It was a cloudy day. The sun’s light was hidden, the cold tint of the shadows giving most the impression that today would be a bad day. Fortunately, for two people, it wouldn’t. It wasn’t surprising how quickly they recognized each other. They sent each other pictures of their faces, their arms, their gums, and even their hands, simply to show each other all sorts of strange things they could do with their bodies.
They played games together and ate things she usually wouldn’t be allowed to eat, all sorts of sweet things. (Courtesy of Rui, of course.)
As such, when they were finally in the comfort of his home, they embraced. They had discussed this a couple of times, both scared that the other would find it strange. After all, their relationship was strictly platonic, but they did feel safer around each other, even through the phone. So, they decided to go through with it. They’d cuddle tonight.
Mafuyu shifted repeatedly, making herself comfortable, letting out a groan once she finally settled. Rui had been expecting that. After all, she did warn him about this. He didn’t mind, not really. It was charming.
“Comfortable?” “Mhm.” They exchanged quietly. Rui stretched, smiling to himself as Mafuyu held him close.
Unfortunately, Rui had a tendency to be quite agitated at night. He moved his feet repeatedly, hummed tunes to himself, chewed on his nails. Not that it bothered Mafuyu, but he wouldn’t sleep at this rate.
“Aren’t you already sleep deprived enough?” She inquired, looking at him with tired eyes.
“Ah, don’t worry about it. I’ll be okay.” “No. You’re sleeping. I didn’t come here just for you to stay awake all night.” “But-“ “Shut up.”
Rui made the Pitiful Sad Face. Mafuyu did not feel any pity, turning on her side to hold him closer. “You wound me.” He said theatrically. “Cry about it.” She replied dryly.
Mafuyu played with his hair, which he clearly didn’t care for often, and made sure to cease any movement. When Rui finally began to show signs of sleepiness, she sighed, staying close but letting go of his hair. Now she just had to make sure that he didn’t get bored of trying to sleep. Luckily for her, he didn’t. He hadn’t given himself the opportunity to have a proper night’s rest in at least a few months. Eventually, she dozed off herself in the safety of her friend’s presence.
Rui woke up at 6AM sharp. He didn’t usually wake up this early, but then again, he didn’t usually sleep as early as he did either. His eyes darted around his own room, taking in his surroundings. Mafuyu had kicked two of his plushies to the ground and somehow managed to get the blanket on the floor as well, but that was okay. He did that every night.
A little mess is worth it for a friend, and Rui found that it was especially worth it when she was one of the only people to take him seriously.
