Work Text:

“Are any of you bringing dates to Bang PD’s birthday dinner?” Hoseok asks.

“I don’t think so, unless Jin wants to go with me like he did last year.” Namjoon shrugs. “I don’t mind going alone.”

Jimin sighs. “When are you guys going to make it official? You’re practically married.”

“You know we can’t. It wouldn’t be good for us as a group. Who knows how the fans would react?” He plops down on the couch, long legs splayed out in front of him. “Maybe eventually, just not now.”

“What’s not now?” Jin questions as he walks into the living room of their dorm. He sits down next to Namjoon.

Namjoon smiles at him as he places his hand on the older man’s knee. “Us coming out.”

“Oh, that. I’m ok with what we’re doing now.” Jin smiles back at him. “Besides, it’s nice to not get awkward questions prying into out private time.”

Jungkook groans from his place on the floor. “Yeah, I’d rather not hear anything more about your private time than we already hear at night.”

Jimin laughs and teases, “Oh, Jungkookie, you’ll see it’s not so gross once you actually date someone. Or not, if you just aren't into that.”

“Are you implying I’ve never dated anyone before?”

“That’s exactly what I’m implying.”

The youngest boy sits up. “I’ll have you know that I have dated before. I’m dating someone right now!”

The other boys all laugh. Jungkook glares at them all.

“I really am dating someone. I’ll bring them to the birthday dinner to show you.”

“And what's their name?” Jimin asks.

“I’m not telling. You'll know at the dinner. Why can’t you just believe me?” Jungkook tries to think quickly.

Hoseok snickers. “Are you sure their name isn't your right hand?”

“No! It’s Sadi.”

“Oh,” Jin says.

Jimin nods. “That makes sense.”

“Glad you finally got the courage to ask them out.” Namjoon comments.

“Ugh,” Hoseok groans. “You asked them out first? I had money on Sadi.”

Jungkook stares. “What?”

“Sadi, I need a favor.” Jungkook paces behind them as they sit at their desk doing work.

“What do you want?” Sadi asks, wearily. The last time Jungkook asked them for a favor-

He stops moving. “I need you to pretend to date me.”

-ended up just like this.

“We already did that and your parents didn’t believe us. Who are you trying to fool? A stranger? Maybe they would believe it,” they comment.

“The guys were teasing me about not dating anyone and I said I am to get them to stop, but now they want me to bring you to Bang PD’s birthday dinner.” He starts pacing again, but Sadi reaches out and grabs his arm.

“Stop pacing. That isn't going to solve anything.” They pause. “Wait, why me specifically?”

Jungkook sheepishly scratches the back of his head. “I may have said I was dating you. You're the first person who popped into my head. For no reason, of course! It’s not like I like you like that!”

Sadi raises an eyebrow. “I wasn't even thinking that.”

Not that I would object.

“Oh.”

They sit in semi-awkward silence until Sadi speaks up.

“So when is this dinner?”

“Tonight.”

“And you're telling me this now?” Sadi stands, rushing out of the room.

“Sadi! Wait! It’s not. That big of a deal,” Jungkook says.

“I don’t know what I’m going to wear and it’s in how many hours?” They reach their bedroom and starts searching through their closet, leaving Jungkook at the doorway.

“Five. Don’t worry. It’s just casual. Like jeans kind of casual. Plus, you look great in everything you wear so does it matter?” Jungkook coughs awkwardly.

Sadi pauses ruffling through their clothes to look over at him. “Are you ok? Your face is kind of red. You're not getting sick, are you?”

Jungkook shakes his head. “Ah, no. You just keep this place super hot.”

“No I do not. It’s cold in here.” They walk over and place their hand on his forehead. “You don’t feel that hot. You're just weirdly red.”

He pulls away from them. “I’m going to go back home and figure out the plan. I’ll pick you up at six, ok?”

“You could just stay and figure it out here. You still have clothes here somewhere from that one time you stopped to change after that award show. They should be casual.”

“I, uh, actually just got a new shirt I wanted to wear specifically for tonight. It’s at home so I have to go back anyway.” He backs away and starts to head to the front door. “I’ll see you later.”

He leaves and they’re left in silence. Why was he acting so weird?

“Happy birthday!” Sadi says.

“Thank you! I’m so glad you could make it!” Bang PD ruffles their hair. “I haven't seen you in such a long time.”

Sadi laughs. “It’s only been like two weeks.”

He always treats them like one of the boys and it makes them feel special. It’s nice to have someone like that.

“A busy two weeks for you and a certain someone, I hear.” He winks and smiles.

Sadi flushes. They were dreading this conversation. They hate lying. Especially to him.

“Ah, yeah. It’s been different.”

“I’m sad it was him though. We had all bet on you to ask him out first. Well all but Taehyung. You know how optimistic he is.”

“You all had bets on us? Why?”

“You've been in love with each other forever. It was only a matter of time before one of you went for it.”

“How long has it been for him?” Does Jungkook actually like me? That’s impossible.

“A year and a half? Maybe? He almost had a melt down when he realized it. You're the first person he’s liked. I remember him coming to me for advice on what to do. ‘They can’t possibly like me back. I’m me.’ And look at you two now.” Bang PD smiles fondly. “You two have grown so much.”

Jungkook laughs loudly from across the room. He’s standing and joking around with the rest of the guys. How could this beautiful boy like me?

“You can really tell how someone feels about a person by the way they look at them when they think the other isn't looking,” Bang PD comments. “I have a feeling you'd do anything in the world for that boy and he'd do the same for you.”

Sadi nods. “I really would.”

“Bang PD! When are we eating?” Taehyung asks loudly.

The older man laughs and says to Sadi, “I think that's our cue to feed these monsters.”

It’s when they start playing games after dinner that everything comes crashing down for Jungkook. He should've known that he and Sadi couldn't pull it off around the people closest to them.

“We should play truth or dare!” Taehyung suggests.

“What are we? 13?” Yoongi scoffs.

“Bang PD is getting old-” Taehyung starts.

“I’m offended,” Bang PD comments.

“-and we have to keep him youthful so he’s around for a long time. Let’s vote. Whoever wants to play, raise your hand.”

Everyone but Yoongi raises their hand.

He groans. “You're all such little shits.”

“Who wants to start?” Namjoon asks.

They all sit in silence staring around the circle on the floor until Hoseok speaks up.

“I guess I’ll go.”

“Truth or dare?” Namjoon questions.

“Truth.”

“Who was your first kiss?”

“Aw, that’s lame. It was an older girl when I was 15.” Hoseok sighs. “I wanted a good one to answer. Jungkook, you're next. Truth or dare?”

“Truth.”

“When did you realize you like Sadi?”

“A few months ago.” He glances briefly at Sadi to see their reaction, but their face is blank.

“That’s a lie. You told me almost two years ago,” Bang PD accuses. “You have to do another one because you lied. Truth or dare?”

“Fine. Dare.”

“Kiss Sadi,” Yoongi challenges.

Jungkook’s eyes go wide. “Sure. I can do that. Because we’re dating. Right, Sadi?”

Sadi nods. “Yeah. It’s cool.”

He quickly leans over and pecks their lips. They barely even touched before he was backing away.

“There. Done.” Jungkook says.

Taehyung laughs. “Is that any way to kiss your partner, Jungkookie?”

“I’m not huge on PDA, ok?” Jungkook’s face is so red, Sadi is slightly worried.

“Yeah, right. I bet that was your guys’ first kiss,” Jimin claims. “Want me to show you what a real kiss is like, Sadi?”

They hesitate. Would that trick Jungkook into confessing?

“No!” Jungkook yells. “Why would you kiss my partner?”

“Oh, please, you two aren't even dating. We could all tell from the first second you showed up.” Jimin smiles. “Why are you so mad when you aren't even dating?”

“You don’t like them like that! It’d be weird.” He’s starting to get frustrated.

“You didn’t deny you're mad.” Jimin smirks. “Why can’t you just say it?”

“Fine! I am mad. I don’t want you to kiss them.”

“Why not? If they want to, what's the problem?”

“Because I like them. You wouldn't want anybody to kiss the person you like either.”

“You actually like me? Outside of this pretend dating thing?” Sadi asks.

Jungkook freezes. “You weren't supposed to hear that.”

“But I did. So please answer me.”

“Yeah,” Jungkook mumbles.

“Why didn’t you tell me or ask me out?”

“Because I didn’t want to ruin our friendship. Even if I do want to date you, you're too important to me to risk losing you.”

“That’s a risk we have to take if we both like each other.”

“Wait, you like me?”

“Since the day I met you.”

“Do you want to go out with me? I’d really like to be your boyfriend.”

“I’d like that too.”
