Work Text:
Jeon Jungkook had always thought the biggest surprise of his life would be the day he presented himself as an omega. His family was composed mainly of alphas and he grew up with the strong personality of a leader, so the least that was expected of him was to be a beta. Therefore, it was a great surprise when Jungkook had his first heat. In fact, his family - and the whole school - was surprised. His mother - a beta - said her tears were from happiness, but she was clearly disappointed of having an omega as a son. His brother and father - alphas - spent the rest of the week not speaking to him and, when they finally did, they gave him a speech filled with stereotypes of how to behave as an omega. Sure, it could've been worse. But Jungkook still left home right after he graduated high school and found a job working at a bookshop. Fortunately, he had earned a good spot at a dance company and some of his friends even said he'd be an idol in a couple of years.
A year after, Jungkook had his second big surprise when an alpha with deep dimples and a heartwarming smile entered the bookshop. Since presenting himself as an omega, Jungkook had his share of experiences with betas and alphas, but his desire for alphas only reminded him he wasn't what his family wanted him to be. He clenched his fists when felt the scent of the alpha and he soon noticed that he caught the other's attention, because when he got closer to offer help the man let all the books he had with him fall on the floor, his cheeks blushing cutely. But alphas shouldn't be shy, or at least Jungkook thoug ht. But that was exactly the big surprise: Kim Namjoon was an alpha like no other, a high school teacher and a underground rapper in his spare time. He was far from all the stereotypes of alphas his family had taught him: he was caring and loved affection. His visits to the bookshop became frequent and a couple of months and cups of coffee later - as well as an encounter during one of Jungkook's heat - they became a couple.
And that led Jungkook to his third big surprise, three years later, lying on the bathroom floor of the apartment he shared with his boyfriend, Namjoon. He had his back laid against the bathtub and one of his hands held a pregnancy test. It was the third test of the day, the same letters that read "Pregnant". After disposing the stick and taking out the bathroom trash, he called his best friend, who was a dancer at the same company he was now a part of.
"What's the emergency?" Jimin asked, quickly making himself comfortable on the couch.
Jungkook was pacing in the living room, trying to collect this thoughts in words - just like he was training to tell Namjoon.
"Jimin hyung, you're an omega, right?"
"Obviously" Jimin frowned. "You know that."
"And you and Yoongi hyung use contraceptives, right?"
"Yes... Jungkookie, what's your point?"
"And do you believe they always work?" Jungkook ran a hand through his hair.
"98% of the times, yes. But they might not work if you messed up in taking them or if you're taking some sort of medications." Jimin looked at him, his puzzled look giving place to a growing worry. "Jungkook..."
Jungkook stopped pacing, a hand covering his mouth and his eyes wide. Apparently, he should've paid more attention in all the speeches his family gave him, because the part of "contraceptives might not work if you're taking some sort of medication" had completely slipped his mind.
"Jimin, hyung, p-please" his voice broke, his eyes closing to shut out the tears. "Hyung, please, I didn't know, I didn't know. Namjoon... Namjoon hyung." Jungkook fell on his knees, the efforts against the tears long forgotten. Immediately, Jimin was by his side holding him. How could he've been so stupid? He put his whole carreer in danger as well as his relationship with the best person he knew. Namjoon was too good for him, he knew that. And he also knew the alpha well enough to know that, no matter what was Jungkook's choice, he'd stay by his side and he was afraid of making the man he loved having to make so many sacrifices for him.
"Jungkook, you know... you have other options." Jimin whispered in his hair.
He knew. In his circle of omega friends, they were all big supporters of omega rights, such as the choice to abort. Obviously, when he was faced with this situation, it wasn't so easy.
"I don't know what to do, hyung..." Jungkook managed to say between his sobs. He felt Jimin's hands rubbing his back and finally he let exhaustion take the best of him.
In that same afternoon, Jungkook decided to take a laboratory test. He stood nervously in the small waiting room with Jimin, who was trying to calm him down, assuring him that pharmacy tests weren't always reliable. A female voice called out for him and, with a deep breath, Jungkook walked to get the envelope that held his entire future in it. Shaking, he sat beside Jimin again. There were so many things going through his head. What would he do? What would he tell his company? How would he tell Namjoon? Finally, he opened the envelope and read the piece of paper in it, his throat going dry.
"Jimin hyung?"
"Yes, Jungkookie?"
"Are laboratory tests sometimes wrong too?"
"Oh."
The omega thought a lot about how to tell the news to his alpha, but leaving baby shoes on the nightstand or hiding the test under the bed sheets didn't seem like a good way of telling about an unwanted pregnancy. Jungkook was 19 when he met Namjoon and, even in three years of relationship, they had never talked about having kids, not even when they decided to move in together. Namjoon had a job he loved, teaching literature to high school students and sometimes even writing songs for Jungkook, and Jungkook had a full time job being an idol. Tour, recordings and promotions were things that the couple had to get used to. A baby definitely didn't fit in the scenario.
It was close to six, so Jungkook shouldn't be startled by Namjoon entering the apartment, but he still turned to the front door with wide eyes.
"Kookie?" Namjoon smiled, his eyes disappearing and the dimples Jungkook loved so dearly showing up. The elder let his bag on the table and walked towards Jungkook, sitting on the couch.
"I'm pregnant."
Jungkook was never good with words while Namjoon was too good with them. Unsurprisingly, he picked the worst moment to show what a train wreck he was. For the first time since Jungkook had met him, Namjoon was speechless. He stopped in his way towards the couch, with his mouth hanging in an 'O'. He moved when Jungkook was shaking too hard to hide and just like that the alpha was by his side, hugging him.
"It's okay, baby. Everything's gonna be alright. I'm here with you, baby."
He knew the alpha would say exactly that, but he still let out a sigh of relief. Almost an hour later, he finally voice out the decision he didn't even realized he had made already.
"I want to keep the baby."
