Work Text:
Jimin looks over to where Jungkookie is sprawled on his cot, knocking his knees together to a beat only he can hear.
"Do it," Jungkookie says without looking over.
"Shut up," says Jimin reflexively. "Anyway, do what?"
"We all heard you cry all night, Chimmy," Jungkookie says. He doesn't even look over, that brat.
"You definitely couldn't hear that."
Jungkookie flips over onto his stomach and now Jimin wishes, actually, that he would not look at Jimin's face.
"No," admits Jungkookie, "but I knew you were."
"Shut up. You're my worst child."
"You love me the best and the most," Jungkookie declares, and Jimin scowls at him.
"That's true but it's rude to say so and contradict your elders," sniffs Jimin in his best Jin hyung impression.
"I texted him," Jungkookie says quietly. "I felt a lot of emotions."
"I don't feel a lot of emotions," Jimin counters. "I just feel annoyance at you."
Jungkookie studies his face for a few moments, and it makes Jimin feel so damn uncomfortably seen.
"Okay," he finally says, tone mild. "I know you're kind of avoiding him. That's okay too."
"It's not okay." Jimin flops over onto his back and holds his phone over his face. He navigates to his chat with Namjoon hyung and slowly types.
Your song with Tablo sunbaenim is really beautiful, he thumbs in. It made Jungkookie cry. I'm glad you're still alive, hyung.
"Let me see," Jungkookie demands, and grabs the phone before Jimin can hit send. "Hm."
He types for a moment, and then hands the phone back to Jimin. He had edited the first message to say, "It made me cry" and then sent it and written a second: I love you, Joonie.
"Fuck, Jeon Jungkook!" says Jimin, more loudly and harshly than he had meant to. "Why did you do that?"
"Because you don't call him Joonie anymore and that makes him sad." Jungkook keeps his voice low, which is good because if he said that loudly enough for the grunts around them to hear, Jimin really would have killed him and gone to jail for the rest of his life.
"There's maybe a reason for that," Jimin hisses through gritted teeth.
"I don't care," says Jungkookie blithely. "Get the fuck over yourselves."
Jimin sends a scathing paragraph to Jin hyung about the way he chose to raise his golden child, and by the time he's done he has a new message from Namjoon hyung. He doesn't want to look at it, doesn't want to look at it, but when Jungkookie looks over and meets his eyes and smirks, he feels like he has to.
Jeon Jungkook cannot win.
I'm so glad I didn't die young.
Jimin hisses in a breath, and in that moment another message shows up.
I love you too Mini.
