Work Text:

Bear woke up, yawned, and stretched. Seeing that no one else in the house was up yet, he decided to wake up his two humans.
He got out of bed and headed toward their bedroom.
On the way, he nibbled on a little plastic toy lying in the hallway. Then, he continued on his way.
The door was open, meaning he was allowed to go in. Sometimes, he had to wait in front of the closed door while his humans made strange noises. But they were happy when they opened the door, so he figured he didn’t have to worry.
That morning, they were fast asleep.
Harold was curled up in John’s arms with his arms around John’s waist. John’s chin rested on Harold’s hair. They looked content.
But Bear was hungry and intended to remind them.
He put both paws on the bed on John’s side and began licking his ear.
John chuckled and grumbled, "Awake already, buddy?"
He didn't seem upset about being woken up. It would be easier to convince him to make breakfast for John.
He barked softly and rubbed his snout against John’s hair.
The next step was to wake up the second human because if Harold was sleeping in John’s arms, John wouldn’t move to wake him up.
Bear trotted around the bed, reached Harold, grabbed the corner of the comforter in his mouth, and pulled it back to uncover him.
Having seen his little antics, John chuckled and said, "You little rascal."
He kissed Harold’s forehead and laughed softly. "Hey, I think this troublemaker wants us to get up." Harold sighed and said, "Bear?"
Bear put on his most adorable expression and let out a soft "Woof."
Harold laughed softly and said, "It's crazy how much he looks like you when he wants something."
"Hey!" protested John.
Bear was also a bit offended that Harold would compare him to John. He was much more dignified than his first human.
Harold kissed John's pouting mouth, and the pout had disappeared by the time he pulled away. John was about to lean toward Harold when...
"Woof!"
Bear was hungry and wanted his breakfast.
His two humans chuckled.
John stood up and was followed by Harold, who gently rubbed Bear’s head. Bear rubbed his snout against Harold’s legs to show his contentment.
Harold mouthed, "Just like John."
When they got to the kitchen, John finished filling Bear’s bowl with kibble and set it on the floor. "Here you go, Bear," he said.
For a moment, Bear savored his kibble, paying little attention to his humans or what they were doing.
He lifted his head from his food bowl and saw them sitting across from each other at the breakfast table, chatting and holding hands.
He loved witnessing these moments between his humans because his first human had a smile he’d never seen before they moved in with his second human. He loved this second human because he was the one who brought that smile to his first human's face.
Bear noticed their voices growing softer. John leaned across the table to kiss Harold.
Bear knew when he could disturb them and when it was better to refrain.
This was one of those moments when he needed to slip away quietly.
Just as he turned the corner, he paused.
Harold and John had stood up. Apparently, his first human had urged his second human to get off his stool. John leaned against the counter with one hand, while the other supported the back of Harold’s neck, pulling him closer. Harold’s hands rested naturally on John’s chest, his fingers loosely gripping the fabric of his jacket.
They were kissing passionately, lost in their own little world.
Bear let out a soft grunt of contentment. All was well in the best of all possible worlds.
He would be able to take a nap in his basket for an hour or two.
After one last approving glance at the couple locked in an embrace, Bear trotted over to his basket. He spun around twice, fell in with a heavy, satisfied sigh, buried his snout in his paws, and closed his eyes.
He could sleep soundly. His two humans were happy.
