Opus 94 Fic-a-day, No 14: Paisley

Summary:

Bucky has finally be legally cleared to leave the tower for things other than court or therapy, and his first port of call is going on a date with Clint.

Work Text:

Bucky had not been anxiously hanging around his door waiting for Clint to show up. The smirk dancing on Clint’s lips when he opened the second knuckles touched it suggested maybe Clint didn’t agree with Bucky’s internal assessment. So he was eager, sue him.

He couldn’t resist the matching grin that overtook his face as he saw Clint had dressed up. He hadn’t really expected him to, and it was touching to think that maybe Clint was as excited for this as he was. Still, he needed to play it a little cooler.

“Didn’t take you for a paisley kinda guy,” Bucky commented while he gave Clint an overt once over.

“A what?”

“You know, the shirt.”

“You didn’t take me for the kind of guy to wear a shirt?” Clint asked, still clearly confused. He pinched the fabric and pulled it a little away from his chest to look down at it. “Is this a round about way of asking me to take it off? Might have to skip dinner then. Pretty sure there’s a dress code.”

“We ain’t skipping our first date,” Bucky stated firmly. “I’ve been looking forward to this for months.”

Clint laughed. “This isn’t our first date. That woulda been beer and nachos on the roof. Or before that even, maybe.”

“First date out,” Bucky corrected. “First date with me as a free man.”

Clint crowded in and grabbed Bucky by the waist, pulling him in for a kiss. “And that is definitely worth celebrating. What do you think I got all dressed up for?”

“Figured Natasha put you up to it.”

“Hey now! It was my idea, she just helped pick the outfit.”

“That probably for the best. I’ve seen the inside of your closet.”

“What’s it matter? You like me better naked anyway.”

Bucky back leaned in to nip his lower lip before stepping away and starting down the hallway. Clint had a habit of distracting him and he didn’t want to miss their reservation. “I dunno. Maybe. You’ll have to show me again later tonight and I can double check if you still look good or not.”

“Your memory starting to go in your old age already? We better get a move on if we’re gonna make it for the early bird special and back home for jeopardy or whatever you old fogies watch and still get you to bed in time.”

“I would hate for you to’ve got all dolled up for nothing, but that’s an awful lotta hot air for someone who can’t stay awake the whole length of a flick. Who’s putting who to bed half the time?”

The bickered the whole way out to dinner.
