Satoru jumped up from his bed on hearing his door bang loudly as Suguru announced himself, "Satoru~, abandon whatever you're doing, we're having game night!!"
He didn’t need to be told twice, already on his feet as he saw Suguru literally beam from joy. "Damn you seem excited."
Suguru shoved all the blankets on from his bed onto the floor, already preparing for a long-long game night. “Oh yeah, I have had this game on my bucket list for so damn long. I have been searching everywhere, saving since forever to get my hands on this. Satoru, snacks duty. I will set this up in the meantime."
"Why? First, you drag me from my bed, then you hog my tv and now I have to go all the way to the machines to get your tasteless snacks?!?!"
Suguru gave him one side eye before announcing, "This is payback for you literally claiming my bed last week. Get the snacks or I will not let you play."
" My tv, my room how will you—"
"I will kick you out—"
"Fine. Fine. You are such a drama queen."
When he came back Suguru had already switched on the video game, his full concentration on the screen, Satoru's console waiting beside him. He wordlessly picked it and placed the snacks between them. Eagerly watching Suguru’s reaction, he saw him reach out for chips, never taking his eyes of the screen before making a face and finally checking the flavour, "Why did you get this one Satoru? It’s horrible."
He snatched them right out of his hands, munching on them before replying, "Oh I don’t know, someone said if you don’t contribute a single yen, you don’t get a say."
" You still mad about caramel popcorn? "
" I will always be mad about caramel popcorn. What, you thought I will forget my dear caramel popcorn? Have you even had—"
" Yes, and they're too sweet and awful."
" You clearly don’t know how to appreciate good taste. Who would choose salted popcorn over caramel one?"
"Oh, shut up and get on with the game."
"Whatever."
They started playing, shoving each to win. frankly it was quite a good one Suguru had got. Which reminded him of what he had wanted to ask earlier, only to forget it later.
He shoved Suguru’s shoulder to get his attention, " What are you doing Satoru I’ll lose."
"What’s a bucket list?" Suguru whirled his head around, staring at him in disbelief before speaking with utmost seriousness. " Satoru, after we're done playing, we are making you a bucket list."
" But what is it?"
Suguru smirked, before turning his attention back on the game, "Defeat me and I’ll tell you."
" Oh, so you’re so on."
~
Turns out bucket list is just what you want to do in at least once in your life. Suguru huffed in amusement watching Satoru practically jump with excitement, "This is AWESOME. Beside the stupid name THIS IS GREAT WE SHOULD BUILD ONE!"
Suguru sat down next to him, pen and paper already in hand " Already one step ahead of you. Now what do you want to start with? "
He looked at the paper thoughtfully, having no clue where to begin, "You can write anything Satoru. Where you want to go, what you want to do or something you want to get. Take some time and think it over."
.....
Suguru wondered, not for the first time, how Satoru’s childhood was so bleak that something as simple as a bucket list had been a foreign concept to him. He had bugged Suguru day in and out about what all he could write in the list, talking as if there were some rules to it, despite Suguru assuring him otherwise.
He would find Satoru lost in thought multiple times a day, wondering about what he wanted. Satoru had always been hesitant to think about himself, despite his usual behaviour.
So, it was no surprise that even after a week, he found Satoru sitting in front of him, whining about his bucket list. "I just have no idea what to write. I don’t know how it’s done."
"You don't have to finish it Satoru. You don't even take reports this seriously."
" But I want to have one. You know I asked Shoko, Haibara and Nanami, and they all have one. And here I am not knowing where to begin."
"Alright. Let's try again. I told you write something you want but can't get yet."
"That makes no sense I’ll just get it." He should've expected that.
"Ok how about somewhere you want to go?"
"Not really. I’ve been on trips as a kid but they’re no fun."
"Ok but frankly your clan is shit so do those really count?"
"But I still can't think of someplace. "
" How about something you haven’t experienced before or done before—what happened?"
Satoru looked at Suguru’s bewildered face, laughing as he launched himself on Suguru. " You’re a genius!! It’s no fun thinking about my bucket list. What’s the fun in doing it alone?!?! We should make ours!! "
Suguru looked at him with that face he always made when he was being cringe or arrogant. "What? It’s brilliant. "
" Satoru it’s meant to be your list. Make your own."
" Blegh! Boring Suguru, we are definitely making ours."
Suguru took one look at Satoru and knew it was going to be an absolute mania.
~
" Suguru, I booked the concert tickets for all 5 of us!! "
"Whose concert?"
"Inoue Waka!!"
"Hell yeah!"
~
" Satoru here, catch!"
" What's this?"
" Your football uniform."
" We're playing football?"
"Was on your bucket list, wasn't it?"
"When are we going?"
"This Sunday"
~
"I got the guitar!"
" What are you going to be popstar Satoru? "
Shoko joined in, eager to bully him, " Yeah and then he'll write sad breakup songs too."
"I'll have you guys know I would the best one!"
"Sure. Sure."
~
"We're going on a trip!!"
"Well technically it’s a mission Satoru."
" Minor details Suguru. We'll wrap it up in no time and the its going to be vacation!!"
~
"Shoko, Suguru!!"
"It’s too hot for your craziness today, Satoru."
” I got us the best resort c’mon."
" How did you even convince Yaga?"
" I have my ways."
~
“Satoru, come on it’s the New Year! We’re going to see your first fireworks!!”
“I have seen fireworks before Suguru.”
“You know I have refused to count all your clan bullshit, right? I’ll show how New Year is celebrated!”
~
Gojo Satoru looked down at the list in his hand, the one they were supposed to finish together. Maybe, in his excitement, he had written the list too long, for the time fate had allowed them to have. There was no point in doing it alone anyway.
