Chapter 1: The Call

Chapter Text

Aizawa awoke to the blaring ring of his phone.

As he rolled over to pick it up, he glanced at his alarm clock and took note of the time. 1:23am.

He rubbed his eyes as he grasped the phone.

Looking at the caller ID, the man realised it was an unknown number. It was far to late at night for a scammer to be calling, so he picked up.

"Who's this?", he grumbled down the line, only to hear silence in response.

"I'm going to hang up if you won't state your name and business", Aizawa huffed, still fighting to stay awake.

Finally, a familiar voice rasped back, "Sir?"

The teacher sat up so fast his head began to spin. He scrambled to get to his feet.

"Bakugou? Are you okay kid?", he questioned, now wide awake from adrenaline. The kid would have returned home -after his kidnapping- only yesterday, and he's already calling for help?

His student replied in a voice that seemed breathless, "Sir– Sir I need you to pick me up and take me to a police station." he then tacked on, "Please."

By now, Aizawa had reached the front door of his apartment and was pulling his shoes on, using his shoulder to keep his phone to his ear. He then grabbed his car keys. "Kid I need you to tell me where you are okay?", He pleaded in as even of voice as he could manage, despite his growing anxiety.

The teenager took a moment to respond, "I'm... I think I'm, I'm near this café. It's called... Naught N' Cross?", still seemingly catching his breath, he sounded almost confused about where he was. That further concerned Shota.

The man rushed down the two flights stairs of his apartment building.

"Okay- okay kid I'll find it. I just need you to hang in there for me. You need to stay where you are okay Bakugou?", Aizawa pushed, still trying to hide his growing panic for the boys unusual behaviours.

Bakugou didn't respond, but he could tell from the sound of him catching his breath, that the kid was still on the line. It wasn't till Aizawa was in his car, turning on the engine, that the blonde said a reply, "I'm in the alleyway. The one– the one where the cafes bins are? I'll stay here."

"Alright kid," Aizawa sighed in relief, "I'm in my car now, I'm coming to find you."

The hero put the name of the cafe into his cars navigation. Thankfully the cafe didn't seem to be a part of a chain, so he didn't have to further question the boy on his whereabouts.

As he pulled out of the parking lot, Aizawa continued talking to the teen in an attempt to get a better understanding of the situation.

"Okay Bakugou, kid, I should be with you in about fifteen minutes. Is there any injuries I need to be aware of?" he coaxed.

There was a crackle of breath down the line, then a pause.

"Kid?" Aizawa pushed.

"Um, hmm," the boy breathed out, " My arm, the right one, its snapped, she..." he trailed off.

His stomach churned, "She?" questioned Aizawa.

"My right arm is broken. And, um, my head is bleeding I think." Bakugou went silent again.

As the teen spoke dread pooled into Aizawas stomach. Something was terribly wrong with the young boy. His speach paterns were off and mumbled. None of his usual stubborn bravado to take note of.

"Bakugou, I need you to keep talking to me kid. If you have a head injury, you must stay awake, okay?" Shoata urged, pressing harder on the accelerator, "Bakugou respond please."

"Kid!?"

After a heart skipping moment, the teen finally responded, " I know old man. 'M not a dumbass."

The relief Aizawa felt at the usual, if small, snark was laughable.

The man sighed in his relief and asked further questions, "Okay kid, do you know the area you're at? Have you been there before?" Keeping the kid awake was his main priority until they're together.

Another pause from the boy and then, "Yeah. Yeah I have."

"Okay," the teacher breathed, "And is it safe? Is there anyone around who you can see?"

He heard movement down the line again, then Bakugou responded, "Nah, no-one comes down here. 'Cept the cafe workers. For the– the bins. They won' be out 'ere though, it's late."

"There's a few strays sometimes..." the teen added on.

Aizawa questioned to himself how often the kid must have been in the area to think to mention strays.

"Strays? Will they be a problem?" The man worried.

Another sigh and then Bakugou responded, almost defensively, "'Course not. Oh!..." he exclaimed a gasp then cut himself off, which concerned his teacher.

"Kid? You okay? I'm just round the corner, just hang in there." The man rushed out, taking the corner hard and pressing down on the accelerator to reach the cafe front.

As he reached the café, he hauled his car next to the curb and slamed the brakes. Any other time he would have winced at the rough use of his car, but he hardly gave it a second thought before he pulled the hand break, and turned off the engine. He was out the car in seconds, and hastened over to the alley nearest the café.

"Bakugou? You there kid? Its Aizawa." he called down the alleyway. He could just make out his echo from Bakugou's end of the call, so he turned on his phone light and continued into the dark.

He found the boy hunched on the ground beside a large bin, clutching a backpack to his chest, and head lolled against the wall.

Crouching infront of him hurriedly, he hung up the call and exclaimed, "Kid!? Kid you need to wake up!" He gently reached forward and squeezed the blondes shoulder, "Bakugou!?"

The boy jolted upright and rigid with a gasp, then immediately moved his left arm to clutch his head, "Ugh... Sir?"

"Heya Kid. Someone got you real good didn't they?" Aizawa murmured. "God kid, what happened..."

The blonde let out a humourless laugh, "The hag... S–she finally had enough of me I— I think." his face suddenly tightened, "Ugh, just stop talking. Will you help me get the police station or not?"

The brief relief of the boys usual attitude was immediately gutted by the damning realisation that, his most aggressive student, is crumpled in an allyway, bleeding, and all Aizawa knows is that the boys injuries have atleast been caused by the kids own mother. It was enough to unsettle his stomach even more, which he thought was one of steel.

"Yeah, yeah I can do that kid... Can you get up on your own?" he questioned. Though he really wanted to help the boy up himself, he realised that the fact Bakugou even called him was a lot of trust for the usually stoic boy to give up.

The kid growled, which was good as it ment he was slightly more himself then he was at the start of the phone call, "Im not dieing old man, I can get up on my own!" And just to prove his stubbornness, the boy used his left arm to haul himself to his feet, using the wall and the bin for balance. He squeezed his eyes shut for a moment, probably to fight off the dizziness then opened them to level Aizawa with a glare, "See." he grumbled.

The teacher huffed at the boys audacity, "Okay then kid, if you're also good to walk my car is right outside the ally. I'll take you to the hospital."

Bakugou nearly fell over in his haist to turn on the older man, "NO! No I wanna go straight to the police. The hospital– No, they'll call– they'll call them!"

Aizawa made the mistake of placing his hand on the small of the boys back when he saw him start to shake. The blonde lurched forwards, only just saving himself from hitting the ground by catching the edge of the bin.

"Don't touch me!" Bakugou hissed, and it almost sounded like a plead.

The man raised his hands placingly, "Sorry, I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you–"

"You didn't scare me, just don't touch me old man!" The younger interrupted.

"Right, well I'm sorry for touching you then," he paused and then continued keeping his voice low and calm, "You need to go to the hospital. I promise you the police will be the first people who are contacted to get your story before your parents. It's your parents you don't wanna see... right?" It pained him the way the kids eyes darted away when he mentioned his parents. Just what did they do to him.

Katsuki grit his teeth, "Fine. Fine, so long as my old folk aren't called I'll go with you."

He gave in quicker then Aizawa expected. The head injury must be even more serious then he thought. "Thank you, follow me please." the man sighed.

Aizawa made sure to walk slower than usual to reduce the strain on the teen. He took note that the boy was also limping.

When they finally got to the car he made sure to sit Katsuki in the front so he could be within reach to help in the case of something going wrong on the way to the hospital.

The drive was quiet, he had the radio on but low to not disturb the boys head any more. Once at the hospital, nurses immediately ushered Katsuki, who snapped at their hands as they tried to assist, onto a rolling bed, and Aizawa made sure they took him to the heros ward for extra security. Then he explained to them that the boys parents are not to be contacted under any circumstance, and that police will be on there way to interview the teen.

Only after Katsuki was in a private room being tended to by nurse's and a doctor did Aizawa step out to call for the only person he trusted with this.
