Choose your side

Summary:

It wasn't fair. Why did they get to continue living normally there, and he didn't?

(Oncetober, Day 14: One impossible choice)

Notes:

Yeah, this one is short and ABSOLUTELY NOT checked for spelling mistakes, as I am TIRED!

So just enjoy I suppose.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Even though the atmospehere of the cabin in the woods should have been calm, the loud bang of the front door ruined it.

The horse outside in the stables would have startled, were it not for his training as a ranger horse. Instead, he side-eyed it, not used to his master being so angry he disregarded the need to move silently.

But here Halt was, fuming.

And it was only understandable.

How did they expect him to remain calm when his apprentice was trapped in Skandia!

He wasn't allowed to go after him and that stung even more than he thought it would... They wanted him here, in case they caught that bandit.

But...what if he just didn't? They couldn't force him to stay, he had the option to leave. Although it was through...inconvenient means...

So even though this choice hurt to make, if Duncan refused to listen, he'd just have to give him no other option.

Notes:

EDIT: I won't lie, I'm not exactly happy with how this turned out, but I suppose it's fine for now. I was exhausted and already half-asleep when I finished this, so it's no surprise. I just wanted to be done with this one.

(Might rewrite it one day)

Also holy hell there were so many nonsense sentences! I fixed some of them so this would make more sense than my tired brain thought it did. :)
