Chapter Text
Kevin was sitting alone in his room, rereading passages from The Book of Mormon ‐ or, The Book of Arnold, as it now was. Arnold was out with Nabalungi since they changed the rules so that mission companions were allowed to be apart. He heard his door suddenly open without a knock.
"Hello, Elder Price!" Kevin looked up from the book.
"Elder McKineley, hello."
"Was just checking if you were still here or not," he leaned against the doorframe. "I think everyone else has left."
"Oh.. Uh, well, do you want to hang out in here for a bit?"
"Sure!" That was what he was secretly hoping for when he came in in the first place. He shut the door to the room, and sat down across from Kevin on Arnold's bed, crossing his legs. "Reading The Book?"
"Yeah, Elder Cunningham sure got creative with this." he smiled up at McKineley. "But atleast we can spend time alone, now."
Connor's face turned slightly pink at that comment and he almost choked.
"Are you okay, Elder McKineley? Do you need some water?"
"No, no, it's fine I just– Choked on some saliva that's all." He was embarrisingly aware of the blush creeping on his face. At least now he could blame it on almost choking. Kevin was happy to be alone with him?
Kevin sat the book down beside him. "Anyway, back to what I was saying, it was so annoying having to always stay by your companion. Don't you agree?"
Oh. So that's what he meant. Stupid, stupid Connor. Why would Kevin want to be alone with him? Did he think that someone as perfect as Kevin Price would be some fag? The whole thought was just stupid. He tried to crawl out of his thoughts.
"Yeah, it was quite inconvenient. And I can imagine how especially annoying it would be with someone like Elder Cunningham." he let out a soft chuckle.
After a few beats of silence Kevin asked, "So, uh Elder McKineley, do you still get those Hell Dreams?"
Connor didn't expect that. "I do, in fact... Mostly for sinful homosexual thoughts.."
Kevin nodded, remembering that he had mentioned those before.
"It's hard to turn it off sometimes, y'know?" He was careful to not to share too much about it. Last time he was vulnerable about that topic with someone he considered a close friend, he ended up being bullied relentlessly for it.
"Is it always still about Steve Blade?"
"No. Well, it used to be, when I was younger. But we, uh, stopped being friends after a while." he purposefully didn't explain why, and thankfully Kevin didn't ask. "Did you have any more after that time you tried to leave here?" Connor tried to turn the spotlight away from him. Plus, it was always good to learn more about his friends.
"A few times. But not as big as the one I had that night." Connor nodded along. "... Do.. Do you ever see other Elders in your Hell Dreams?" Kevin stopped making direct eye contact.
Connor felt his face growing pink again. "I– uh..." he cleared his throat, trying to get his thoughts in order. "Sometimes." That was a lie. It was every night. Especially the Elder sitting across from him. "I doubt that in your dreams it's in the same way they're in mine.." They're probably still in their uniforms, is what he meant by that.
"Yeah.. probably..."
Before they could continue their conversation, Arnold burst through the door.
"Hey, best buddy!" He turned his head, seeing the person sitting on his bed. "And.. Elder McKineley." he said, confused.
Connor took this as an oppurtunity to leave. "Ah, sorry, Elder Cunningham, I was just leaving." he stood up and politely smiled at Arnold. Before he left the room completely he turned his head around to look at Kevin again. "Bye, Elder Price." And he shut the door behind him.
