Night had fallen upon the circus, and Pomni and Ragatha were enjoying some time together in the latter’s room after a long day.
Not that the day had been bad. The adventure had actually been a more fun one for once even by Pomni's standards (which she never thought she'd say).
Still though, it was nice to just relax in the company of a loved one at the end of a long day no matter how good it may have been.
Ragatha hummed to herself as she leaned back against her pillows and worked on sewing her current project of a sweater. Pomni had picked out one of Ragatha's books and was getting lost in the world of the pages as she laid on her stomach and read.
The moment of silence turned into multiple moments of silence as Pomni read and Ragatha sewed.
Eventually though, they both finished their respective tasks.
Pomni returned the book to the bookcase before coming back over to the bed and laying next to Ragatha.
Ragatha looked down at her and smiled.
Pomni returned the smile.
“This is nice,” Ragatha commented, her voice quiet and content.
“It is,” Pomni agreed just as softly.
Ragatha’s eyes drifted over to her girlfriend, taking note of how peaceful she looked for once. And how adorable she looked as always.
If she was being honest, she really wanted to give the jester a hug right now.
But she also was all too aware of how touch-averse the younger woman was ninety-nine percent of the time, so it wasn't very likely to happen.
Still though, maybe she could ask. The worst that could happen was Pomni saying no.
“Hey, Pomni?” she asked softly.
Pomni glanced over at her. “Yeah?”
“Is it…” Ragatha began, then was quiet for a minute before starting over. “Is it okay if I hug you?”
Now it was Pomni’s turn to be quiet.
“I-it’s totally okay if not!” Ragatha added hastily, worried by the sudden silence. “You know I'll always respect your answer. You can forget I asked-”
“Yes.” Pomni looked up at her.
“Wait, huh?” Ragatha froze.
Pomni chuckled a little at the doll’s stunned expression. “Yes, Ragatha. You can hug me.”
Ragatha blinked a few times, unsure if she'd heard that right. “Are you sure?”
Pomni nodded. “Of course I'm sure. I actually don't hate being touched when it comes from you.”
Ragatha's face broke out into a smile. She reached out and hugged the smaller woman.
Pomni returned the hug, a smile coming to her own face. She relaxed in the doll's soft embrace and closed her eyes.
Ragatha glanced down, noticing. “You look happy.”
“I always am when I'm with you.” Pomni opened her eyes and smiled up at Ragatha.
Ragatha returned the smile, hugging her a bit closer. “Same here. You brighten up my days.”
“Says the living embodiment of sunshine herself,” Pomni teased, reaching up and poking Ragatha's nose.
Ragatha laughed, the touch tickling her. “Hey, give yourself some credit. You’re a ray of sunshine, too.”
“Fair, but that's mostly the case around you.” Pomni leaned against Ragatha.
“So I've noticed.” Ragatha ran a hand through Pomni’s hair.
Pomni let her eyes flutter closed again, a sense of peace and tiredness settling over her.
Before long, she had fallen into slumber.
Ragatha glanced down and noticed. She smiled to herself and kissed the top of Pomni's head. “Goodnight, Pom,” she whispered.
Almost as if Pomni had somehow heard Ragatha in her sleep, a small smile ghosted over her face for a minute before it slipped back into its previous peaceful look.
Ragatha continued to hold Pomni, succumbing to sleep herself before long.
Every moment she spent with Pomni was her favorite, but these were some of the moments that stood out the most: them relaxing together.
