A SandWing Warning

Summary:

ONESHOT - Six-Claws

Notes:

A random drabble idea about folklore.

Work Text:

Six-Claws shifted his weight, the coarse grains of the Desert Shift scratching against his pale golden scales. He recalled the local warnings, the whispered folklore that drifted through the SandWing garrisons like a ghost. For any soldier daring enough to attempt a clandestine crossing into the frigid expanse of the Ice Kingdom, the frost-breathing sentries were not the primary threat. The border patrols were mere obstacles; there was something far more insidious lurking within the undulating gold of the wastes.

It manifested as a vision of purity amidst the oppressive heat, a slender dragoness draped in a voluminous, alabaster cloak that flowed with an ethereal grace. Most unsettling was her neck sail, which billowed and danced in a nonexistent breeze, fluttering violently while the surrounding air remained stagnant and suffocating. Her eyes were wide, luminous orbs that locked onto a traveler with a piercing, unmistakable intensity. Though the heavy folds of her white garments obscured the lower half of her visage, the sheer gravity of her expression radiated through the void, conveying a hunger that transcended physical need.

To approach this apparition was to surrender one's destiny. The moment a curious or desperate dragon stepped toward the white-clad figure, the journey concluded. The horizon, once a reachable goal, became a cruel mirage. They would never touch the frozen soil of the IceWing territories, nor would they ever return to the warmth of their kinship. The entity did not merely kill; it claimed.

Six-Claws shuddered, remembering the grim conclusion of such encounters. There were no corpses left to bury, no skeletal remains for scavengers to pick clean. Those who succumbed were absorbed, their essence rendered into the very grit and dust of the wasteland. They became the sand, an eternal part of the shifting landscape, forgotten by history.

He whispered the name of the legend, a title passed down through generations of terrified scouts: The Santa Muerte.
