Work Text:

Ok, so.
I know Sky is really airheaded. This is nothing new.
BUT WHO THE FUCK KEEPS A DRAGON EGG THAT IS LESS THAN 2 SOLS FROM HATCHING IN THE PANTRY?!?

I take a closer look at the remains of food strewn about the kitchen. A bag of flour is empty across the tiles, tiny claw marks puncturing the empty bag.

I grab a dustpan from the corner and do my best to sweep it to the side at least, but a fierce pang in my bad arm stops me halfway through. I kneel down with a wince, wings grazing the ground.

At that moment, while cradling my arm and moping, I hear a bang just outside and the sound of glass shattering. Chaos ensues as I jump up from my position and promptly slip on food bits. I yelp, then scramble up to go see what happened.

I arrive to find Osrelios standing next to a shattered window.

“What did you do?” I ask, glancing at him and the window and narrowing my eyes.

“I swear it wasn’t me this time! Something literally flew into the glass and broke it!”

“A likely story,” I say, adjusting my glasses. “I think that the thing that flew through the glass was your fist.”

A thought then occurs to me.

“…do you remember what the thing looked like, Osrelios?”

“Well, it really looked like an elongated purple blur with what might’ve been wings? I don’t know, I was more concerned about the glass shards.”

Oh stars no why do I have to deal with this

Ok don’t panic

“Do you happen to know what direction it went?” I ask, trying to keep my voice calm.

“Uh, I think it went towards the gardens?”

I promptly jump through the place the window used to be and sprint for the gardens, leaving an incredibly confused Osrelios in my wake.

Apparently, convincing a baby dragon to come out of a rosebush is not a simple task.

“…they broke a fucking window and hid in a rosebush which I then had to extract them from. Their name is Toast, by the way.”

Sky just stands there for a second and looks at me. Then, he slowly turns to the purple menace in my palm.

“Ok… ok. Why are they named Toast?”

“Oh, they’re gonna toast my food once their fire develops. Right Toast?” I say, bringing them up and smiling at them.

Sky looks at me, an incredulous expression spreading across his stupid lips. Very stupid lips. Not soft and pretty looking. Totally.

I can’t help but smile at him.

“This little creature of yours has imprinted on me, but there is nothing, in existence or otherwise, that will convince me to take care of them completely for you.”

Sky raises his eyebrows. I narrow mine at him in return.

“Eirian, we both know full well you’re going to end up completely obsessed with them. You literally named them, so there’s no going back.”

“You don’t know me.”

I spin around, plop Toast on Sky’s bed, and unfortunately trip over air and fall face first onto the rug, completely ruining my attempt at a dramatic exit.

Sky stifles a laugh and reaches down to help me up. I look at him indignantly. He gives me a look. I begrudgingly take his hand. A triumphant smirk spreads over his face, and I frantically try to hide the blush painted across mine.

What the fuck have I gotten myself into?
