Chapter Text
“Alpha!” A high pitched moan, reverberates through the room, as a hand tightens under his belly, and hot kisses run up his neck, where his mating bite is. The smacks of their bodies could be heard, and Bryan felt his eyes roll back as he came with a shout.
Leon grunted against his ear. His hand tightening against the one holding his belly, and the one holding his leg.
“Omega. . .” A slow trickle of kisses up the back of his sweaty neck, as Bryan opened his eyes once more feeling hazy. Then, slowly, caresses on his belly, and the feeling of contentment and happiness filling their bond. Bryan felt sticky and impossibly warm. He could feel the alpha’s cum trickle out slowly from his pussy.
“Ugh. . .” Bryan complained as he attempted to pull away from the onslaught of kisses and the beginning of another hard on from his alpha. “Stop it. You’re gonna be late and I’m exhausted.”
“You? Exhuasted?” Leon teased. “That’s a first.”
Bryan blushed, and then rolled his eyes. “Well, the baby is getting hungry and so am I.”
Leon finally let him go as Bryan stretched, moaning in relief. Leon’s hand was still on his thigh, caressing, but not going anywhere inappropriately. He was staring at him intensely, eyes dark and possessive. Bryan huffed. “It’s your first day, Leon. You are going to be late.”
Leon flashed a small warm smile. “You’re just too pretty. And you make me horny.” He squeezed his thigh one more time, smacks a wet kiss on Bryan’s cheek and gets out the bed. Bryan blushes and yelps when Leon picks him up bridal style.
“What are you doing?”
“We’re going to take a shower.”
Bryan narrows his eyes. “It has to be a shower, Leon. If you get any ideas, you will actually be late.”
“Calm down, babe,” says Leon.
When he’s softly put down and walks into the warm water of the shower, he feels a warm caress on his side; a kiss on his neck as Leon’s hands begin to wander down. Bryan sighs, defeated.
After their. . . shower, Bryan feels refreshed but still hungry. He complained so, and Leon kissed him until he shut up. Leon then proceeded to make him an all-American breakfast, which had him and their baby salivating.
As he eats, Leon begins to actually pack his bag, and put his uniform on. “You’re not late, right?” Bryan asked.
Leon shook his head. “No, baby.” He then paused. “Actually, I need to talk to you about something.”
Bryan tensed as Leon sat down and took his hand. “You’re. . . not breaking up with me, right?” Leon frowned.
“Baby, I would never break up with you.” Leon said seriously, kissing his mating scar. “Plus, you’re mine.”
Bryan sometimes felt a bit insecure. Maybe it was all the years he had spent alone, and doubting himself on the stuff he could do as well as doubting the people around him. Sometimes he blames it on his last relationship, but also on his past experiences with other alphas. Leon was just so beautiful, and he was just. . . Well, Leon has worked hard to prove himself to Bryan. But to be honest, Bryan didn’t feel Leon had anything to prove. He gave him his bite, and his baby. Leon’s baby. . . He touched his stomach and almost purred. He just felt insecure at times, although he knew it was silly to even feel that.
Leon could smell his happiness so he chuckled and said, “No. It’s about my job.”
“Your job?”
Today was Leon’s first day as a rookie cop. Bryan was so proud. But he was a bit nervous on how the other more experienced cops may treat him. Leon nodded and said, “They offered me something.”
“What was it?” Bryan asked.
“To move to Raccoon City.”
Raccoon City. Bryan tensed. “That’s a bit far, huh?”
Leon brought both of Bryan’s hands into his. “You’ll be coming with me because you’re my mate. But. . . I want to know how you feel. They’d pay half the lease, and then I can focus on saving up to buy us a house.”
“Why Raccoon City?” Bryan asked.
“They need cops over there,” says Leon. “You know their situation. They have more opportunities.”
Bryan liked their small apartment. He liked his neighbors, his job, and. . . “I don’t know,” he said honestly. “It’s a big change. And Raccoon City is a huge place.”
Honestly, Bryan was still coming to terms with the fact he was going to have a baby. Four months in, and it still didn’t seem real. Sometimes Bryan lays awake at night, while Leon snores away, wide eyed and touching his stomach like it’s some kind of alien.
“Plus, they offered me a better position,” says Leon. Bryan knows what that means. More money for you and the baby. But Bryan didn’t care about the money! He wanted to raise his baby somewhere he felt safe and comfortable, and Raccoon City was a completely new territory for him. He squirmed.
“You don’t have to decide now,” says Leon, softly, kissing his cheek. “Take your time.”
God, Bryan always felt like an asshole. Leon was such a softie, well, at least with him. He’s seen his fair share of angry outbursts from Leon, but never directed at him.
“Okay. . . “
Leon smiles at that, and then says, “Any plans for today?” To be honest, Bryan was planning on staying in bed all day and watching corny horror movies.
“I’m going to go work,” says Bryan. “Just do a few runs.”
Leon frowns, just as he expected. “Bryan—“
“I know,” says Bryan. “But I get bored being in here all day. And you know what the doctor said. Movement is good for the baby. Plus, I like working.”
“I know,” Leon sighs. “I’m just worried.”
“Overprotective,” Bryan hums.
“I am,” Leon agrees. “I just. . . What if something happens out there and I’m not there?”
Bryan snorts. “What could happen? A zombie apocalypse breaks out?”
Leon smiles at that. “Okay, but, as soon as you get tired, please go home.” He begins. “And don’t do more than 4 hours, Bryan. Don’t stay out too late. And please, when you get hungry, eat something.” He begins to take his wallet out and Bryan kisses him.
Their kiss is slow and sweet. Leon’s hand comes up and rubs Bryan’s mating mark, and licks inside his mouth. Bryan pulls away, spit hanging by a thread. “Don’t worry,” Bryan emphasizes. “Me and the baby will be okay.”
Leon nods at this, and kisses him once more.
Geez. Now he will truly be late.
Leon leaves after a lot of coaxing. Sometimes he acts like a pup, one that was just presented! But jeez, how Bryan loved him. Even after two years of dating, he gets shy in front of him. Some would say that they’re relationship escalated too quickly, that they didn’t think it through when they mated. But the moment their eyes met, the moment they kissed for the first time, Bryan knew he was the one. And he always hoped that Leon thought that too.
Which. . . (“Have my baby,” Leon moaned, as he thrusted deep into him.
Bryan’s heat felt too strong, too high. His hands clamped against Leon’s shoulder, back arched, eyes closed as he moaned. “Please, Bryan,” sobs Leon into his lips. “Have my baby.”
Bryan nodded, eyes teary, mouth dry, and moaned; legs shaking as Leon knotted him.)
Well, at least Bryan was sure that it was his heat that had him scream in the middle of the bathroom in the gas station he stopped at to buy a pregnancy test, and then take it in the bathroom. At the same time, he was afraid to even hit the vape in his pocket and threw it out. Afraid that Leon would reject the baby, he began to sob and wail to him.
It’s a lot, I know. He had said. Please. It’s our baby.
Leon had just kissed him. When he kisses, he kisses like he’s a starving man, inhaling him in one go. Bryan felt like that too, sometimes. Starved for him. But Leon seemed to be like that all the time.
I said I wanted you to have my baby. Leon had said. So you will.
It had made his heart flutter so much that the anxiety of having a baby vanished just for that night. Most days he hyperventilated over knowing he would be a father soon, and that the baby would come sooner or later. He didn’t even know the gender, too scared to admit it was real. Leon didn’t mind.
God, most days Leon seemed to be the perfectly stable one in their relationship. Bryan was afraid that Leon will realize one day how truly fucked up Bryan was, and leave him. Just like everyone else.
His phone buzzes as he pulls up to the next hospital. “Hello?” He answers. “It’s Bryan.”
“Bryan!” Michelle’s voice cuts through. Michelle was his ex. . . alpha? Girlfriend? Not even Bryan was sure anymore. They dated for a few months, Bryan had grown too attached to her, but when Michelle brought up the idea of mating, he shut her out. When they (Michelle) ended things, Michelle wasn’t as hurt anymore. Although, sometimes, Bryan does see her eyes shake a bit as it travels to his small bump.
She was a great friend, though. Even after they broke up, they never stopped talking. When Bryan met Leon, she finally realized it wasn’t her that Bryan couldn’t handle the thought of mating, but that his true pair was Leon.
“Michelle?” He asks, confused as he brings the medical bag to the front desk, flashing his ID. The lady looks at him once and signals to a different entrance.
“Hi,” greets Michelle. “I just wanted to call you. To check up on you.”
If Leon was here, he’d be practically growling at the fact Michelle had even called at all. It was unusual for her to call, so Bryan was a bit confused. Even if it was to check up on him, she usually texted him once in a while.
“How’s the baby?”
“Oh, you know,” says Bryan. “Making me fat. Tired.”
As he hands the medical bag to one of the doctors. As they sign, the doctor wrinkles his nose, and Bryan shifts away. Before he left, Leon made sure to douse him in his scent, by rubbing his neck into his mating gland, and making sure to spread his scent all over him that screamed mated omega. Then he made sure to nuzzle his belly, kissing it before leaving. As if the mating mark wasn’t enough, but apparently to Leon, a lot of people in the academy were assholes, and always claimed they’d flirt with mated omegas, pregnant or not.
“Actually I was calling you for something,” says Michelle, and Bryan nods. He sees one of the nurses handing out more medical supplies and papers, and he takes one out. “Hold on. Are you working right now?” She asked.
“Yeah?”
“Leon is letting you work?”
Bryan frowned. “Leon doesn’t let me work. I came to work because I felt useless staying inside all day.”
“Bryan, you’re carrying a baby.”
Not your baby, he wanted to say. Why are you so worried? Michelle used to be very opinionated and loud over what Bryan used to do. When he started dating Leon, it became a quiet murmur. Leon didn’t like her as much as he did, but Bryan thinks that’s just because the alpha is possessive over him.
“I know,” says Bryan. “I’m only doing so for a little.”
“I understand but—“
“Leon knows, Michelle,” he snaps. “And I’m sure if he was really worried about me overworking myself, he would have told me to stay home.”
Michelle goes quiet, and he feels guilt. He sighs as he pulls up to the next hospital. This will be his last run. He feels tired and queasy already, and he’d really like cereal at the moment. “Listen, I’ll call you back okay?” Bryan says.
“Oh, Bryan. . .” She sounded guilty. “I’m just worried about you.”
“I get it,” he replied. “But you’re not my alpha, Michelle. So please.” She went silent again at that. “Okay? I’ll talk to you later, bye.”
As soon as he hung up, he began to look for the person the B7 was being delivered to. “Um. . . Did anyone ask for a Medical Courier? I have a B7.” He says to the countless doctors and nurses in the hallway. When they ignore him, he sighs.
He goes to the receptionist. “Hey, who do I deliver this too?”
She looked bored and disinterested. “All deliveries are on the third floor.”
“Okay, sure. Thanks!”
As he takes the elevator to the third floor, because mind you, being pregnant makes him more exhausted than usual. He can’t even walk the stairs without feeling out of breath. The other doctors don’t pay him any mind as he squeezes through. “B7. . .” He looks at the doors. Doctors and nurses pass by him in a hurry, and he feels overwhelmed. “Hi, does anyone have a delivery!”
He doesn’t know what’s in the bag. “A kidney or something?”
As he holds the green bag up, no one pays any mind.
He flops his arms beside him. “Hello?”
“Hey!” A doctor comes barreling through. “What took you so long, huh?”
“. . . what?”
The doctor snatches the bag, and goes back running into a different room that says surgeries. “Wait!” Bryan says, not expecting the turn of events. “You have to sign this!” He holds out the receipt. “What the fuck!” He stomps his foot.
He looks around. He stops. One of the hospital rooms has a lady, some of her jaw is ripped off, and there’s blood oozing off. The nurses around her frantically begin to wipe her down. But she didn’t seem frazzled or scared. He felt his stomach hurt. “You don’t like that too, huh?” He asked the baby, petting his stomach. The smell of the blood sent something nauseous down his throat.
He goes back downstairs, urging the bile back down his throat. He beelines to the reception and shoves the receipt in her face. “I need someone to sign.”
The woman stares at him disinterested. “I didn’t receive the package.”
Bryan huffs, annoyed. “The doctor just took off.”
“Okay? Wait for him then.”
“I’m not a doctor, but he went into a room that said surgeries,” Bryan says. “And in my opinion, I think surgeries take a long time.”
“Then sign it yourself,” she snaps.
Bryan crinkles the paper in his grip. His phone begins to buzz, and he huffs. He looks down to her name tag and gets a bright idea. He smiles. “Fine. Thanks.”
She looks away as he begins to walk away, taking his phone out, answering as he begins to write her name on the paper. “Andrea. . .”
“Baby?”
“Leon?” Bryan asks, taking the phone away from his ear and looking at the caller. He puts the phone back. “Hi.”
“Baby, where are you?”
“I’m still at the hospital,” he replies. “I’m just finishing my last run.”
“It’s late,” Leon says worriedly.
“I know,” Bryan chuckles. “But this is my last one, I promise.”
“Okay. Listen,” Leon begins. “I’m being taken to Raccoon City right now.”
“What?”
Leon was supposed to be back home with him tonight.
“I’m sorry, baby. It was sudden,” says Leon. “Apparently there are a bunch of emergencies and they don’t have enough officers on the scene. I don’t really have a choice.”
Bryan exhales shakily. “Okay.”
“I promise I’ll be back by sunrise, princess,” says Leon. “Just relax tonight, okay? You’re heading home now right?”
“Yeah,” says Bryan, feeling his eyes water. God, ever since the pregnancy he was so much more emotional. He knows the reason and why Leon has to stay at work tonight, but he wanted to spend time tonight with him.
“Okay, baby,” says Leon. “Take care of our baby, okay? Please drive safely on the road, it looks like the snow won’t stop. I love you, okay?”
“I love you too,” says Bryan. “Bye.”
After he hangs up, Bryan sighs, thumping his head against his hands. “Fuck.”
“Hey! Courier!”
He turns, looking at a nurse that’s signaling him. He walks towards her. Before he can say anything, the nurse says, “Got time for another run?” She begins. “It’s out of town, so the pay is double.”
Out of town? Bryan thinks. He would have taken it if he wasn’t pregnant, but leaving now and in the heavy snow didn’t sound right. Plus, he promised Leon to take care of their baby. The baby was hungry and tired, and he was cold. “What town?” He asks, genuinely curious.
“Raccoon City,” she says.
Leon. . .
Before he can think logically and remember the words Leon told him he says, “I’ll take it.” He smiles at her as she signals him in.
Honestly, they needed the extra money. Plus, Leon would be there, so maybe he could meet up with him and convince him to come home. He nodded at this, convinced. “By the way, I have to ask, do you have chains on your car? It’s up the mountain, so I just need to know to make sure. I’ll have to look for another courier if you don’t.”
“Oh, yeah,” he nods. “It does.”
She looks at him quickly and then to his stomach. The coat he was wearing hides it, but she was a nurse, so it was probably obvious to her. “Oh, don’t worry,” he said. “My baby will be okay.” He smiles. “My alpha is down that way, so my baby is just excited to see him again.”
“Mhmm,” she hums. “Listen. This is an emergency level A. That means no other stops, okay?”
“Calm down,” he smiles. “No sweat, okay?”
“Bryan?” Leon’s voice sounded strained through the speaker as Bryan drove through the snow slowly. He didn’t expect for it to be snowing this bad. “Baby, are you heading home, now?”
“Not yet,” says Bryan. There was silence.
“Bryan. Are you doing another delivery?” He sounded frustrated and worried. “Stress is bad for the baby. Please go home.”
“It was an emergency one! I couldn’t just say no. This could be like an eight year old's heart, or a mother’s brain.” He spoke, as he squinted his eyes. The trees made everything seem darker. “Listen. After I bring this, I promise I’ll head home.” A cheeky lie. Once he brought it, he’ll head to the RC police station and ask to see one Leon S. Kennedy. Then, he’ll bat his eyelashes and convince Leon to take him home, which inevitably would lead to him not going back to RC for his shift, and just fucking him into the mattress.
He felt his underwear dampen at the thought. Jesus! He’s gotten super horny since he got pregnant. Anything sets him off. Even just the thought of Leon could get him wet.
“What?” Static.
“Baby.” Bryan began. “Listen, you’re cutting out. I promise I’ll be home soon, okay? This just was too important for me to say no.”
He felt that same nauseousness from earlier and stopped the car, opening the door and leaning his head out. The cold felt soothing against his cold face.
“B- B. . . Baby?” Leon sounded more cut off.
He breathed in deeply.
“Come on, baby,” he whispered to his belly. “Just a few more minutes, okay? Then we can go find your papa and hope he takes us home.” Who’s he kidding? Leon would literally have an aneurysm if he showed up. He’d take him home immediately. His heart warmed with affection. The baby seemed to realize it too as his nausea dimmed.
“Bryan?” Leon sounded worried.
“Leon,” Bryan began. “The signal is really bad here. I love you, okay? I’ll be back soon.”
Before Leon could respond, the call was cut off. Bryan bites his lip. He pats his stomach. “You’re okay, right? You can wait till we see papa right?” The baby didn’t respond, of course. He sighs as he begins to drive again.
He drove slow and steady, the snow was thick and the moon was high out tonight. Even then, it didn’t do much to illuminate the road.
Leon, Leon, Leon.
That was all his mind could think of. It’s probably why he took this delivery in the first place. Who was he kidding? The delivery was important to him, as it could be crucial to the life of someone, but he wanted to be back in Leon’s arms immediately. Even if Leon got angry with him for showing up in Raccoon City, with no rest and hungry, he’d take it.
As he’s thinking this, he doesn’t see the flash of something run out the woods.
Thud!
He screeched, pressing on the breaks immediately. He exhaled shakily, putting the car in park. “What the fuck, what the fuck. . .” What the hell was that? “Please be an animal.”
As he gets out, the cold whips against his face, biting his cheeks. He unconsciously brings a hand to his stomach, comforting his baby. Or himself? “It’s okay, baby. Maybe it was an animal. . .”
As he closes the door to his car, he begins to walk to the front where he hit the supposed animal. He walked cautiously, feeling the snow crunch under his shoes. He didn’t even wear boots, for god sakes! It felt like his toes would snap off from the cold.
There was blood.
But there wasn’t a body nor an animal.
“What the hell?”
He could see footprints though, and they led into the forest. He took his phone out and dialed Leon’s number.
He brought it to his ear.
Beep. . . Beep . . .
Hey, it’s Leon. I can’t come to the phone right now. Leave a message.
He hung up and tried again.
After the third time, he put his phone away. His phone was halfway through its battery, so it was a better idea to conserve the battery.
“Okay,” he whispers into the darkness. “Please, don’t be dead.”
He was probably being incredibly stupid by going into the forest like this. An animal could come out and attack him, or something! But he couldn’t in good conscience let the person die out there in the cold. Even though he was still trying to wrap his head around the fact on why they are even outside in this cold, in the middle of nowhere!
The area was entirely secluded, and branches hit his coat and his face as he walked further in. More blood appeared as he ventured in, and he felt a wave of anxiety. What would happen to him if the person was dead? Bryan couldn’t raise his baby in a prison.
“Fuck, fuck,” he whispered. “It’s so fucking cold.”
He almost screams as he sees the lady on the floor. She seemed to be. . . Frozen in place?
“Oh my god. Thank god you’re alive,” he whispered as he ran towards her. She was incredibly pale, eyes dark and wide, and her hand was stiff as he helped her up. Soon enough, they found themselves back on the road, and he pushed her into the passenger seat. He leaned against the door, exhausted. Then, a sharp sensation against his ribs. He winces, leaning harder against the car. “Did you just kick me, baby?”
Another sharp sensation. He laughs, feeling ridiculous. “Oh, I wish your papa was here. He’d be so happy.” Then, more sarcastically. “Of course, this is the time you decide to start kicking.”
He gives himself one more deep breath before hopping back in the car. The lady seemed to have regained consciousness, but she seemed to be nonverbal. She stared at him, and the blood on her face made him more queasy, the nauseousness coming back. “Okay. I’m headed to the hospital, anyway.” He gave her an unsure smile. “So, you’ll be okay.” She didn’t respond, or even make a gesture that signaled she understood him. He started the car again, and began to drive slowly down the road.
His omega felt wary, though. And he kept looking at her as he drove, feeling nervous in her presence. He felt another wave of nausea and groaned against his hand. “Sorry,” he said to her, but she didn't look away. “My baby is feeling ruthless right now. . .” He rubs his stomach again. He couldn't even tell what her second gender was, as she was completely scentless. The only thing he could smell was the blood, and something rotten. He wrinkles his nose. The smell wasn't helping his nausea at all.
A few more seconds pass by and suddenly the lights of a cop car light up behind him. “What?” He whispers, as he stops. The cop stops, and from his rear view mirror sees someone walk towards him.
Tap. Tap.
“Good evening,” says the officer. “I stopped you because your car doesn't have chains. Are you alright?”
“I was,” says Bryan. “But, uh, actually, I ran into a problem earlier.” Then, he slowly moved away, and signaled to the women beside him.
“What the fuck?” The officer uttered. “Alright, step out the vehicle, sir.”
As soon as he does, Bryan begins to blabber about his situation, and how it happened. The officer was looking at the lady on the other side, talking to her, but she didn’t react to his questions, nor the light he was flashing in her eyes.
“Are you intoxicated? On drugs?” The officer asks, as he comes up and gives a breathalyzer. “Breath on this, until it beeps.”
Once it beeps, Bryan begins to blabber again, “I’m pregnant, sir. I can’t drink and I don’t do drugs.”
The officer looks down at his stomach, and Bryan feels self conscious. “What’s a pregnant omega doing out so late?”
“I was working,” says Bryan, exasperated. “I’m a medical courier. I was bringing a delivery to the RC hospital, when this lady just jumped out of nowhere. Now, I wanna know why she’s just walking in the middle of nowhere and jumping in front of cars. I swear, I was bringing her to the hospital.”
The officer hums. Bryan freezes. “Wait, do you have a signal? Could you contact my alpha? His first day was today.”
“A rookie?” The officer sounded surprised. Bryan nodded. “Well, what's his name?”
“Leon,” says Bryan. “Leon S. Kennedy.”
“Kennedy. . .” The officer hummed. “I think I know who you’re talking about. Fine. Wait here.” He walks back to the car.
Having a pregnant omega wait in the cold? Asshole. When he comes back, he shakes his head. “Line is too busy to get a hold of him. I can’t seem to reach anyone at the moment.”
Bryan shivers. “Now what?”
The officer huffs. “Okay, fine. I’ll escort you to the hospital, we’ll get the lady checked in and you can deliver your little package. Once that’s done, this conversation isn’t over. And we’ll talk to your alpha, about letting his omega out of sight.”
Bryan frowns. It wasn’t Leon’s fault he was out here. His stomach churns. Did he get his alpha in trouble? Either way, he says, “Thank you so much.”
“If you get out of sight, I swear I’ll pull you over and arrest you, pregnant or not, got it?”
“Got it,” says Bryan. As the officer begins to walk away, he pauses. “Could she ride with you?”
The officer looks back, bewildered. “It’s just. . . what if she needs medical attention or something? I don’t know CPR.”
The officer curses.
After they both struggle to move the lady from his car into the cops car, Bryan heaves, exhausted. He bends down, leaning against his knee. His baby jabs at his stomach one more time, leaving butterflies in his wake. God, he was hungry. And so was the baby. “I promise we’ll get food soon,” he whispers to his stomach. “Just need to bring this lady to the hospital, okay?”
“Don’t get out of my sight.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Bryan says, as he walks back to his car. He sits down, and immediately blasts the hot air. He shivers, rubbing his stomach once more. After one fail, and then the second, on the third try his car turns on. His hands shake from uncertainty and from the cold. God, could Leon just call him back? Was the police shortage that bad? Leon should have said his pregnant mate was waiting for him. He shakes his head. No, that would have left Leon in a bad spot. He tries to call again, but his phone says there's no signal.
He looks at his medical bag. “No stops, huh?”
The police car was going too fast, and Bryan was afraid of driving that quickly on the snow. He curses under his breath as his windshield wipers go fast. “Goddamit, fuck, fuck. . .” That stupid police officer with no empathy. Usually, he didn’t like cops, except for his alpha of course. Even he was surprised when he didn’t feel as disgusted at the thought of Leon becoming a cop.
As he continued to curse, the cop car began to swerve. “Uh. . .” Then the cop car swerved away from the road, flipping into the open field of snowy grass. “Oh my god!”
He gasped in fright as he drove after the flipped car. He got out, quickly, holding his stomach protectively as he ran towards the flipped car. “Hello?!” He shouted. “Are you guys okay?”
When no answer comes he curses. The lights are still going off. “Fuck,” he whispers, and slowly bends down on his knees to look inside the car. He felt out of breath already by the time he tried to crawl inside, he carefully went through, to make sure his stomach didn’t hit anything, and that his baby didn’t feel uncomfortable. The police officer was still inside, blood pooling from his head, but the lady wasn’t.
He didn’t think much of it, but he began to shake the officer. “Sir?”
No response.
Was he really dead? The thought made him nauseous, and so he tried his best to keep the bile from rising up his throat. “Sir?” He tried again.
He felt tears prick his eyes at the situation. What was going on? He felt helpless. He tried the buttons in the car, but he didn’t even understand what half of them meant. “Fuck!” He whimpered.
Static.
The walkie the police officer had was making noise. Just as quick, he grabbed the walkie and pressed a random button. “Hello?” He asked. He tried again. “Please. I need help.” The walkie didn’t make more noise, and Bryan finally felt the helpless tears go down.
“What do I do?” He whispers.
A growl and a thump. His scent spikes up in fear, as he looks around. Was that the woman? “Hello?” He asks again, feeling nervous.
Another growl and he tenses. From the cop’s belt, he grabs the gun. He shudders at how heavy it feels. Leon once taught him how to use it.
(“Listen to me, Bryan,” said Leon, seriously. Bryan looked up as Leon handed the gun. “Never use this unless you really have to.”
“When would I need to?” Bryan asked. Leon’s eyes went dark.
“When you feel that you are in danger. . .” said Leon. “This is to protect you from danger. Never shoot unless you believe you are in danger, do you understand?”
“Yes, Alpha.”
Leon smiled and kissed him deeply, taking his breath away. “Now, let’s actually shoot the gun.”)
He pushed his beanie back on and maneuvered until he was on his back. His stomach felt more heavy, and he felt more conscious of his baby. If he was truly in danger, than his baby would be in danger too. He promised Leon to protect their baby.
That’s when he sees her. She was. . .
“Leave me alone!” Bryan shouted. “I swear I’ll shoot!” His hands were shaking as he pointed the gun towards her. But she wasn’t speaking, she was making inhuman noises that sounded like growls. He whimpered, looking behind him. Maybe he had time to get out and beeline for his car? The thought disappeared as the woman growled once more and got on the floor. “Fuck! Leave me the fuck alone!” He cursed, shifting back quickly as she began to crawl into the space.
He screamed as she grabbed onto his legs. He was afraid to shoot. He quickly grabbed the car handle, and opened it. His head landed in soft snow, and he kicked her as best as he could as he crawled out. He felt the exhaustion creep in faster, as he beelined for his car.
That’s when he realized the strange silence.
He looked around. Where did the woman go?
His hand on the gun tightened.
(“I know it seems scary,” said Leon. “But you can’t be afraid to shoot.”
“But. . .”
“Sweetheart,” said Leon. “If you hesitate, then you could die.”
Bryan swallowed as he aimed the gun at the test dummy. He was wearing headphones and glasses, and he was surrounded by glass. His finger hesitated on the trigger. “I fucking can’t. . .”
“You can,” said Leon, grabbing his hands, and getting behind him. “Think about what could happen if you don’t.”
Bryan exhaled, and then pressed the trigger. A loud deafening sound that made him wince and step back from the pull. His back met Leon’s chest.
“Good job, baby,” said Leon sweetly, kissing his cheek.)
The woman tackled him, and he screamed.
“What the fuck! Get the fuck off me!”
She was trying to claw at him, and he pushed her off once more. He began to run backwards, and realized that if he didn’t shoot, then he could die. His baby could die.
His finger on the trigger.
He pressed.
A loud shot, and his head fell backwards at the sheer noise. Again, covered in snow and ice, feeling the wetness seep into his shoes.
But she got back up.
“What the fuck?” He said in disbelief. “What the fuck?!”
He shot again and again, again and again.
Right on his last one, she thumped backwards. He shakily got up, feeling his body finally realize the burden it went through. His back was killing him, his ankles hurt and he was so cold and so hungry. He ran, well, wobbled, as best as he could to his car, opened the door and pushed the key in. He kept whispering to his stomach, comforting his baby, but mostly himself. “You’re okay. You’re okay. Let’s go find someone, and call our Alpha. He’ll know what to do.” He whispered, repeatedly. His hands were shaking as he attempted to turn the car on, but the engine made a noise of failure as he cursed and got out of the car. “What the fuck.”
In his desperate attempts to save himself, he shot the engine to his car. “Fuck!” He cried out. He took his phone out again and tried calling Leon.
No signal.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” he said repeatedly.
That’s when he saw the house.
After going back to his car and getting the green medical bag, he began to walk.
His cries dimmed into soft whimpers. He had to be strong. If not for himself, then for his baby. He clenched the gun in his hand, not even sure if he would have to use it again. As he got closer, the more he realized the electric fence around. He cursed. If he weren’t pregnant, he would just jump over but. . . he rubbed his stomach. “It’s okay, baby.” He whispered. “I’m not putting you in danger.”
He walked around, looking for an entrance or an opening. Part of the fence wasn’t electric, so with all the strength he could, he carefully heaved himself over. His stomach made it more difficult, and after he landed on the other side, he began to huff in exhaustion.
He walked to the door and knocked. “Hello?” He asked. “Anyone home? There was an accident, could I just use your phone?”
There was no answer.
He swallowed. God, he was breaking every rule in Leon’s book.
He grabbed the door handle and said, “Well, I’m coming in. My baby is cold.” Maybe if he said this, it would be less. . . weird? He didn’t know, but he walked in. The home was. . . homey. It was warm, but it seemed as if there were people here. He walked around cautiously, and then stopped, holding his stomach protectively. The dining table was knocked over, a bunch of dishes, a vase of flowers shattered on the ground.
His heart was beating against his chest. He walked in and looked around. His stomach growled.
“Sorry,” he apologies as he goes through the pantry, finding a box of cereal. He opens the fridge and takes out the gallon of milk. The bottle looked new, and it confirmed his suspicion that this just had happened. God, he hoped he didn’t walk into a domestic situation. He didn’t know if he had any more energy left. As he chugged the milk and then stuffed his face with the cereal, his eyes zeroed in on the home phone. He put the food down and walked towards the phone. He knew it was logical to call Leon first, but he had to make sure the police got here.
“The number you are trying to call is currently experiencing heavy call traffic.”
He drew back in surprise. He dialed again. Same message.
“Okay, Leon,” says Bryan. “Please, answer.”
Beep. Beep.
Hey, it’s Leon. I can’t answer the phone right now. Leave a message.
He felt the tears again, the anxiousness. “L-Leon. . .” he whimpered into the phone. “Alpha, something happened. Something bad happened. . . and–and–I don’t know what to do. I’m okay. The baby is okay too, but I don’t know what’s happening right now and I’m really scared. . .” He closed his eyes. “I shot someone. Or something.” His hands shake. “U-Um, well, I just wanted to say that I lied. I know I said I was heading home right after the delivery, but. . . the route I was taking is to Raccoon City and I was going to surprise you there. I— what you told me this morning about moving to Raccoon City, I just didn’t know if I really wanted to. I love where we live but I also love you, so I’ll follow you anywhere. Sorry this is getting long but. . . Just. . . please call me back when you can. Call this number. My phone has no signal. I love you.”
He put the phone back and burst into helpless tears. Was it the baby making him feel more helpless than usual? His eyes caught the shot gun on top of the fireplace. He walked towards it and grabbed it, and then scavenged for the shells. “What the fuck doesn’t put the shells with the gun?” He groaned.
Thud.
He looked up. There was someone upstairs.
“Okay,” he whispered, touching his stomach. “Be brave for me, okay baby?” He walked towards the stairs. “Hello?” He walked up the stairs slowly, the wood creaking beneath his feet. The first two doors were locked, and then the last one was creaked open. He took a step forward, and pushed it open.
Empty.
He frowned. He began to open the drawers and cheered when he found a small drawer with shot gun shells. As he did so, another thud happened. He turned, frightened and saw no one there.
That’s when he saw it.
He walked towards the window. A dead woman. The woman he killed, running towards the house like she hadn’t been hurt at all. He shrieked in fear, feeling his heart pulse beneath his skin. That’s when the phone started to ring.
He turned his head.
Leon.
He remembered what Leon had told him about loading guns. When you’re in danger, you need to be calm, Bryan.
His hands shook as he took the shell out, but before he could insert it, a scream tore out of him as he was pushed to the ground. Another one of those monsters, just like the woman. Only this time it was a man. Bryan screeched in fear, feeling the weight atop his stomach. His baby.
“Get off me, you fuck!” Bryan screamed, finding the gun back in his pocket, as he took it out shakily. The monster thing screamed and growled in his face, sending spit everywhere. He screamed as he pointed the gun to the head and shot.
Just then the phone beeped.
“Hi, you’ve reached the residence of Daryl and Kathy Fender. We can’t come to the phone right now. Just leave a message and we’ll call you back.”
The door slams open.
Grunts and screaming. Bryan’s own heavy breathing and the sound of his heart thudding against his chest.
“Baby? Bryan?” Leon’s voice comes through sounding panicked and worried.
Bryan is frozen in place as the monster thing stomps up the stairs, the thud is heavy against the house. He jumps in fright as it crashes into the walls.
“Bryan, are you safe? S-Something terrible is happening and I’m worried sick. Please call me back if you are. But if you said your cell isn’t working—because I tried to call you, then just turn back. Please, Bryan. Don’t come to Raccoon City. It’s infested with. . . with something I can’t comprehend. But it’s dangerous, and I need you to go home. If not for you, nor for me then for the baby. You have to protect our baby, Bryan.”
Bryan couldn’t answer even if he wanted to as he pointed the gun to the door.
“Bryan, I love you. And I promise this isn’t a goodbye. I found two other survivors, and we’re trying to find our way back. I promise I’ll come back to you, okay? So, please, just this once, listen to me. Listen to your alpha.”
The monster came through the room, and just as it did, Bryan took the shot. The head exploded into heaps of blood. Bryan winced.
“Okay? Do you understand, Bryan? Wait—Claire!” Then the call cuts off.
Bryan sighs shakily letting his hand drop. He looks down at the two bodies. God, how many times would he kill these two?
Just as that thought crosses, the woman’s insides start to intertwine with the man’s own tendrils.
“Interesting. . .”
And then he pukes.
The car was a bust.
Bryan found himself walking towards Raccoon City, the place Leon told him not to do. But how could Bryan let his alpha fend for himself? If Leon died. . .
He shook the thought away, his eyes becoming watery once again.
His back ached more. He patted his stomach comfortingly. “I know, baby.” He whispered into the darkness, his breath coming out in cold puffs. “I know. We’ll get to your papa soon. He’ll be safe and well go back home and forget this ever happened.”
But what if what Leon said was true. . . That the city was infested with something. . . Was it the monster he killed?
How could Bryan save Leon and protect their baby? If his baby got hurt. . .
As a tunnel came into view he stopped, fear struck his heart. Darkness surrounded the tunnel, and just from outside he could hear the echoes of growls and inhuman sounds.
He grit his teeth, a shaking hand touching his stomach. “We got this.” His baby kicked softly, and he breathed deeply. “We got this.” He repeated. He turned his flashlight on and walked in. His hand shook as he held the gun tightly in his arm. He was clutching the medical bag tightly.
He still had to bring it to the hospital.
But Leon was right. He had to protect their baby.
As he walked in he felt a shiver wrack his body. There was no monsters, thank god. Just wrecked cars, and then. . .
“What the hell,” he whispers, looking at the parked RV in the middle of the tunnel. “Shit.” He groaned softly. “That’s convenient.”
Well, the only way out was through. He put on his brave face and opened the door. He pointed his gun, but the RV was empty. As he walked inside, the darkness made him more queasy. His baby kicked once more.
“Shh. . .” he whispered, more for himself than for his baby. “We’ll be okay.”
The exit was just on the other side.
He walked towards the door and then jumped when a thud came from the inside of a small bathroom.
He squeezed his eyes shut in fear and then opened them once more. He put his gun up, pointing to the door. And then slowly, he opened the door.
He doesn’t expect to see a little girl.
She was sitting in the corner, hiding her face.
Bryan gulped, his hand once again touching his stomach. “Are you okay?” He whispered.
She was frightened. Her body was shaking. “N-no. . .” She shook, tears in her eyes. “Something attacked my mom.”
He blinked. “And then it attacked me.”
He screeched when he saw her foot. It was like a. . . like a tentacle. He felt the nausea again, turning his stomach. He tried his best to send out comforting pheromones. It made the girl relax a bit, but still, did that mean she’d become like the monsters from outside?
Either way he couldn’t just leave her. She was someone’s baby. And If it was his baby. . . He’d wish for someone to help them too.
“Okay. Come with me, and we’ll get out of here.”
The girl lifted her arms and he huffed. “Sorry, sweetie, but I can’t really lift you up right now.” He gestured to his protruding stomach.
The girl nodded teary eyed. And as she is about to step down, she flies across the RV. Bryan screeches as he’s thrown on the floor, his hands come to his stomach protectively. The girl is crying, a sound of terror and fright, and Bryan is screaming right alongside her.
All he can think about is his baby.
And then his Leon.
I couldn’t protect our baby.
Her teeth sink into his arm before he has the chance to react, and he’s throwing himself away from her. She’s wailing something inhuman, and just as she’s about to attack him again her head splatters against the wall. Someone shoots her repeatedly behind him.
He winces, covering his ears.
The girl splattered against the wall, and he urged himself not to puke again.
“Put your hands right where I can see them,” a woman’s voice echoes through the RV. A gun click.
Bryan lifts his shaky hands up. There was something aching against his wrist. But the jacket covered it.
He looks up to see a beautiful black haired woman. She was wearing a beige coat around her body, and peculiarly enough, sunglasses. But he could tell she was attractive. The way she stood, the way she carried herself. She was an alpha, no doubt about it.
“You’re. . .” Bryan uttered.
“Are you bit?” She asked. Bit? Was that what happened? If he said yes. . . would she kill him and his baby?
“No,” he lied. “She almost. . .”
“You’re lucky I got here in time,” she said. “Or you would have been just like her.”
“You killed her,” he muttered. “She was just a girl.”
“She was no longer human,” the woman said. “You should be grateful you’re even alive. Not many make it this far.” She put her gun down.
Bryan put his hands down, and was surprised she stepped forward and offered her hand. He grabbed it, and huffed as he was pulled up. She looked him up and down, her eyebrows lifting in surprise at seeing the bump hidden beneath the layers of his clothing. However, she must’ve smelled it too.
“Pregnant,” she huffed amused and shook her head. “Listen. You need to get out of here.”
“Who are you?” He asked.
She flashed a badge. “FBI.”
“Thank you for your help,” says Bryan.
She hummed and walked around him to the exit. Bryan followed.
“You shouldn’t go this way,” she said. “You’ll find there is no life over here.”
“You’re FBI, right? Do you know what’s happening?” Began asked, following after her like a lost puppy.
She turned. “Sorry. It’s confidential information.”
Right. . .
“Where are you going?” Bryan asked.
She stopped. “Omega.” She said, and Bryan stiffened. “Do yourself a favor and stop asking questions. Turn around and go back home.”
“See, that’s the thing,” says Bryan. “I can’t. Because my alpha is out there. With those. . . things.”
She hummed. “He’s probably dead, omega.” She looked at his bump. “You should go so you could at least take care of the only thing left of your Alpha.”
“He’s not dead,” says Bryan, stubbornly. “I know he isn’t.”
She tilted her head. “What’s your name, omega?”
“It’s Bryan,” he says. “And you?”
She begins to walk away again. “The name's Ada. And the point still stands. Your alpha is probably dead. There’s no point in chasing after a ghost.”
Ada. Pretty name.
“Well. . .” He looked down to the medical bag. “Even if that’s true, I won’t believe it until I see it. Plus, I’m a medical courier. I need to bring this to the hospital.”
Ada stopped.
“What did you say?” She turned.
Bryan was on the verge of weeping again. Stupid pregnancy hormones. He held the green bag up. “It’s an emergency A. It’s supposed to be delivered to the hospital.”
She hummed. “Bryan, right?”
He nodded.
“I’ll help you find your alpha.” She says. “If he’s one of those things I can’t help you, but if he isn’t and you find him, then you have to give me something in return.”
What could he possibly have that she would want?
“What is it?”
She pointed to the bag.
“The bag.”
“But. . .” He looked down. “This could be an eight year old's heart. Or someone’s brain. What could you possibly need with it?”
Ada steps towards him. “Do you want to find your alpha, or not?”
Oh, he does. Bryan couldn’t live with himself if he turned back around and left. What would Leon think? Leon was. . . He was alive. He knew he was. He thought about their baby being born, never knowing who the father was.
“I do,” says Bryan.
“Then, it’s settled,” she said. “Let’s go.”
He nodded determinedly, before hearing a screech. They turned. Some kind of. . . human ball was coming towards them. Ada cursed and grabbed his hand, as they began to run.
Just then, a car came to a halt in front of them. Ada held up her gun, and Bryan held his gun up towards the creature. “Bryan, get closer,” Ada said. He nodded and bumped his back against hers.
God, she was so cool.
Someone came out of the car, a woman, holding her own gun up. But not towards them, but the monster ball. She began to shoot, and Ada grabbed his wrist, never letting her gun down. Once the creature realized it was out numbered, the women hollered for them to get in the car. Ada seemed suspicious but she led Bryan into the car. Her hand was tight against her gun.
There was someone else too. A man.
“Maxine!” The man said frustrated. “Why did you bring more people? We can’t protect them!”
“We don’t need your protection,” says Ada. “You can drop us off once we're in the city.”
“Do you have a death wish, lady?” The man said. “If we drop you off, you’d be killed by one of those monsters.”
Ada didn’t reply and sighed. The man quirked an eyebrow and looked at Bryan who tensed. “You’re his mate, right?”
“S-Sorry?”
The man gestured to his stomach, and Bryan hid it behind his coat. “She’s your alpha, right? Tell her you guys shouldn’t go into the city, or else you and your baby will be eaten into bits.”
Bryan self consciously put his hand on his stomach. He tried not to squirm. The thought made him so uncomfortable, that he didn’t even correct the man about the alpha comment. It must have been obvious from his scent.
“Enough,” says Maxine. “You’re scaring him.”
“I’m fine,” says Bryan, ignoring the flash of pain that his wrist sends up his body. His baby kicked one more time, and he soothed it by rubbing his stomach.
“This new generation of mates,” the man grumbles. “Back in my day, the alpha didn’t let their omega out of their sight.”
As they continue driving towards the city, Bryan holds the bag tightly against his chest. “Anyways, what are you two doing out here?”
Ada predictably doesn’t answer. But Bryan does. “Umm, I’m a medical courier,” he says. “I was bringing this to the hospital.”
Ada’s eyes sharpen as the scent of the beta man spikes. He turns to him. “What did you say?”
“I’m a medical courier?”
“What’s in the bag?”
“I-I don’t know. . .” he says, confused.
The man begins to try and grab it and Bryan leans back. “Stop it,” says Bryan. “This could be an eight year olds heart, or someone's brain.”
“Are you serious?” The man says.
“Paul,” Maxine warns.
“This is the sample for the cure!” Paul shouts. “We needed this like yesterday.”
Bryan splutters. “I was just giving this today!”
Ada was watching silently. She kept tapping her gun to her leg. “Wait,” says Bryan. “You’re telling me that there’s a cure to whatever is happening right now?”
“Yes!” Paul exclaimed. “And you have it right now!”
Bryan opened the bag carefully. He almost gasped when he saw the green syringe. He closed it back and held it close to his chest. His arm burned more now with that knowledge. So there was a cure. He’d be able to save his baby.
He hadn’t even realize the implications when the little girl bit him. Did that mean he was going to become like the monster from outside? And what about his baby? Would his baby be born a monster too? What would Leon think? That he couldn’t protect their baby?
“Give it to me,” Paul demanded.
Bryan shrunk. “No.”
“What the—!” Paul said. “Don’t you know the crisis we are in right now?”
“Well, if you had a sample somewhere else, what about now?” Bryan asked.
“An accident happened.”
“You dropped it, huh?”
A snort. Maxine covered her mouth. Ada smiled a little. Paul frowned and looked away. “Whatever. Omegas always think they should have the last say.”
Bryan looked away and tightly held the bag.
His baby could be saved. He could be saved.
“You better control him,” says Paul to Ada. She glares. “Or else you’ll just have another disobedient omega in your home.”
“Shut the fuck up, Paul,” says Maxine. “You don’t even have a partner so you can’t be talking.”
Bryan hid his smile against his jacket, at Paul’s curses.
The drive into the city wasn’t very long. And Bryan could see the fire and the destruction from where they were. Buildings burning, the hospital being the one thing he can see.
Leon. . . He thought, desperately. Where are you?
His baby kicked and Bryan huffed, rubbing his belly. “Don’t worry baby. . .” He whispered. “We’ll find him.”
Leon. I’m coming to find you.
Just wait for me.
