Work Text:
“Pure Vanilla?!” Shadow Milk practically shrieked when he saw that awful name at the top of the list, tied for first. Him? HIM? That stupid blonde sharing the spot that was rightfully his! He read over the words again and again hoping he was just imagining it. He hadn’t noticed how he was practically shaking with anger until he was interrupted.
“Aw, are you obsessing over him again?”
Shadow Milk whipped his head around to glare at Eternal Sugar.
“I am not! He’s just- just a GNAT! Why is his name next to mine? It should be me only!”
Clearly his completely oblivious friend did not understand how serious this was as she just laughed without a care. Shadow Milk stormed off fueled by frustration. He paced down the halls, not caring where he went, he just wanted to get away and take his mind off the most annoying guy at this school. Not looking at where he was going, he bumped into someone, making him topple to the floor. He cursed under his breath before tilting his head up to the person above him.
“Hey! Watch where you’re going-”
He paused mid-sentence as he saw none other than Pure Vanilla himself. Dammit. Out of all the people it just had to be him. He gave him a judging look as he scanned him up and down He had that cute boring pastel yellow cardigan over his uniform that seemed to either be his favourite or he had a billion of those in his closet since he always wore it. His blonde hair seemed to frame his face perfectly which was a beautiful contrast his brown skin. His mismatched eyes had that gentle and mesmerising look. Oh, he could just stare at him for ages-
“Shadow Milk? Hello?” Pure Vanilla spoke up, snapping him out of his trance.
The blue-haired boy blinked. Oh yeah, he was supposed to be mad at this guy. He stole his sole spot for first place which was absolutely unacceptable! Just like that his anger rose again but lacked the same heat from before. He scoffed as Pure Vanilla offered his hand. Like he’d need help from him or anyone for that matter. And he definitely did not want to touch or hold his hand. Definitely. Shadow Milk smacked his hand away before getting up himself, locking eyes with him. Pure Vanilla gave him a warm smile like they were friends or something, which they were not. Shadow Milk rolled his eyes in return. Purposefully hitting his shoulder against his as he walked off. The other boy simply sighed as his eyes lingered on the blue figure fading away.

Shadow Milk found himself in the bathroom staring at his reflection in the mirror with annoyance. He groaned and dragged his hands down his face. His mind flooded with confusing and conflicting thoughts. He was so pissed off at that damn vanilla cookie. How DARE he tie with him?!
He let out an exasperated sigh as his thoughts shifted.
Honestly, he had been slacking off and not getting full marks as usual. Class was so boring anyway, he didn’t care about any of them, well except for drama. School was too easy anyways so why bother putting in effort if he can get a decent score without trying? For him school was just listening to the teacher yap, pretending to pay attention and basically acing tests.
He wonders if Pure Vanilla actually studies for his tests. A smile reaches his face as he thinks about him hunched over his desk, engrossed in books as he tries so hard revising for one. Heh, he must’ve been sooo happy with such a monumental, unbelievable achievement! Something that’s just a given for Shadow Milk and he wasn’t even TRYING this semester. If he actually did put in some effort, no one would even get close to him, right? A laugh escaped him as he reassured himself. This was just a one-time thing, next time it’ll be him in first as always! And then Pure Vanilla will come back down to second! He giggled to himself as he envisioned it in his head.
Just then, another student walked in giving him a not-so-subtle side-eye, earning a scoff from Shadow Milk.
“The hell are you staring at?”
He narrowed his eyes as the boy mumbled a half-assed apology before heading into a stall. After looking at the mirror one last time and fixing up his hair, he finally made his exit.
