Three had been acting off the past few weeks. One didn't know why. It started out small— Three stayed out later than usual sometimes and would say it's just work. Or be home really late acting like nothing happened. But now, it's constant. And it was hurting One's feelings deeply. Three would always seem off around her and wouldn't even be as affectionate with her. It was worrisome.
One hadn't necessarily tried talking it out with Three out of fear. What if the reason Three kept leaving was to go cheat on her? what if she stopped loving her? what if she hates her? what if she's embarrassed to even be seen with her?..these thoughts were messing with One's mind badly and she couldn't help but begin to cry. She always had a problem with overthinks deeply. She missed her Three.
She missed her kisses.
The frequent I love you's.
The cuddles.
That special intimacy.
Her genuine smile.
Her real laugh.
Her true love.
As One cried into her knees, she heard the front door open. It was Three. But One didn't bother looking up or saying hi. It was just gonna be the usual Three acting weird and then be on her laptop for whatever reason. Never showing One what she's doing on it. Three gently knocked on the bedroom door but after about 20 seconds of sniffles and some silence, she opened it.
"One?"
Three realized her lover was sitting on the bed just crying. Hugging herself for comfort and not bothering to make eye contact. Three gasped and immediately came close to her. One was surprised to see this. Three tried to touch her shoulder but One shifted away. She was shocked at this motion.
"One?? what's wrong, honey?" Three spoke softly.
"W-Why are you pretending to care now.." One stuttered through her sobs.
"What are you talking about, baby?"
"You don't love me anymore."
Three's eyes widened.
"What?? I do love you where are you getting this fro-"
"No you don't!" One raised her voice a little.
There was a second of silence before One sniffled and continued to speak.
"You've been acting off for weeks now! I never said anything because I didn't wanna cause a fight and I was scared! you're always gone, you never be as affectionate with me and it's almost as if you're embarrassed to even be with me!"
"One..I-"
"No! instead of making me feel unloved then just..j-just don't even be with me! then you'll be happier!"
One was sobbing at this point. Three looked at her sympathetically and sighed to herself.
"Listen, you got it all wrong, okay?"
"You'll just say some stupid excuse!"
"No, no. Just let me explain."
One was reluctant, but she just went quiet. Three took this as the opportunity to explain herself.
"First of all, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry One. I didn't even realize I was acting THAT different to you..I swear I had no idea. And I'm sorry for making you feel unloved, baby."
"Th-That doesn't explain why you always leave and stay out late and say it's for work but I know it's not..."
"I promise you I don't stay late to cheat on you or anything. I'd never hurt you like that. And, you're right. It.. wasn't work, it was for something else and I shouldn't have lied."
"So after all this time while I waited and waited..you were doing something else and lied to me."
"I shouldn't have, but I really didn't have a choice."
"What do you mean!? you lied to me for no reason!"
"I do have a reason, One."
"To avoid me!" One sobbed.
"I didn't mean-"
"And you're always on that stupid laptop! you always hide your screen too!"
One was being quite difficult and yet Three knew how to handle One's emotions well. Of course she didn't wanna make things worse and get mad at her or yell at her and make her cry even more. Startling her wasn't worth it. She knew One already had issues regarding her temper. She's an easy crier and has been resorting to crying instead of getting very angry. Three loved her anyway and didn't wanna trigger it further.
"I didn't mean to avoid you on purpose.. and for the laptop part, it'd ruin the surprise way more than me just acting nervous around you."
"What?..."
Three knew it was time. She took a deep breath and grabbed One's smaller see-through hand, rubbing it with her thumb to calm her down further.
"It will all make sense if you just come with me."
"What are you trying to say.."
"Just follow me, please?"
One wiped her tears and thought about it, then nodded. Maybe there really was a good reason. She hoped there was but part of her believed it'd be something that would shatter her value inside. Three grabbed One's hand and guided her out of the house. It was awkwardly quiet besides One's sniffles. She was super confused because then they began walking to the cliffs of when they first began to talk more with eachother. The same area where they would look up at the stars and collect power all those years ago.
As they continued to walk, Three stopped for a second and looked down at One. Who was still crying a little. She gently wiped her tears and took out a blindfold from her pocket. She gave One a look asking for permission to put it on and One nodded slowly. She was so confused. What did this have to do with the argument they just had?? this doesn't even make sense anymore.
Once One had the blindfold on, Three guided her again and grabbed her hands gently. Walking further until there was a sudden stop. Before One was able to take the blindfold off, she heard her lovers soft voice.
"It's taken me awhile to prepare this because I wanted it to be all perfect for you. And now that you feel horrible about yourself, I think it's time to show you. You may take the blindfold off now."
Once she did, she looked around for a moment and gasped. There was a giant floral wreath shaped into a heart surrounded by candles and even more flowers. Like a pathway you could walk on. Giant block words reading "I love you" were there and were a blue color. She also noticed Three standing there a bit nervously holding a bouquet of roses too, as well as some gifts behind her! One's gaze softened. It was huge. She expected anything but this.
"You..did all this?"
"Well- I tried to at first but it was harder than I thought. That's why I kept leaving and coming home late. It was to work on this. I also especially needed help from some of the other numbers because I knew my clumsy ass would mess it up somehow."
Three lightly chuckled as she walked closer. She gave One the roses and the girl looked like she was about to cry again but in a good way this time.
"And..I know it took me a stupid amount of time to prepare everything and I'm sorry for not giving you as much attention, One. I love you so much and I don't ever wanna lose you." Three added.
Three gently planted a kiss on One's forehead and wiped away extra tears she might've had. One looked down and sniffled. She felt guilty because she was overthinking so bad even though in reality her lover just wanted to surprise her. She just couldn't tell her.
"I'm sorry.."
"Oh, don't apologize sweetie. I should be the one saying sorry. For everything and that whole laptop thing well..I was actually looking for something. Something that was for you."
One tilted her head in confusion. Three took a deep breath before she scooted closer and cupped One's face. One felt safe in her closure.
"One, I wanted to make you feel extra special tonight. A night you'd never forget. I prepared all this to make it all possible and perfect for you. I love you so much, more than ANYTHING in this planet. More than the stars, more than drawing, more than life itself. I'd rather be with you even until death. I first wanna show you how much I treasure you so I wanna do that by giving you gifts."
"I-I love you way more too, t-thank y-you.." One blushed so hard she could barely utter a proper sentence.
Three grabbed one of the gifts behind her and handed it to One. One smiled and let out a soft giggle.
"May you open this?" Three smiled.
One nodded. She began to open the gift bag and inside was a cute little alien plush. It was green and had red and blue heart elements on it. It came with a small heart plush that said "love is love". One squealed at this.
"Eeee!! oh my gosh, I love it, I love it, I love it!" One giggled as she hugged it tightly.
Three couldn't help but chuckle at One's cuteness. There was still more gifts to open though, there were 3 left. She picked up another one and it was a long skinny box. One happily took it and began to open it. She removed the protective wrap it had on it and saw a beautiful space necklace. It even had blue and red gemstones on it!
"Oh..my..god..oh my god! AAHHH!"
"Do you like it?"
"I LOVE IT!! IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!"
"Awe, hehe! here, I can clip it in for you."
Three gently moved One's long hair to the side and clipped the necklace on for her. It looked beautiful and was beaming from it's luxurious material. She noticed the small girl blushing relentlessly.
"Three..thank you so much for this... It's perfect."
"No problem, my love. You got 2 more to opennn!"
Three handed her another gift and it was an envelope. One ripped it open in excitement and saw 2 tickets! 2 for a wonderful vacation at the most luxurious beach resort! One gasped and looked at her lover with wide eyes. Three laughed at this.
"YOU GOT US TICKETS FOR VACATION??"
"Yep! we haven't been to one in awhile so I figured-" Three was then cut off by One jumping and hugging her.
"GAH-" She yelped.
Three caught herself and One so they both wouldn't tip over. They both laughed as the bluenette showered Three with kisses. Repeatedly saying thank you and talking about how much fun they'll have. Three blushed hard as she realized the last gift was left. It was a small little box with a red bow on it. Three gently moved One off her and held her hands gently first.
"Now, I want you to open that small little box and once you do, hand it to me."
"Okay!" One smiled.
One gently grabbed the box and was so excited. What could it be?? she shook it first and heard a little rattle. Three felt a little nervous but she needed to be ready for this. She had to be. There was no going back now and she could not fuck this up in any way.
One slowly opened it, her smile faded and her eyes widened. She felt tears prick her eyes immediately and she began to slightly shake.
Inside the box, was a ring.
An engagement ring.
"Th-Three?" One stuttered through tears.
Was this really happening? was it for real? is this a dream?..
Three softly smiled and took the box from One. One hopelessly stood up as she began to cry into her palm. Three kneeled down on one knee and held the other hand of One's. They were both shaking like crazy. Adrenaline, excitement, and sadness that was in reality just happiness through tears.
"One, when I said I'd be with you even until death. I meant it, I really did. No one else is like you. I will never find anybody like you. Nor will I be as happy as I am with you. My wish is that you're mine forever, and I am yours. I promise to do nothing but care for your feelings and health. I promise to always be by your side. So, One.."
One let out a choked sob and was about to collapse to her knees but held herself up. She was so emotional she couldn't believe this was happening. She always wanted this..she wanted to be loved this much..and she really was cared for. All by someone who truly loved her.
"Will you marry me?"
One couldn't help but eventually collapse to her knees and sob. Three smiled gently and hugged her with one arm while holding the ring in the other.
"YES! YES! I'D LOVE TO MARRY YOU!" One said it between sobs in her partners shoulder.
Something in Three lit up at this answer. As if her life was finally complete. She immediately grabbed One and desperately kissed her soft lips. She kissed back and they continued this for a whole minute. Just crying together and telling eachother how much they love one another and would be happy forever. Three eventually slid the ring on One's finger and it fit perfectly. One admired it with happy tears in her eyes. She was no longer alone.
She belonged. Better yet, she belonged to her partner in the most intimate and loving way possible.
"I love you..I love you so much."
"I love you more my sweet blue girl.."
They began to kiss again and wipe eachothers tears. They really couldn't have been any happier. Everything went swell even if it was rocky on the beginning.
What was left was praising, tears, and love.
