Chapter Text

After a few days of helping Mikan around the hospital with Fuyuhiko, Hajime was informed that Nagito was feeling better, he was back to his old self again! But due to safety reasons, Mikan decided not to let Nagito near the others for the time being due to the disease being airborne. So Nagito decided to help out alongside Hajime and Fuyuhiko in the hospital. After all, once you recovered from the disease, you were immune to it. Meaning Nagito was the perfect candidate to help out.

The day was long and tiresome for Hajime, despite there being less patients to take care of and Nagitos additional help. At the end of the day, Hajime was sitting in his assigned room on the second floor of the hospital, having nothing to do since it was Nagitos and Fuyuhikos turn to help Mikan out. He did feel that it was hotter than usual, which made him a bit suspicious on whether or not he had the disease himselfsince he also felt a bit feverish, but he didn't mention anything to anyone yet.

And while he was in the room, staring at the setting sun out the window and thinking to himself whether to tell Mikan about feeling feverish more and more as the day went by. Tho his thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a door opening.

"Oh, There you are." Nagitos voice rang out from the doorway, making Hajime turn his head quickly at the sound of his voice, which made his head spin more than usual. "O-oh, Nagito..."

After a moment of Nagito silently staring at him in suspicion, his eyes narrowed and arms crossed as he leaned on the doorway, he spoke up. "Don't tell me that you've gotten sick too, Hajime." Nagito caught onto it immediately. Hajime took a moment to respond, his mind racing with thoughts too embarrassing to even admit to himself. "He noticed immediately" "He knows me too well" or even "My name sounds so pretty coming from him", he was already losing it. after what seemed like forever, which was realistically no more than a few seconds, Hajime, with a light shake of his head, spoke up.

"Maybe... i was thinking of asking Mikan when she's fre-"

"No need for that, i'm right here."

Hajime was suddenly cut off by Nagitos almost eager tone, clearly willing to help him out. Soon enough, Nagito was standing in front of Hajime, taking his arm and making him stand up quicker than he probably should've, and started examining him (allegedly). He put the back of his hand against hid forehead, the space between them way smaller than usual, which made Hajimes face warm up even more. Nagito had his face right up to his, their noses almost touching from how close he was.

Nagito was focusing on the temperature of Hajimes forehead, but all Hajime could think of was how close Nagito actually was to him. his breath fanning his face, the grayish hues in his eyes he didn't seem to notice until now... It was all making his heart race way faster than usual. And again, Nagitos voice snapped Hajime out of his thoughts as he felt his hand leave his forehead and land on his shoulder, like his other hand was. And for whichever reason, he didn't move his face away.

"Yep, definitely a fever. I'll call Mikan over to check you ou-"

"Wait! you don't need to do that!" Hajime practically yelped out before he could stop himself, not knowing why he even said it. The two of them just stared at each other for a few seconds, neither one saying anything in that short moment, which to Hajime, felt like forever. With a light, teasing smile, Nagito spoke up first. "Are the side effects of the disease already catching up to you? or is it something personal?" Hajimes face turned even more red at Nagitos teasing, if that was even possible, and just as he was about to murmur out an excuse, the door to the room opened, and both of them turned toward the sound to see Mikan standing by the door

As she spotted them in that position, Nagitos hands on his shoulders, pulling him impossibly close to him, Mikan couldn't help but stammer "A-ah! i'm so sorry for interrupting, I'll... leave now..." And just as she was nervously gonna close the door, Nagito spoke up, letting go of Hajime and taking a step towards the door, which left Hajime slightly disappointed for whatever reason.

"No, wait!" He said loudly, needing to get Mikans attention. "We need you, Hajime's sick."

When she heard that, she immediately opened the door again, walking up to Hajime whose head was still lightly spinning. "Let me see." Her voice calmed down a bit as she slipped into her role as a nurse. She put a hand on Hajimes forehead, noting that he also seemed physically unwell, her hand didn't have nearly the same effect as Nagitos hand did, but he was not in the position to think about that now.

"T-this is bad... you've surely caught the disease..." she spoke, the worried tone probably meant for herself. "Are there any... side effects yet..? Other thay being feverish, of course.."

"Not that i noticed..." Hajime mumbled, tho Nagito knew he was lying. Still, he didn't say anything about it. "Okay, i'll go f-free you a room" Mikan hurriedly left the room as she said that, leaving the two of them alone again. And that's when Hajime started thinking again...

Nagitos slim, slightly cold hand on his forehead, looking into his eyes with that unreadable, focused gaze of his... Even with his thin, pale build and messy hair, he was still enraptured with him. And it wasn't just his looks Hajime found doting, even tho Nagito was, without a doubt, extremely unpredictable and practically insane, there was a better side to him. When he wanted to, Nagito could be kind and polite, he also loved his encouragement, how he reassured him of his ultimate talent without even knowing it, and just how he felt more grounded around him, especially during the class trials. What he adored him for the most was the hope Nagito gave him, that he was more than his ultimate talent, seeing and admiring him for who he really was, he was utterly consumed by him..

"You're staring again, Hajime." Nagito said in his usual teasing voice, but his tone and smile were a bit softer this time, still, he could tell he was enjoying this. As Hajime was musing about the way he said his name, he suddenly registering what he said. With a clearly embarrassed expression, Hajime looked to the side quickly, realizing what he was doing. who knows how long he was staring at him, and he was completely clueless about it until Nagito mentioned it. Fuck, this wasn't good.

Just as Hajime was about to blurt out some excuse, There was a quick knock at the door before Mikan entered the room again. "Hajime, y-your room is finished... you can go now."

"I'll take him there, can't risk getting you sick too." Nagito said almost enthusiastically, putting Hajimes arm over his shoulder and helping him walk downstairs to the patients room. Hajime nodded and let Nagito help him, not thinking rationally enough to say anything or decline the offer. "A-ah, yes, you're right! i'm sorry!" Mikan exclaimed in a panic. "If anything happens, call me!"

As the two of them enter the room Mikan prepared for Hajime, Nagito sits him down on the bed "You seem way worse than before... You should rest. but put on the robe first" He takes the hospital gown from the stand next to the bed and goes to hand it to him "Need help putting it on?"

Without answering, Hajime somehow managed to stand up, taking off his tie he didn't realize was so suffocating until now and starts unbuttoning his shirt in front of Nagito, looking him in the eyes with that newly found infatuated gaze of his. Nagito could tell the fever was starting to really effect him now, but he couldn't tell what the side effect was, he had multiple guesses just from Hajime staring at him so hopelessly and with such fondness, but he wanted to wait and see for himself. Hajime was pretty sick, and it was very obvious, but the way his eyes looked, the half lidded, almost crazy look in his eyes, how he was taking his shirt off, it made Nagito feel a little... something.

When Hajime finally took of his clothes off (other than his boxers) and put the robe on, he sat down with it still untied, feeling clearly tired and out of it. Nagito noticed and leaden down closer to him, tying it for him. As he did so, Hajime brought his hand up and put it on his shoulder, pulling him even closer 'till their noses practically touched. Nagito looked up at him, and Hajime tilted his head to the side, his hot breath and gaze falling onto Nagitos lips, their mouths coming dangerously close. They stayed like that for a moment that felt way longer than it probably was before Hajime mumbled something quietly Nagito could barely understand.

"Don't leave..." He spoke in a breathy tone, sounding desperate. Was this the side effect of the disease? "I really need you, Nagito..." He could see the neediness in Hajimes eyes and tone, the desperate wreck the disease made of him, and he wasn't sure what to do.

Nagito leaned away, looking away with a pathetic, almost sad smile. "Hajime, you're just saying that because of the disease... We both know you don't mean it." He said, sounding like his usual, self-deprecating self. Hajimes eyes widened in a panic, trying to stop Nagito from leaving but it was too late. Before he knew it, Nagito was at the door, it being half closed already "Goodnight, Hajime." And with that, he left, leaving Hajime heartbroken and mildly panicked.
