Mars was hard for both Luna and the Doctor. Getting locked out of the Doctor's mind was a strange experience for Luna, she hoped that she could've steered him on to the right path, but she was unable to do so.
The Doctor, a man who was so old and so young at the same time, once so bright and full of life, reduced to a man who angrily screamed about how the laws of time were his and they would obey him, how he was the victor of some long forgotten war, who just watched as two of the 'unimportant' people that just so happened to get in the way walked off, terrified, and the true 'important' person, Adelaide Brooke, killed herself upon returning to Earth.
He was quiet upon coming back to the TARDIS. Luna was sitting in the console room, barely looking at him and focusing on a speck on the console floor. She remembered that this was the Doctor's 'grunge phase', so there were a lot of specks on the console floor to look at when she didn't want to look the Doctor in the eyes.
She could practically trace constellations in them - right now, she was trying to make Lupus, because it seemed like Rose left behind traces of 'Bad Wolf' in the smallest of places. Okay, tracing constellations that reminded her of companions that had gone wasn't a good distraction.
A few seconds of silence. Then, the Doctor spoke up, voice cold.
"Well?" He asked, "aren't you going to say something? Maybe an 'I told you so'?"
Luna looked up.
"For what?" Luna asked, "you're the one who locked me out of your head—"
"Now that I think of it, yeah," the Doctor interrupted, "you didn't even try to stop me!"
"'Cause I couldn't!" Luna gasped, standing up, "what did you want me to do - somehow pull you away from the controls? Drag you back to the TARDIS? I could barely break through to you mentally, you really think I could break through to you in person?"
"Fat lot of good you were," the Doctor glared, "you claim to know everything, yet you go quiet when it really matters!"
"Oh, oh, oh, you really want me to break the laws of time?" Luna exclaimed, storming towards the Doctor.
"If it'll stop me, sure!"
"Gods, Donna should've never brought that up—"
"Don't mention her name!"
"Oh, so now you wanna forget her? After you made her forget you?"
"She would've died!"
"You could've warned her!"
"I tried my best, okay?!"
"Oh, yeah, sure, you 'tried your best', just like how you tried your best with Martha," Luna continued, venom dripping from her tongue, "with Rose! Speaking of which - maybe Rose would know what we should do, 'cause she's so smart and talented and beautiful and wonderful and Gods, why didn't you tell her 'I love you'?"
"Oh, don't start—"
"What about Sarah Jane? She's probably feeling so good after you left her behind in Aberdeen! Why don't you use your new Time Lord Victorious powers to go back and stop yourself from leaving her?"
"Because—"
"Because Sarah Jane's not actually important, she won't do anything with history like how Adelaide Brooke will, right?" Luna asked, "is that what you're going to say? 'Cause you never really care about us unless any of us are important,"
"Where'd you get that idea from?"
"The fact that you asked to be thanked!" She continued, "for what? Destroying the laws of time, breaking everything around you, traumatising those people—"
"I don't want to die!" The Doctor roared.
"I don't want you to die," Luna screamed, tears welling up in her eyes, "but I can't do anything about that, now, can I? Tough shit!"
Silence overtook the TARDIS console room. The TARDIS itself hummed a soothing melody, but neither the Doctor or Luna were in the right headspace to hear it. Luna stormed off.
"If you need me, I'm gonna be in my room,"
