desert. it was too hot, and plants were scarce. It reminded him of the volcano too much for his liking.
Spotting a cave, the nightwing dove towards the entrance. It wasn't very large, but at least it was out of the sun, and Joke was too tired to care about much more than that. He curled up against the cool stone, trying his best to fall asleep.
After lying there for what seemed like centuries, Joke was startled by the sound of claws on stone and by the breeze of dragon wings. He looked up lazily, and standing at the cave’s open mouth was none other than Dagger, his awful icewing rival who he hated. He was probably going to kill Joke, but he could hardly worry about that through his sheer exhaustion.
“Well if it isn't my favorite dragon!” Dagger chirped with mock enthusiasm. Joke huffed with annoyance in response. The icewing waltzed over to where Joke laid, and sat next to him. “If you think this heat is hard for you, imagine how I feel! not to mention the sand makes my scales so dull.” Dagger made himself comfortable, curling up in the shade next to his rival. Joke leaned into him, the cold radiating from his scales feeling like an oasis from the heat. He grabbed one of Dagger’s wings out from under his stark white cloak, pulling it over him like a blanket. Dagger complied, twining their tails together.
The two drifted off to sleep in the cave, their refuge from the harsh desert sun.
